Search results doesn't show Word document Title Properties

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 11, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

The search result doesn't show the Word document's Title properties.

For example a Office 2007 Word document has Title properties as "Dell, Template (MN 520287) Test Method", the first word in the document is "Opearation".

The Search result shows the search result with the first word of the document as the search result as

How can I prioritise search results to show where document metadata has a hit first and then where t

When my users run a search against a site with a bunch of document libraries they will often search for terms that are in the title of the doc, if they do know the title they will put that in. What I would like to do is have the results ordered such that if any hits are on the document metadata (eg Title) then they are presented first and any results that are from hits on the content of the documents are presented later.

So, if they get the title spot on in their search query that document will appear first .... if they don't get it right then the likelyhood is that the title is something like what they entered so similar titled docs are presented first and then those with matching content ....

How can I achieve this?

Why does the Search Results show the wrong Title?

All my documents have the Title property set, yet when I perform a search, the result result is displaying the first word it finds in the documnet as the Title? Search Results Customization - Display Document LibraryTitle Instead of Document Metadata Title

I am running a pretty basic SharePoint 2010 setup that is being used as an intranet for my organization.  This also includes service up internal documents to our users.  Currently, our documents are displayed on various pages using the CQWP and are organized by title as dictated by the document library title.  As part of the search capabilities of this site, I have implemented a basic search page to return results on the documents from this list.  The problem I am running into is that the search results are displaying results based on the metadata title of the actual document instead of the assigned document library title. My questions are this: How do I change the search results so they display based on the document library title? How do I view what columns are currently being crawled by the search capabilities? Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide!

Have search results display the filename of a word doc, instead of the Title Metadata

Im currently implementing a campus wide search service, based on MOSS 2007. It obviously indexes a lot of Word documents.

If the word document has no value in its 'Title' metadata (properties of the document) then the filename is displayed in the search results page, and if a title value is present then this is shown instead. However, whoever created our word templates put the value SU_REPORT into the title value of the template and so ALL of our documents now have this in (yes stupid i know!) Nobody every changes these, so we have a lot of docs that when displayed in the search results show a meaningless name of SU_REPORT

So my question is, can  i modify the behaviour of search so that if the title is blank OR the title = "SU_report" then the filename is displayed instead?

I'm guessing that this is done either via the XSLT to control the display in the Core Results WebPart, or maybe it can be done at the metadata level by disconnecting the title property (i'd rather not do this because it is very occasionally useful!)

Any advice greatfully receieved

Advanced Basics: Setting Word Document Properties the Office 2007 Way

The last time I wrote this column (March 2006), I shared an application that allows you to update all the Microsoft® Word documents in a folder and its subfolders. Each time the application finds a document in the specified path, it updates the document properties to match those you specified in the application.

Advanced Basics: Set Word Document Properties Programmatically

At the beginning of another lovely day of writing courseware in mad pursuit of unrealistic deadlines, I received a frantic call from a business partner. He was at the end of a long consulting project and had several hundred Microsoft® Word documents, all of which required their document properties to be set identically, except the Title property of the document, which was to be based on the document file name, minus the .

Full text search in a Word document

I´m currently programming a web search application in ASP.Net and having problem with full text searching. My requirements are:

1. Save a byte array from SQL server to word document as a temp file in a server side?

2. How to highlight the string I am currently searching in the Word document and return to the user the sentence with the highlighted string (like on Bing or any other search engines)? Is it possible to fullfill this requirement with full-text search integrated in SQL Server 2008?

Thanks in advance,

Search does not find text in Word document stored in document library on a Report Center site within

We have a document library on a site created off of the Report Center site template. We uploaded a Word 2007 document with the word zebra in the text. Using the search bar at the top of the page we selected This list: Our document library and searched for zebra. We received no results.

We tested the same thing on another site (site template Team site) within the same site collection and search worked fine.

Does the Report Center search function differently then the search functionality on the Team site?

Word 2010 Crashes When Editing Server or Document Properties

I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if this is a bug. We are using Metadata in our SharePoint 2010 implementation and I have linked this to the various document templates. If the template is a docx or dotx extension then, in a document library, going New Document and editing the Server or Document Properties causes Word to crash. Document templates based on .doc extensions work fine. Once the document has been created you can edit the properties but obviously this isn’t the best process. Does anyone have any advice on this? Thanks Neil

Search results are not displaying the results related to a particular document library

While using the search box in a site, the search results are not displaying the results related to a particular document library.

What is the reason for this? How can this be solved?

filter search results to specific document library

Hi all.  I have a sharepoint 2007 subsite, which is a small part of a large corporate sharepoint 2007 system.  I only have admin rights on my chunk.

I would like to limit a search to a specific document library within my subsite, and further would like the search results to return additional non-standard meta-data from this library.

Is this something that I can do without creating a new search scope?

documents didn't show up in search results

Hi all,

i'm facing the following problem with a moss 2007 server:

lets say i have a document library with about 20 xlsx and xls files. All are named similiar like "YZ travelexpensereport ...".

When i search for "the exact phrase" "YZ travelexpensereport" the search results only give me one result instead of all the other files.

When i use the "all of these words"-search i still find the same file -beside some other files. But still the other 19 documents didn't show off in the search results. It's always the same file that show off.

I checked the crawl logs and all of the 20 files were crawled successfully.

Now to the funny part: when i search any of the other 19 documents with the full filename i can find it - which seems logical since it is crawled successfully.

Any ideas are appreciated !

Advanced Search doesn't page results 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Next >

The Advanced Search does return results for my searches, it is located at http://mosslab01/SearchCenter/Pages/Advanced.aspx, when I click search I am taken to the results page: http://mosslab01/_layouts/osssearchresults.aspx

it says Results 1-10 of about 443,904. Your search took 1.05 seconds.

However, I don't see any parameters in the URL regarding my search keywords, and the paging just appends '?start1=11', '?start1=21', '?start1=31', '?start1=41', when I click 2, 3, 4, 5, respectively, hence the newly formed URL looks like this http://mosslab01/_layouts/osssearchresults.aspx?start1=11 and the page displayed is blank in the search results area.

Previously the results page was set to http://mosslab01/SearchCenter/Pages/results.aspx but whenever a search using "This Site: Site01" was performed no result was returned

Default Column Values in a Document Library (SP2010) do not show up in word 2010 until you save and

when you create a document in a SP 2010 document library (of a particular content type, by clicking new, letter (content type name) in sharepoint for example) which has default values set on in in the library (set by using library settings -> change default column values), the default values do not show up until you create the document , save it and reopen it again.  Is this a bug or by design.  If it is by design, it is horrible since if some of the column default values are mandatory in the content type then you actually have to type them in before you could possibly save the file which defeats the whole point of having default column values.  Also it is tremendously clunky for a user to have to create file, save it , close it, and reopen it just to view the default metadata in the document information panel that is supposed to be there.

Anyone have any thoughts/solutions to this problem?
