how do you send a parameter value to a datasource from within an accordion panel?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 11, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

i have an accordion panel that is loading its values from a datasource, which is working fine. let's say it loads the 50 states from the states table. now inside each accordion panel, when expanded, i want to load a gridview with details of that specific state. also, i want to pull all the cities into another gridview from the cities table with stateID=@stateID.

i know this should be simple, but how do i pass the value of the stateID to the datasource of cities gridview? what is the syntax?

the abbreviated code i have so far is:

<cc1:Accordion ID="Accordion1" runat="server" DataSourceID="StatesDataSource" >
    <HeaderTemplate >
        <asp:Literal ID="ltrHeader" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("name") %>'></asp:Literal>
        <asp:GridView ID="citiesGridview" runat="server" DataSourceID="CitiesDataSource4"
            AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataKeyNames="id" AllowSorting="True" OnDataBinding="??" >

Using SqlDataSource as the Datasource to Accordion

The accordion does not renders. What am I missing? I want to use a parent child kind of accordion. Perhaps the child is not defined correctly, but I would like to see at list the seven tabs with the name of each organ system show up. The numbers of records for each organ system varies and I need a text box for each organ/tissue to be displayed, so I can insert in a findings table.

Here is what I have

new protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
            ModalPanel.Visible = false;
            ds1 = GetSqlOrganSystems();

protected SqlDataSource GetSqlOrganSystems()

         SqlDataSource dsL = new SqlDataSource();
            dsL.ID = "ds1";
            //#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"Organ_System_ID" DataBinder.Ev

Accordion Control with Panel...Add an Update Panel?

I have an accordion control in my web site.  And in one of the panels, I have a drop down list box where, when the user selects an item, it updates the labels right below the ddlistbox.  I have it so that it maintains the scroll position when the ddlistbox has an autopostback, but it's very obvious that the whole page posts back.

My question is, can I/should I just enclose the ddlistbox and the labels (and a couple of text boxes) in an AJAX update panel?  I already have a ToolScriptManager (because of the accordion control), so I don't need to have another script manager, right?  I can just put the update panel (with the other controls inside of it) right in the accordion panel, right?  Then when the ddlistbox posts back it won't have the delay of the whole page posting back?  And it'll still execute the event handler for the listbox selection change?

Does this sound right?  I'm just looking to make the post back "invisible", and I would like to do a partial postback of just these few controls.

Thanks in advance! :)

How to send data back to the datasource?

I have an ObjectDataSource which has two methods - GetData which gets data from the database and returns an array of Classes, and UpdateData which takes an array of Classes and updates the database.  The array of Classes contains sufficient information to allow UpdateData to work out what it needs to do.  So, to get an update to work, all I need to do is pass the [amended] array of Classes back to the ObjectDataSource via the UpdateData method. Then I have a control which inherits from DataBoundControl.  The control is happily using PerformSelect and PerformDataBinding to make the data available.  As it happens, I'm also implementing IScriptControl and throwing most of the data to the Browser as JSON for processing as a Javascript array.  I've got to the point where, on a PostBack, the data arrives back on the server and the control gets the array into the state where it is ready to update. Then, I need to pass the array of Classes over to the ObjectDataSource (the converse of the PerformSelect).  I was expecting to see a PerformUpdate or similar function within DataBoundControl.  At that point, I have juddered to a stop - and can't find anything which talks about how to get the data source to update. I'm, probably missing something obvious - and actually hope that I am! Thanks, Nick

Hiding a jQuery UI Accordion panel

How to send parameter in query string on ajax call in asp.net mvc

I want to send selected page value on querystring while navigating through paging. URL that is generating on paging are like this

Link/Index?page=2  or Link/Index?page=3

but on my URL it only shows Link/Index and perform Ajax call but if i disable my Javascript and then navigate through paging it gets Postback and have URL like

which is perfect. But i want this type of URL in Ajax call as well how can i do this? Issue is if we navigate through pages when Javascript is enable it shows Link/Index and when user goes to page no 2 then 3 then 4 and press back button it goes to press page instead of page 3 then page 2. For reference if writing the code which generate paging

<%= Ajax.Pager(new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "divGrid", LoadingElementId = "divLoading" }, ViewData.Model.PageSize, ViewData.Model.PageNumber,
    ViewData.Model.TotalItemCount, new { controller = "LinkManagement", action = "Index" })%>

Any way to change the icon to toggle the parameter panel in SSRS 2008 R2?

Is there any way I can change the icon that the HTML viewer in SSRS 2008 R2 uses to toggle the parameter panel?

I have users telling me it is too small and they want it bigger.  When I look at the page with the IE developer toolbar, the icon looks like it is being pulled from a resource inside ReportViewerWebControl.axd,

Problem with the layout of the parameter panel

I work on several server or vm, and did not have this problem before until this new vm.  For all my reports, the parameter section of the reports is not displayed properly.  It usually displays the parameters on a grey background, in this case it's totally white.  Also, the section containing the arrows to go to a page, the zoom, the find/next, the refresh...has the same problem also.  Where can I look to solve this?

Access property of object as session variable as declarative datasource parameter value

I am storing a custom "Organisation" object as a session variable. One of the properties of  the Organisation object is "OrganisationID" (integer).

I have a DataSource that requires a parameter value to run, and I want to use a SessionParameter to populate this. In a previous version, I stored the OrganisationID directly as a session variable. In that case, I could easily access it like this:

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
    SelectCommand="spGetUserJobList" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure">
        <asp:SessionParameter Name="OrganisationID" SessionField="OrganisationID" Type="Int32" />

However, how do I now access the OrganisationID property of an "Organisation" type session variable (called "Organisation")?

 I have tried this, which does not seem to work:

<asp:SessionParameter Name="OrganisationID" SessionField="Organisation.OrganisationID" Type="Int32" />

Hide a repeater in ASP.NET C# if the DataSource contains no items?

I have an ASP.NET page that uses a repeater nested within another repeater to generate a listing of data. It's to the effect of the following:
In the (C#) code-behind I'm basically using LINQ to pull a listing of information from an XML document and bind that information to the first repeater.

Searching for the answer to this, it seems the method is to determine whether the data for the nested repeater is empty. If it is, then you set the visibility of the repeater to false.

Manually sorting and paging Gridview without using datasource control

Many a times while working with Gridview we want to work with the paging and sorting functionality without using any datasource control. Gridview is flexible enough to perform these tasks without the use of any datasource control and only a few lines of code.

Send Email from SQL Server Express Using a CLR Stored Procedure

One of the nice things about SQL Server is the ability to send email using T-SQL. The downside is that this functionality does not exist in SQL Server Express. In this tip I will show you how to build a basic CLR stored procedure to send email messages from SQL Server Express, although this same technique could be used for any version of SQL Server.

If you have not yet built a CLR stored procedure, please refer to this tip for what needs to be done for the initial setup.

Use a column as parameter for a sds in another column; gridview

Hola, I have a gridview which is bound to a sds which returns 7 columns and I added two columns from the GUI.  What I want is to fill up the 9th column with DDLs and these  DDLS will get their data from a different sds which is using a stored procedure with a single parameter.  I created the 9th row, used template field, made the sds for 9th row, the stored_procedure, threw a DDL in Item template and all  I need now is to pass a parameter in the first column to the sds in the 9th column.  I can code this but i'm getting tired of aspx.cs :) and would like to do it from the GUI.

Dynamic Data, Domain datasource, Poco and lookups

Mr. Edward,

Excuse my question but: it is necessary to involve in our projects something more than just Dynamic Data or should we make use of all other features available in VS2010 (which will make assume taht they had been left out of the Dynamic Data framework) like: wef, poco, azure, wcf, cloud, mvc, silverllight, ajax, odata, agile, workflow, etc.?

Sorry my ignorance, I'm just transcribing names as they come to my mind and of which I don't know anything about

Send object from one page to another

I want to create object in 1.aspx, and then send it to 2.aspx. This methods are bad, because:

1)Send object with url, like this:

This is not confidential.

Session["field1"] = "12345"; // set
Object foo = Session["field1"]; // get

This is bad too, because in 2.aspx this fields send to textboxes, and if user go to 2.aspx without 1.aspx, he'll see old data.
