making page work after DB update in Form View

I could really use some help with this issue. I have a DropDown that allows the selection of a Category Code. The selection populates a Gridview with details of records matching the Category Code. I have only enabled the Select option on the Gridview, which when clicked populates a Formview in Edit Mode with the full record information. When editing is complete and the Update link is clicked, I can not get the page to properly reload/postback. When another Category Code is selected from the Drop Down the Gridview does not report a list of records.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks,

Portal Search Work - Site Collection Search Does Not

In our SharePoint installation we have an SSP which indexes local office sharepoint server sites.  However there is a problem, although we can do portal searches which reveal search results it is not able to do local searches at the site collection level and as a result we are presented with the typical error below.

No results matching your search were found.

  1. Check your spelling. Are the words in your query spelled correctly?
  2. Try using synonyms. Maybe what you're looking for uses slightly different words.
  3. Make your search more general. Try more general terms in place of specific ones.
  4. Try your search in a different scope. Different scopes can have different results.

I am unsure as to why this strange event is occuring.  We do not have the WSS Search component running in the MOSS environment as the SSP service should be able to index and server search queries at the portal and local site collection level.

Any thoughts to this?

Visual Studio 2008: having trouble in opening any web page

hi alli am unable to run any web page in the browser that i design in visual studio..i didnt understand that what happened. As the visual studio was working fine and i can easily run my websites that i create in it but now i tried to run different pages in its internal browser, internet explorer, mozilla firefox but they give error(the error which we get when we are not connected to internet and try to open a url).Even i had tried to build a new website and run it but the problem is still..i cant figure it out thats why came here and posted.so can anyone help me out...

Trouble getting my back/forward buttons to work correctly

My program has 4 pages that have session variables on each page and they are retrieved on the 4th and final page then submitted to a database when the submit button is clicked. When i was testing my program i filled out all 4 pages and then clicked back to refill-in something on a previous page and all my information wasn't filled out anymore. So i added the code in the page load sub btnBack.Attributes.Add("onClick", "javascript:history.back(); return false;") and this cured that problem so i could click back and the data would still be filled out. Then i saw a new problem....after i went back to fix something on previous pages 1 and 2, i would click the next button to go forward to pages 3 and 4 that i've already started filling out and now the data on those pages were cleared. So how do i make it so that the information from the whole program stays filled out whether i go back and forth from the 1st page to the 4th until i click submit on the 4th page? I have searched everywhere on the internet and cannot find a solution

SQL Server and MapPoint: Making MapPoint 2010 and SQL Server Spatial Work Together

While SQL Server is a good repository for geospatial data, it doesn't communicate with MapPoint as well as it could. So our geo-data experts show you how to read point and polygon objects from SQL Server and render them in MapPoint and how to write points and polygons back to SQL Server using Entity Framework 4.0 included with Visual Studio 2010.Eric Frost, Richard MarsdenMSDN Magazine September 2010

How does "Alert Me" work with simple web page?

In another post (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/83ec9566-0357-4f40-9388-f364e87c1bd4/)  I've learnt how to make simple web pages in MOSS 2007. Then I want to "subscribe" some users using the "alert me" function but it doesn't seem to work.  Do I miss something or "alert me" doesn't work with simple web pages?

Making asynchronous calls to web services during ASP.NET page processing

Some ASP.NET web applications use web services to get some data that they display to users. Some pages may lay hardly on web services and these pages need some optimization to work better. In this posting I will show you how to use web services behind your ASP.NET page asynchronously and perform a lot of queries to web services. Sample code included! Eneta.Examples.WebAppThreading.zip VS2008 solution | 60KB Asynchronous page processing As an introduction let's see how ASP.NET supports asynchronous calls behind pages. Although we can use our own threading mechanism and avoid what is offered by ASP.NET it is more safe and time saving to use ASP.NET own infrastructure. The image on right that I stole from MSDN article Asynchronous Pages in ASP.NET 2.0 shows you how synchronous and asynchronous pages are processed by ASP.NET. I recommend to read this MSDN article because you can find also other methods for asynchronous calls. I will introduce you how to use PageAsyncTask based calls. If you look at diagram on right you can see that asynchronous processing of registered tasks happens between PreRender and PreRenderComplete events in separate threads. If we have data bound controls on our page we have to move data binding to PreRenderComplete event because this is the closest phase of page processing where asynchronous calls are finished.

SharePoint 2010 new site collection display blank page

I'm using Windows Vista SP2 and trying to learn Sharepoint 2010. I'm new to Sharepoint and I'm sorry if I'm asking something very simple. I've successfully installed Sharepoint foundation 2010 and VS 2010. According to the installation instruction if the installation is successful I should see the new sharepoint website home page or ask for login info which will take to the home page. But for me it displayed a blank web page. I was able to get to Sharepoint Central administration page by clicking the browse option from IIS, it asked me login info and when I provided that I was able to see the Sharepoint central administration page. Now I am trying to create a new site collection, it is succesfully creating the new site collection and showing the link, but when I access the link I see a blank webpage. I think it is some permission issue and if the program prompts login, it should work, but how can I get to the login window or how can I see the home page and not a blank page? Thanks

Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock does not work

All, I am new to .Net and webpart. What I try to do is to create a griedview webpart with a functionality of export to excel. The gridview also can drildown another gridview. The drilldown work as expected. When click export to excel link button it works ok, too. The problem is when comeing back to the gridview to click any row, it stops to drilldown. If I want to use export to excel link it stop working also. Only refresh page can make it work again. I did research and found a solution, that is, to implement a javascript to solve the problem. I follow references from microsoft site as shown below. But it never works. Can anyone tell me what wrong I did? Thanks a lot   private const string ByeByeIncludeScriptKey = "myByeByeIncludeScript"; private const string EmbeddedScriptFormat = "<script type='text/javascript'>function ClientScript(){ _spOriginalFormAction = document.forms[0].action; _spSuppressFormOnSubmitWrapper=true;}</script> "; //Constructor  public DataViewer() {  public DataViewer()this.PreRender += new EventHandler(DataViewer_PreRender); } //Client Script registration   private void DataViewer_PreRender(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { if (!this.Page.ClientScript.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered(ByeByeIncludeScriptKey))this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(typeof(DataViewer), ByeByeI

Repeat Report Item with Data Region on Every Page - doesn't work

Hi All, The Repeat Report Item with Data Region on Every Page property does not work - or atleast not the way i would expect it to. My report contains a header which is the Report Name. In the report body - I have text box with the company name, pulled from a data set. Below the company name i have a line, followed by a text box displaying the selected parameters. When I run the report, the first page displays all information as expected. However, subsequent pages only display the report header (report name) with the table butted up against it. I have tried setting the Repeat Report Item with Data Region on Every Page to true (and the data region to my table) for the Company Name text box, the line, and the parameters text box. This has no affect i.e. page 2, page n... are not printing the three items. Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks.  Clay

What is the best way to develop a multi-page Windows Application (i.e. work like a web app - no pop-

Hi, I have implemented a toolstrip and want to use this as my menu to change current page (just like a web application). I DON'T want extra forms popping up.    I ask this question as in the past I have always used TAB Control, but now that I'm using the toolstrip I don't require the Tab Buttons themselves. Can I hide these buttons, during runtime. Obviously I only need one tab displayed at a time. I have looked at using a panel, but that means I can't flick between panels during design stage. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks. John.

Making an Observable Collection visible project wide

I have an ObservableCollection which I works fine within the Window in which it is defined. (See code below)  However, I can't seem to use this in a second Window. Is this to do with the way it is defined or are there simple techniques for getting at it?

    Public _ocEng As ObservableCollection(Of EnPlayer)

Public Property EngSqd() As ObservableCollection(Of EnPlayer)
        Get
            Return _ocEng
        End Get
        Set(ByVal value As ObservableCollection(Of EnPlayer))
            _ocEng = value
        End Set
    End Property

    Private Sub Window_Loaded(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles MyBase.Loaded
        _ocEng = New ObservableCollection(Of EnPlayer)()
        For i = 0 To 4
            EngSqd.Add(New EnPlayer(ref(i), names(i), bat(i), picked(i)))
