Dropdownlist in ListView

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have a transaction table with a field called product. There is a limited number of choices for product so I also have a product table. I am showing the transactions in a ListView with a dropdownlist for Product. The field Product can be blank (all works well then). The user can leave the field blank or they can choose from the dropdownlist. I am running into a problem with the dropdownlist in the Edit Template. No matter what the product is in the transaction file, I get a page error of "ddlEditProduct has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items". I have verified the product does exist in the product table.

My markup is:

<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlEditProduct" runat="server"
DataSourceID="dsProduct"
DataTextField="Product"
DataValueField="Product"
AppendDataBoundItems="true"
SelectedValue='<%# Bind("Product") %>' >
<asp:ListItem Selected="True"></asp:ListItem>
</asp:DropDownList>

using 3.5 and C#

dropdownlist filter listview

I want to filter the table in my Listview (mvc2) using values from a dropdownlist shown at the top of the page. The values in the list are hard coded. Next to the dropdownlist I got a "Filter" button that calls the filter method on the controller   How can I pass the selected value from the list to the controller? for now I'm using a classic asp:dropdownlist<form runat="server" method="post"> <asp:DropDownList ID="dropdownlist1" runat="server"> <asp:ListItem>Item1</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>Item2</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>Item3</asp:ListItem> </asp:DropDownList> <input type="submit" value="Filter" onclick="this.form.action='/Home/Filter'" />   thank you

Paging not working with two controls- Dropdownlist & Listview

So I am using EW + Access database to create a page.

This page contains two controls. First control is Dropdownlist which databinds with second control Listview.

This listview has paging on becuse of multiple pages. If I don't use QueryStringField paging works but if I use QueryStringField paging doesn't work and it goes back to first option of Dropdownlist.

I need paging to access specific records.

Can anybody help me with this issue.

Thx in advance!!

Dropdownlist in ASP.Net 4.0 and ListView

 I had the following working in 3.5 but seems to be very different in 4.0.  Very simply I want to select the Value from a dropdownlist (description for the list is displayed) and then update the field in the table with the value (key - programming 101).

In my InsertItemTemplate section I added a dropdownlist instead of the defualt Textbox. In 3.5, I could just perform a databind on dropdownlist.Selected value.  I notice two things in 4.0 that are different:

1.  I define my dropdownlist (it's static so it is hardcoded) in the InsertItemTemplate but it is not defined in the code behind file (does not show up in intellisense either).

2.  If I define the dropdown outside the Listview COntrol (just for experimental sake), the dropdownlist does up but does not have the propert of Selectedvalue - a propert that cleary showed up in 3.5 which I used databind on - does not show up on the property list anymore.

Does anybody know how do perform such a basic function in 4.0?  Many thanks in advance.

ASP.NET 3.5 ListView with DropDownList in InsertItemTemplate

Hi,

I tried to place a DropDownList in the InsertItemTemplate of a ListView, which is bound to a (LINQ) data source. Let's say the ListView shows countries and the DropDownList lists the continents.

The intuitional attempt was the following:

 <InsertItemTemplate>
    <tr style="">
        <td>
            <asp:TextBox ID="NameTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Name") %>' />
        </td>
        <td>
            <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlContinent" runat="server"
               DataSourceID="ldsContinents"
               DataTextField="Name"
               DataValueField="Id"
               SelectedValue='<%# Bind("ContinentId&qu

Populates DropDownList in Listview

Hello There,

How can I populate a dropdownlist in an InsertItemTemplate in a ListView when it depends on another dropdownlist

i.e. First DropDownList has a list of continents, once this one is selected DropDownList2 should be populated with

the countries of the selected continent.

Mind, of course both DropDownLists are inside  the same InsertItemTemplate.

Thankx

Using a DropDownList within a ListView

I know how to bind a DropDownList to its own datasource, however I'm in a situation where the DDL doesn't need to be populated via a datasource (see below). However, I can't figure out how to select the value in the DDL based on the value of the item that the DDL appears in. In other words, if the value of the column 'Status' is '1', how do I select that specific value? Its it there a property of the DDL that I need to set or do I need to select the value via code behind using one of the ListViews events?

                            <asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownListStatus" runat="server" class="GenericControl" AutoPostBack="false" Width="100"
                                EnableViewState="true">
                                <asp:ListItem Value="0" Text="Not Completed" Selected="True" />
                                <asp:ListItem Value="1" Text="In Progress" />
                                <asp:ListItem Value="2" Text="Completed" />
                            </asp:DropDownList>

Using ASP.NET 3.5's ListView and DataPager Controls: Displaying Data with the ListView

Prior to ASP.NET 3.5, developers who needed to display a set of records could choose between the GridView, DataList, and Repeater controls. The GridView provides rich data features, but has a very boxy layout; the DataList and Repeater allow for a more flexible layout, but lack the "point and click" data features found in the GridView, DetailsView, and FormView controls. The ListView bridges the gap between layout flexibility and built-in data features.

This article, the first in a series of articles on the ListView and DataPager controls, looks at the ListView's many available templates and illustrates how to display data. Read on to learn more!

jQuery: Styling DropDownList Alternating Items (Rows)

In the following example, I will show how you can style any asp:dropdownlist very easily.

The example demonstrates how you can change alternating row items background color, using the fadeTo() to add a nice touch in the dropdownlist. You can change alt rows with a couple lines.

Working with DropDownList and ListBox Controls in ASP.NET

I wanted display some categories in dropdown list different color and others in different color using ASP.NET."-Anonymous

ASP.NET DropDownList Web Control, Part 1

Anybody with much experience in ASP has written an include file function for populating the contents of a SELECT dropdown list with entries from a database. Some of the more advanced users have even gone so far as to add caching to their function to reduce database hits for these rarely changing menu options. Naturally, these same techniques are going to be used with ASP.NET, but with a new programming object model. ASP.NET provides a web control, the DropDownList, which can be used for the same purposes as our custom built SELECT tag from Classic ASP.

Declaring a DropDownList in ASP .Net

A DropDownList is also commonly known as combo box. It can contain multiple data members, but unlike a normal list box the users can choose only one value from this control. Though the functionality of this DropDownList is much like a Single Row Select List Box, a DropDownList can save a lot of GUI space as it is rendered on a Single line and is expanded only when the user clicks on the Control

Multiple Column Dropdownlist for the ASP.NET DataGrid

Based on my previous control "Multiple Column DropDownList for ASP.NET", I received many emails asking for the same control to be used in the DataGrid for web applications. Here we go.. This control can be used as the regular MS DropDownList in the DataGrid and also as a regular dropdownlist. It has all the properties, like DataTextField, DataValueField, DataSource, SelectedIndex etc. The download file contains the samples both in VB.NET and C#. In this sample, I have used the Northwind database of SQL Server.

ASP.NET Multiple Selection DropDownList with AJAX HoverMenuExtender

Recently, I was looking for a multiple selection dropdownlist control for my new project. After spending some time researching for it, I decided to put together all my finding in one web user control. This web user control consists of an ASP.NET AJAX HoverMenuExtender, JavaScript, StyleSheet and CheckBoxListExCtrl . The final product will work with or without a MasterPage and you can drag and drop more than one instances of the control on to the page.
