Debugging - DataSet Visualizer: Won't display the last row added? Always one row "short"?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 11, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Has anyone else run into this issue?

I am debugging an app that was written by a consultant years ago, it is VB.NET and they create a datatable to collect errors.

dtErrors = New DataTable("Errors")

So a new error will be added:

dtErrors.DefaultView.AddNew.Item("ErrorLine") = "The account name (" & sAccountName & _
                        ") is invalid. Some generic AccountName error."

Then I will look at the DataSet Visualizer while stepping the code and I won't see the new line, just the column name.

After adding a second error, only the first error will appear.

Is this a common / expected behavior?

How to display the contents of a table while debugging a stored procedure

I see that after a call to my stored procedure I am jumping into a trigger while trying to insert rows. How do I see what SELECT * FROM INSERTED is or what is in other tables while I am debugging my stored procedure. (I know I can put SELECT * FROM INSERTED into my trigger, etc. but I am looking to be able to debug my stored procedure without changing anything except things in my debug environment.

Visualizer correct, wrong values in watch. \ delimiter added (NVARCHAR datatype)

I dont get it, a nvarchar[255] variable exists in our sql server 9.0.3080.

Adder per additional duct over 3 ducts in slick bore
Aerial 0-1000'
Aerial 1001'-10,000'
Air Compressor w/tools
Air Driven Pump
Arrow Board
As-Built Documentation
Bore Depth over 30' adder
Bore HDPE Casing Adder ( up to 4")
Bore HDPE Casing Adder (> than 12")
Bore HDPE Casing Adder (>4", up to 8")
Bore HDPE Casing Adder (>8", up to 12")

  1. I query the entire table, and store to DataSet.
  2. create string[] of tablesize, loop table rows and store value
  3. watch on the dr["column"] is always showing  "Bore HDPE Casing Adder ( up to 4\")"
  4. if you click text visualizer the correct value (same as sample data) shows!
  5. my strings are always saved with the wrong value (including the \)

TabPages do not display when added to the tabControl

I have a problem with a tabControl. I have a form that consists of MainForm with a tabControl on it. There is a TabPage called Main Menu that displays a UserControl called MainMenu. On MainMenu there are several buttons that should either add a new TabPage to the tabControl on MainForm or display the TabPage if it already exists.

The tabControl on MainForm has its modifier set to public and MainForm is declared on MainMenu using:

MainForm MainForm = new MainForm();

I have the following code that works fine if the button and code are placed directly onto the TapPage, Main Menu.

public void TabButtons(object sender, EventArgs e)

   string TabName;

   bool Exists;

   Exists = false;

   Button clickedButton = (Button)sender; //Get the name of the button that was clicked

   TabName = clickedButton.Text; //Save the button text to use later

   TabControl.TabPageCollection TabCollection = MainForm.tabControl.TabPages

Debugging - Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

All of the sudden when I try to run an asp.net web app I've been working with, I get an "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error when it tries to load the start page. I've tried changing the start page, changing the Development Server port, and setting a break point in page load (which never gets hit). Does anyone know what's causing this?

Refresh of a Report Builder Dataset does NOT show newly added field

I'm working with Report Builder 2.0 (we don't plan on getting SQL 2008 R2 - so NO 3.0 for us!) and have found that if I have an existing report using an existing stored procedure (it has 4 existing parameters) and I add a new field to the stored procedure it will not refresh the data set.  I have gone to the DataSet properties and executed the query(SPROC) where it does show the new field (so I know the sproc will execute), but when I click OK and hit Refresh Fields it stops responding.  I also tried the same steps without the Refresh Fields and still stops responding.  I also tried to add the field name and it errored out as invalid.

The only work around I've found is to

GridView inline Master/Detail record display

This code drop is part of a smash and grab series. If you're in a rush, you can just grab this code and insert it into your application, no understanding is required. When you have some time (ya, right) you may want to review the source code.

Display Related Data in an ASP.NET GridView

Typically when you display a datagrid you will want to show data from a related table. There are 3 different ways to accomplish this with NetTiers. You can use a custom stored procedure, deepload functionality from the code behind, or a strongly typed datasource control. We'll provide an example of each

Short Overview of SharePoint Features in Visual Studio 2010

As you probably know, Visual Studio 2010 was announced earlier this week and it contains a lot of cool features and project templates for SharePoint developers. Below is a short overview for some of the SharePoint development related features and project templates.

Introducing ADO.NET and the Typed DataSet

In reviewing the applications it seemed everything they were doing involved database reads, writes, and manipulation. The development staff had been reviewing the articles and code samples for ADO.NET. They had spent many years refining their existing ADO based infrastructure and perfecting their use of ADO

Create and Use a Typed DataSet by Using Visual C# .NET

This article shows you how to create and use a typed DataSet in a small Web application. Typed DataSets, which inherit from the DataSet class, create first-class members of a DataSet's DataTables and DataColumns, yielding the many benefits that come with the use of strong typing.

Get Top 1 Record from Dataset

Many of them in need of getting the Top 1 or Top 10 records from a Dataset without going to SQL query. It is possible to do from Code Behind. I have given the code below,
The below code is to get single record from a Dataset. Also I have given for getting 8 records at Green Color.

divs do not display side by side

I have two divs. I want them to display side by side, on the same row. Using display:inline-block I can do that. But as soon as I position some text in the bottom right corner of div1, the two divs do not have the same vertical position. They are side by side, but the 2nd div starts at the vertical position of the positioned text in the 1st div.   Why would it do that?  Both Chrome and IE8 render it the same way.

( I am doing the nesting of the divs on the left side so that I can position absolutely within a div and not the page. I can't get text to position in the lower right corner of a div any other way. )
