JIT and Run: Drill Into .NET Framework Internals to See How the CLR Creates Runtime Objects

There's lots to explore in the .NET Framework 2.0, and plenty of digging to be done. If you want to get your hands dirty and learn some of the internals that will carry you through the next few years, you've come to the right place. This article explores CLR internals, including object instance layout, method table layout, method dispatching, interface-based dispatching, and various data structures.

Windows XP SP3 - Cannot find runtime using .NET framework 4.0, applications fail to execute.

I'm using Windows XP SP3 Computer, but runtime won't work, it's a friends computer, my computer (Windows 7) runs .NET just fine. It was just installed and it shows this error whenever you execute a program using .NET Framework/Runtime:
Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application.

With an OK button below it. It won't work! I've tried rebooting it though, still it won't work! Help!

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error when installing .NET Framework 4.0

For some reason I'm unable to install .NET Framework 4.0. I downloaded the stand-alone install file from Microsoft Download Centre after the web installer didn't work but it still doesn't work. Next I tried removing all the previous installatiosn of .NET Framework using the Cleanup Tool found on here - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx - and clearing the TEMPS folder but it didn't change anything.

Every time I try to install .NET Framework 4.0 I get this message:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Very Strange Error coming from .NET Framework/Runtime

Just recently we've been getting a lot of the errors shown below. This is coming from a .NET (C#) web site we've created that contains hundreds of web services. These errors don't occur on a regular basis but they are getting much more frequent.

We're using .NET Framework V2 with VS 2005.

The error is:

Timed out waiting for a program to execute. The command being executed was "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\csc.exe" /noconfig /fullpaths @"C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\ahj1hyzs.cmdline".

We've also been getting quite a few of these types of errors:

Unable to load DLL 'activeds.dll': A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007045A)

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Creating a Generic Entity Framework 4.0 Repository

With .NET 4.0 right around the corner, I thought it would be cool to download Visual Studio 2010 beta 2 and start playing around with the next release of Entity Framework.

The initial release of Entity Framework came with a great deal of criticism. To make matters worse, there was a large uproar when it was rumored that Microsoft would be abandoning LINQ to SQL, in favor of Entity Framework. This was because, at the time, many developers felt Entity Framework was an inferior technology to LINQ to SQL. To set things right, Microsoft proactively moved forward with improving Entity Framework, in time for the 4.0 release of the .NET Framework. This is good news because my initial impressions, so far, have been nothing but positive.

ASP.NET 4.0 Dynamic Data and Many to Many Entity Framework Entities

I did not play much with Dynamic Data controls in VS2008 and just made a cool discovery in VS2010 Beta 2. This may not even be new, but as I'm sitting 30,000+ feet over the Atlantic ocean, I don't have access to VS2008 at the moment to check.

Create And Run Excel Macro At Runtime in C#

You've been tasked with writing a Windows Form application using the .NET Framework that interacts with Microsoft Excel. If you are new to working with Excel in .NET and are having trouble learning how to format certain cells or cell ranges, then this little tip will come in handy. Rather than scour the internet hoping to find the correct set of constants or method syntax for formatting your spreadsheet, use the built in tools in Excel to write the familiar VBA code for you. Then, you can paste the VBA code generated by Excel into the sample C# code below and run it dynamically at runtime.

Entity Framework 4 Tips for WinForms Development

I've been recently working on a smart client (WinForms) application backed by Entitiy Framework 4 (EF4) on Visual Studio 2010. In this blog post I will try to give you some tips regarding some limitations and points to be careful about EF4.

Bar Code Scanners with the .NET Compact Framework

Summary: Learn how to make your applications use bar code scanners in a generic way-ndependent of the specific bar code scanners that are used on different devices. Using the design patterns Façade and Factory, the implementation not only supports multiple bar code scanners, but it also makes it easy to add support for other bar code scanners. After a brief discussion about bar code scanners and the bar code scanner pattern, a download code sample, written in C#, demonstrates the use of the pattern and technologies.

Serial Communication with the .NET Compact Framework

Learn how to make your applications communicate over a serial port and how to handle common issues when implementing serial solutions. After a general discussion about serial communication and a common serial communication standard, this article demonstrates a practical use of the technologies through sample source code written in C#.

How to Localize Windows Forms and Change the Language at Runtime

Localization is the process of customizing your application to a particular language, culture or locale. Visual Studio provides support for localizing Windows Forms with much ease. In this article, we will see how to localize windows forms and give the user the ability to change to his preferred language at runtime.
When you run a localized application, the appearance is determined by two culture values. The UICulture property is used to specify which resource files will be loaded for the form. The Culture property, on the other hand, determines how strings such as dates, numerals, and currency amounts are formatted.
Let us see the steps required to create a localized form. You can then expand this example and adopt the same approach for the rest of the forms in your project

Create new sql table at runtime VB.Net

I want to create a new table to sql database at runtime.  The column names would be "Name", "Date", "Event".  I would also like to have one more column name "Image" but the problem is that since the amount of images will vary, I want the application to count the amount of files in the Multiple fileuploader and then add a image column to the table for the respected amount of files.

For example if i am uploading 3 files in the multiple fileuploader, the names should be "Name", "Date", "Event", "Image1", "image2", Image3"

I also would like that table name to be name dynamically from the textbox Name when the user enters the information.

I have the following code to make a new table, but I dont know how to name the fields at runtime like previously asked please help!!!

Dim objConn As New SqlConnection("Server=<servername>;uid=<userid>;pwd=<password>;database=master")
