Auto Refresh Issues in BIDS

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 11, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am having 2 issues in SSRS 2008 R2 (Version 10.50.1600.1)

1. If I preview a report that has the auto-refresh enabled, when I stop previewing the report, the query continues to be executed for the auto-refresh.  This continues until I close the report.

2. If I don't close the report, and let it continue to auto-refresh, eventually BIDS will crash, either giving me errors about WindowID invalid, or just disappear altogether.

Can anyone else reproduce this or have you experienced it?

To reproduce, create a report, put a value in the auto-refresh (i use 30 seconds), open profiler, and then preview the report in BIDS.  Wait for an auto-refresh to occur, and then go back to design mode in BIDS. Now watch profiler. You should see your dataset query executed at the auto-refresh interval.

Thanks!

Auto-Refresh

Hello..  I created a website in which I have an update panel being updated via a timer.  This works fine when there's only a few people online.

But now, during live testing, this bogs down the server because we have 30-60 people hitting the website and this page is being updated via the server.

Is there a way to have the page auto-update itself via javascript?  And how would I go about doing this so only a certain panel is updated instead of the full screen.

Thanks..

Auto-complete extender and default button of a panel - Enter key issues

Hi. I have a text box with an auto-complete extender attached to it. This is in a panel. Now, I have set the default button of the panel to the submit button of the panel.

<panel>

      <text box/>

      <autocompleteextender/>

      <button/>

</panel>

Now, I find that when the auto-complete options show up and I try to select an option using the enter key, the button is pressed (triggering a postback) due to it being the defaultbutton of the panel.

I want to be able to select an aut-complete option using the enter key and yet not post back. Therefore, the enter key (when the text box is in focus) should not trigger a postback. How can I achieve this?

How to activate auto-refresh the visio drawing

Hi,

we are using the Visio Services in Sharepoint. I have condected my Visio VDW File with the data (from SQL, from SP Site etc.) If I click on the file I see thatauto refresh is desabled and I can see the updated data only if I click refresh, or refresh always, refresh for this session.

If I open it again it's the same history about the update. How can I activate auto-refresh when I open the vdw-drawing?

P.S. Sorry what I post the topic in the false forum, I did not find the visio in sharepoint.

thanks in advance

Sebastian

2010 Visio Services Data Auto Refresh Issue

Hi,

I have published vdw diagram in Sharepoint 2010 Shared Documents. The diagram data is linked to SQL database.

When I view the diagram in the browser, unless I click dedicated "Refresh" button on the top left at the sharepoint page, data is not updating.

I have changed all the SP 2010 Global settings to minimal value = 0 (as per previous post called 2010 Visio Services Data Refresh Issue).

Still you need to click dedicated "Refresh" button on the top left at the sharepoint page in order to see updated data.

In the article called "Visio Services for SharePoint 2010" is stated that new Visio service supports AUTOMATIC REFRESH.

Am I missing something? Is it possible to have a visio diagram with AUTOMATIC REFRESH published in SharePoint 2010?

I can do some workarounds like publishing in web parts page that has auto pooling, but my understanding was that the Visio diagram refresh is event based on data change only - means if data do not change 10 minutes there will be no calls?

Regards

Valko

BITS: Write Auto-Updating Apps with .NET and the Background Intelligent Transfer Service API

Both the .NET Framework and Windows have some very interesting APIs for creating applications that are capable of updating themselves automatically over a network. There are many advantages to writing your application to update itself like Windows Update does, including convenience for your users, from easier maintenance to network administration. Automatic updates require attention to factors such as discovery, security, and file replacement. In this article, the author covers the BITS API as well as a number of features of the .NET Framework that take care of these facets of auto-updating using the same facilities that the Windows Update uses.

Versioning Issues With Optional Arguments

One nice new feature introduced in C# 4 is support for named and optional arguments . While these two features are often discussed together, they really are orthogonal concepts. Let's look at a quick example of these two concepts at work. Suppose we have a class with one method having the following signature. // v1 public static void Redirect( string url, string protocol = "http" ); This hypothetical library contains a single method that takes in two parameters, a required string url and an optional string protocol . The following shows the six possible ways this method can be called. HttpHelpers.Redirect( "http://haacked.com/" ); HttpHelpers.Redirect(url: "http://haacked.com/" ); HttpHelpers.Redirect( "http...(read more)

determine the best way to refresh a gridview when textchanged event occurs

Good afternoon.

I have the following gridview inside an updatepanel that makes the bind from a datatable:

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">
            <ContentTemplate>
                <asp:Button ID="ButtonAdd" runat="server" OnClick="ButtonAdd_Click" Text="Novo Artigo" />
                <asp:GridView ID="Dados" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False"
                    CssClass="Grid" Width="100%" CellPadding="4" ForeColor="#333333"
                    GridLines="None">
                    <AlternatingRowStyle BackColor="White" ForeColor="#284775" />
                    <Columns>
                    <asp:TemplateField>
                    <ItemTemplate>
                        <asp:Button ID="AbrirModal" runat="server" Text="->" />
                                <asp:PopupControlExtender ID="PopupControlExtender1" runat="server"
                                TargetControlID="AbrirModal"
                                PopupControlID="PanelArtigos"
                                >

re load javascripts and jquaries after ajax refresh

I use javascript hints for my textbox and when page loads I set that, but after submiting data for example in the case of error in input and need for inputing again the data it doesn't show the hints, which means that when ajax sends Httprequest and gets Httpresponse and refreshes the update panel , that panel doesn't accept loaded jscripts again, so they should be loaded again.

I do not know how to do that in asp.net, any tips or recomendations?

Issues with Visual Studio 2010 editor

hi all,

I am having a weird problem with VS 2010. I am using the premium edition.

It seems that none of the asp controls <asp:..> tag are recognized by the editor. I keep getting a green underline under each control name. To check this, I have created a brand new web site targeting .NET framework 4.0 and even in the auto-generated pages, none of the asp controls is recognized. I am also unable to see the properties of any control if I click inside the tag (at an attribute). All I get is the ID of the button and the tag <HTML ELEMENT>! Furthermore, when I drop an ASP control from the toolbox, the attribute "ID" is not generated. Only when I switch to the design view that I can get to see the properties of the control and the ID is set automatically. The message for the green underline says: Element 'Button' is not a known element. This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web Site, or the web.config file is missing.

Does anyone know what is going on?

Thanks,

Talal
