File system permission error during BACKUP service master key

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 11, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi,

I'm having a strange issue with file system permissions.

A backup database to file location e:\sqlbackup works fine.
A BACKUP SERVICE MASTER KEY or BACKUP MASTER KEY fails with the error ´MSG 15240, Level 16, State 1 Cannot Write into file ´e:\sqlbackup\file.bak' Verify that you have write permissions, etc...'

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Hi I have migrated to a new computer using Windows 7, 6 gig memory, I7 chip (old machine had xp) and have installed Visual Studio 2008 and  SQL Server 2008 R2.  I get CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 262) when I try to create a new database.  Other posts (example:http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqltools/thread/28fee0ed-c7e2-40df-8f79-f513c9848f09/) work for Vista but I cannot find how to grant permissions.  Run as administrator (vista fix) does not work. I have admin privaleges on my machine.  There are no other accounts.    What do I need to do to update privaleges? Thanks and have a nice day.

Unable to Backup Service Master Key on SQL 2008 Express

Hi I am attempting to do a backup of the Server Master Key but it fails. The error message I am receiving is as follows: Msg 15240, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot write into file 'C:\Users\harvey norman\Documents\SQL Server Management Studio Express\SQLEXPR2008ADV_ServerMasterKey'. Verify that you have write permissions, that the file path is valid, and that the file does not already exist. The PC I am running SQL 2008 Express (64 bit) is running on Vista Ultimate (64-bit) SP2. The SQL I wrote is as follows: BACKUP SERVICE MASTER KEY TO FILE = 'C:\Users\harvey norman\Documents\SQL Server Management Studio Express\SQLEXPR2008ADV_ServerMasterKey' ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = '??' GO Note that the ?? represents the password but is not actually the password for obvious reasons. I am logged in to the PC as a user with Admin permissions.  I had a look at the destination folder, and it shows I have full control. So, I am mystified. If somebody could advise me I would really appreciate it. Many thanks in advance. Kind regards Ross Ross

Directory lookup for the file failed with the operating system error 5

Hi I have a Windows desktop application that uses a SQLServer Express database.  The database files are downloaded from my website, followed by the application download (written in VBE).  The first procedure is to attach the database to the SQLServer instance from within the application. I have two test machines one runs Windows XP x84, the other Windows 7 x64.  I never have issues on attaching the database files in my test envirnoment but twice now other people downloading have got the following error System.Data.Sqlclient.sqlexception (ox 80131904) Directory lookup for the file C:\Documtents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Tem1.mdf failed with the operating system error 5 (failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason 1815) changed database context to 'master'. I'm not sure what the problem is and therefore how to correct the issue.  I attach the database in code using the create statement e.g. cmd7.CommandText = "USE Master CREATE DATABASE Tem1 ON PRIMARY (FILENAME = '" & DBFullPath & "') LOG ON (FILENAME = '" & DbLogPath & "') FOR ATTACH" Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. FCB::Open: Operating system error 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by

Hello all,I am running into an interesting scenario on my desktop.  I'm running developer edition on Windows XP Professional (9.00.3042.00 SP2 Developer Edition).  OS is autopatched via corporate policy and I saw some patches go in last week.  This machine is also a hand-me-down so I don't have a clean install of the databases on the machine but I am local admin.So, starting last week after a forced remote reboot (also a policy) I noticed a few of the databases didn't start back up.  I chalked it up to the hard shutdown and went along my merry way.  Friday however I know I shut my machine down nicely and this morning when I booted up, I was in the same state I was last Wenesday.  7 of the 18 databases on my machine came up withFCB:pen: Operating system error 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.) occurred while creating or opening file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\Test.mdf'. Diagnose and correct the operating system error, and retry the operation.and it also logs  FCB:pen failed: Could not open file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\Test.mdf for file number 1. OS error: 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.).I've caught references to the auto close feature being a possible culprit, no dice as the databases in question are set to Fal

TDE disabled and service restarted but still can't restore a new backup file

Hello, I disabled TDE on my dev database because we determined no personally identifiable info will be stored.  Disabling was done like so:Then I created a backup of MyDB database and tried to restore on a different server instance on my same machine (using SSMS) and I get  the following error: ALTER DATABASE MyDB SET ENCRYPTION OFF GO use MyDB go drop database encryption key go use master go DROP certificate DevCert GO DROP MASTER KEY GO Afterwards, I ran the following query to ensure there are no encrypted databases, and it returns zero rows: SELECT DB_NAME(database_id) AS dbname, encryption_state, case encryption_state   WHEN 0 THEN 'Unencrypted (no database encryption key present)'   WHEN 1 THEN 'Unencrypted'   WHEN 2 THEN 'Encryption in Progress'   WHEN 3 THEN 'Encrypted'   WHEN 4 THEN 'Key Change in Progress'   WHEN 5 THEN 'Decryption in Progress'   ELSE CAST(encryption_state AS varchar(20)) END AS encryption_state, key_algorithm, key_length FROM sys.dm_database_encryption_keys Then I created a backup of MyDB database and tried to restore on a different server instance on my same machine (using the SSMS) and I get the following fatal error: The media family on device 'c:\Program Files\...\Backup\TDE_removed_from_db.bak' is incorrectly formed.  SQL Server cannot process this media family.

Cannot open backup device 'F:\foldername'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.).

SQL 2005 Enterprise Even if I logon as Administrator and try to backup any of my databases to local partitions, I get this error below. Downloading a document from a sharepoint site to local file system, copy web service returns null

Hi Guys,
               I am trying to get this done for the last 2 days and I am still banging my head to the wall.
All I need to do is to download files from my sharepoint site library that uses integrated windows authentication. I was using copy webservice : getItem method to accomplish this.

CopyService.GetItem(copySource, out myFieldInfoArray, out myByteArray);

Problem : myByteArray is always returned as NULL

Note: I have tried the same with another site that uses forms authentication but the result was the same (NULL !!)

This is my code:

CopyService.

Copy copy = new CopyService.Copy();

Reuse XAML Declarative Workflow in Workflow Service (xamlx) Results in Server Error of System.Argume

We attempted to reuse a XAML (declarative activity workflow) in a few places within the same XAMLX and it doesn't appear to allow this.   On the WCF client side, it reported an obscure error of something to the effect of unknown message received and a communication error stating the service instance couldn't be used at this time and to ensure the call order is correct or order delivery guarantee is enabled.   However, this appears to mask the true issue which is on the server side.   Apparently, when the server side WCF end point is trying to start the workflow instance, it throws this error building a dictionary of workflow children...

Error: 5123 CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5A(Access denied.)

 HI ,

 This is a problem I encountered when I had to detach a database file (type .mdf):

 1) I went to the MS SQL Management Server Studi and detached my database file successfully from a connection called Workhorse.

2) I needed to place the .mdf database file into a zip file in order to put it on a remote server. I did this using Shared Portal.  This was also successful

3) However when I tried reattaching the database file, I got this error:

CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5A(Access denied.) while attempting to open or create the physical file "C\Program Files\MSSQL Server\MSSQL\Data\<databasename>.mdf'

Q) The database file and log file (ldf) exist in the correct directory so I don't know what happened. Can any one help?

 Thanks much

Tonante
