SSRS 2008 R2 - Parent Child Hierarchy - Searchable Parameter List

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 11, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi dear,

I'm, workin at the moment on a report for my company. I have a problem with searching in a parameter list which is based upon a parent child hierarchy. The users asked me for type in the first few characters to search the parameter faster (like in this post ) , because it's a large hierarchy with about 1700 values. In a "normal" list ("linear" without  a hierarchy) this feature is available.

So my question:

Isn't it possible to search in the parameter list in general if this is based upon a hierarchy?

Are there any possibilities or suggestions to get this feature?

Or is this the only way to do this:

Thanks in advance!

ssrs 2008 R2 - report parameter with no default set throws java script error

We have recently upgraded from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2008 R2....I am experiencing a problem with my report parameters on my SSRS reports. It seems that my report parameters that I do not have a specified 'default' value throws a java script error when I try and run/render the report under R2.  As soon as I put a 'default' value on the report param, everything is fine.  However, that is not the behavior we need for our reports...the user needs to pick their selection. Can anyone shed some light on this, it seems to be an AJAX problem...I need to be able to have report parameters with a list of values, but no 'default' value on the parameter.

SSRS 2008 Export to PDF fails for large data with System.Exception: Parameter is not valid

Hi, We are working on Range Bar Chart using SSRS 2008. The report has huge data. It is properly displaying the data, but when we tried to export to pdf it is failing with the following exception. Exporting to excel works fine. Also if the report has small/medium data it is property exporting to PDF. It is failing only in case of huge data (we have custom page size of 28" X 14"). Of course the report has lot of expressions we used to customize the colors/text as per our requirements.   Server Error in '/Reports_SQLDEV2008' Application. Parameter is not valid. SSRS 2008 R2 - Sharepoint list item hyperlink bug?

I have created a report based on a sharepoint list and I am using a subscription in WSS 3.0 to email the report to the users once a week. I want one column in the report to act as a hyperlink to the sharepoint list item but in the email version of the report, the URL has the list item ID repeated twice, which renders the link invalid. Initially, I tried using the 'Encoded Absolute URL' from the sharepoint list query to populate the hyperlink but this just gives a 404 NOT FOUND error and I have found documented in several places on the web that this link only works with document libraries. So instead, I decided to create the URL for the action using an expression, like this: ="http://myserver/mysite/Lists/mylist/DispForm.aspx?ID=" & ListItemID.Value This works perfectly in the development environment and when people run the report for themselves in the sharepoint document library where it is deployed but, for some reason, if I send the report on a schedule then I get the ID parameter repeated at the end twice. Like this: http://myserver/mysite/Lists/mylist/DispForm.aspx?ID=999&ID=999 I have tried rendering the report in several different formats (Word, PDF, MHTML, HTML) and they all seem to work fine in the development and when run within SharePoint but not when they are rendered and emailed using the scheduler. Is this a bug or am I missing so

SSAS - How to get other members from dimension that has Parent Child hierarchy?

I have a Sales Territory dimension that has employee and parent employee attribute on which parent child hierarchy is defined and it gives below hierarchy while browsing - - Mark Rolls --- Lumin Jacs ----- Larry Gomes ------- Messica Owens ------- Tom Ted ----------- Jackson Lopez ----- Matthew Ron --- Fred jacob - Jason Ron --- Jecy Pedro   But beside this parent-child hierarchy I have other attributes like employee address, email and telephone. My facts related sales transaction is tagged to lowest level. For example here facts are available only for Jackson Lopez (being Field Executive). When use below query I get complete sales reporting hierarchy result with some measures like sales amount, sales volume. But while accesing other attributes like address or email, it's repeating address/email/telephone of jackson Lopes everywhere to whom fact record is linked, Actually I want address/email/telephone of each sales employee from that dimension within hierarchy. How do I get it? The query I used is: Here Parent Terr ID is parent child hierachy. SELECT ( Descendants( { [Dim SalesRegion].[Parent Terr ID].[Employee Level 01].&[538018] /* here Mark Rolls is 538018 */ }, 0,AFTER), NONEMPTY([Dim SalesRegion].[Emp Address].[Emp Address].Members), NONEMPTY([Dim SalesRegion].[Emp Email].[Emp Email].Members) ) ON ROWS , { ([Dim Date].[The Year].[The Year].[CY-2010], [Dim

Parent-Child, Unbalanced Hierarchy and unexpected Root behaviour

I have a chart accounts that contains an account key and parent account key (like the AW Enterprise sample). Each account ultimately has either Assets or Liabilities as parent. However, There also some accounts appear in the root because they have less levels then the other accounts. to put in other words: the acounts with exactly four levels, ultimately show up with either assets or liabilities in the root but the members with less then four levels, also appear in the root instead of under Assets or Liabilities. Where am I going wrong? The dimension settings appear to be exactly the same as the AdventureWorks-sample.

Parent child hierarchy & MDX to fetch particular level & all members below it along with measures us

How do I stop line feeds in a Hierarchy field from a SharePoint list to prevent wrapping in a SSRS r

I'm developing a Reporting Services 2005 report that includes a Hierarchy field from a SharePoint 2007 list.  The Data Source for the report is an XML type. I would like to display the Hierarchy field on 1 line.  However, it is displaying in 2 or more lines in Visual Studio 2005. The field also wraps when rendering to Acrobat (PDF) file.  How can I get rid of the embedded line feed (I believe it's "&#xA").  I've tried using the Replace function in an expression, other functions and changed the properties, e.g., the CanGrow property.  Nothing seems to work.   Here's what I get: LAW>Administrative Law LAW>Criminal Law LAW>International Law   I'd like to see something like this (I'm able to add the "/"): LAW>Administrative Law /LAW>Criminal Law /LAW>International Law/

Poor Performing Parent Child Hierarchy

Q1:  Is my dimension and measures designed properly for scd 2 changes in the dimension? Q2:  If using a parent-child hierarchy is an acceptable approach, why would my query perform so poorly against my customer dimension?  I have developed a customer dimension with scd 2.  Within in the dimension I have two surrogate keys: corporate customer key and customer key and the source system ID: customer ID.  I use the corporate customer key to group or relate fuzzy matched customer records (based on other customer attributes) and to group or relate the scd 2 changes.   CustomerCorpKey CustomerID CustomerKey GeographyKey CreateTimeStamp ExpireTimeStamp 21 28 21 27937 29:18.8 22:14.0 21 28 473359 27937 22:14.0 NULL Now my fact table has the customer corp key, customer id, and customer key. DateKey FullDateAlternateKey CustomerCorpKey CustomerKey CustomerID Some Measure 20100913 9/13/2010 21 21 28 $500 If you notice, the customer dimension has undergone a change.  The new customer key is not in the fact table, but I want to keep the historical changes of the customer dimension, but I can no longer link the fact to the customer dimension unless I use the customer corp key and customer key combination.  I thought I could use a parent-child dimension on the customer corp key and customer key attributes

List of SSRS 2008 bugs fixed in R2

Hi All.

Does anybody have the list of SSRS 2008 bugs fixed in R2?

Also, SSRS 2008 does not allow text box number formats to be based on expressions. Is it fixed in R2?

Thank you.

How to show primary key of Parent-Child hierarchy

I have dimesion with ragged Parent-Child hierarchy. For instance organizational structure of a company. Commonly the hierarchy shows names of hierarchy items but now I need to create MDX query where result on axis 1 will be ID (primary key of dimesion) of item and name of item, but main is to show id.

SELECT {} ON 0,
{[Product].[MetaGroupHierarchy].children} ON 1
FROM MyOLAPCube

With mentioned MDX query the result is :

name1
name2
name3
...

And I would like to have:
ID1, name1
ID2, name2
ID3, name3

or

ID1
ID2
ID3

I do not know how to construct MDX query in this case.  Because main dimesion key has to have NameColumn property set to field with name of item.

SSRS 2008: Multiple Sub-Reports with conditional visibility in one List control

MainReport: a List containing two Sub-Reports. The data of the List only has two rows. Set the visibility of the sub-report based on the data.

SubReport1: a textbox showing "Sub Report 1"

SubReport2: a textbox showing "Sub Report 2"

I expect to see SubReport1 in Page 1 and SubReport2 in Page 2.

But I only see SubReport1 in Page 1 and Page 2 is a blank page.

These reports work in SSRS 2005, but not in SSRS 2008.

Thanks.

Reload of Parent-Child-Hierarchy

Hi,

I have a problem with the parent-child-hierarchy after page reload.

Wie use SSAS 2005 and SSRS 2005 with newest service packs and patches. The parent-child-hierarchy works in the reports excellently. But we have a hierarchy with 9 levels. If the users expand some levels and thereafter change the filter or sort the columns, will be the page reloaded and whole hierarchy is collapsed again.

Can you suggest a solution for this problem. Is the problem solved in SSRS 2008?

SSRS 2008 Cascading Parameter Problems

We are having a problem with dependent parameters.  Has anyone see something like this with ssrs 2008?  It is a show stopper for us.  After everything tested out ok (or with only minor gui bugs), we set a date to roll this to production.  With this recent discovery, we are unable to move forward until it is resolved.  We didn't notice it since there are a small number of our 400 some reports that do this type of thing.  Unfortunately, they are the most important in our organization.  These worked without a problem in 2005.

Sample below:

ReportMode (depends on what is selected in RunAsUser)

Avail: ID from ReportModeDataSet

Default: ID from ReportModeDataSet

Location (depends on what is selected in ReportMode)

Avail: ID from LocationDataSet

Security permission for a key attribute which belongs to a parent-child hierarchy.

Hello,

I have a dimension with a parent-child hierarchy on the key attribute and another attribute for the parent. I also want to declare a role with a permission to view only a specific member of that dimension, but it doesn't let me define a restriction on the key attribute and says I must define the equivalent restriction on the parent attribute. The problem is that I don't know how to accomplish that because I must use a specific value, so I can't restrict it using this value's parent or children. I might be stupid, but I really have no idea how to do it...

Thanks.

Best design option for multiple parent / multiple child list?

I made 2 lists.  "User Groups" and "Resource Groups".  In User Groups, I setup a column to do a multi-select lookup to the Resource Groups lists title column.  Obviously as this gets built, groupings will form in the other direction as well... Is there a way to programatically do that, so I don't have to complete a multi-select colum in the Resource Groups list that does a lookup to the User Groups list to get info I logically already have.

I tried to do it with a workflow, but was only able to update 1 item so the multi-select concept was pointless.

I want to have the multi-select information displayed regardless of which list your looking in.  If you look in a User Groups list item, you can see all the resources the users have access to... if you look at a Resource Group list item, you can see what User Groups have access to it (linked by multi-select lookup), and i'd like to only have to populate the lookup in 1 direction and build the reverse relationships on automatically.

Hope that makes sense.  You'd think you could auto import this info but I can't get Domain Local groups to show up, seems to be a limitation of the WSDL for connecting to AD (forget the correct term for that piece), so I'll add them manually..

Thanks

Mark
