SSIS job to check if SSAS cubes are working

Hi all,

I am having some management problems and need to prove that the cubes are available for browsing.

I have had a look at SSIS to see if there is a task but I suspect I need to script something out.

Can anyone give me any pointers ?

Many thanks.

Determining the status os the Batch job that process SSAS Cubes

Hi All, I have a cube and that is processed through a batch job. The problem I am facing is there are many packages which are calling this Batch job to process the cube. Is there a way to determine the state of the job before the packages call this batch job to process the cube. And in which database can I find all the information about the jobs on the server. Thanks for your help. Vineeshvineesh1701

Excel Data Source SSIS AcquireConnection failed 0x80004005 unspecified error

Nuances of using Excel data sources with SSIS Your Development Machine Setup Needs Jet Drivers, available along with the default Office install so if you have Excel working fine locally, this is enough. Installing the "Office Data Connectivity Components" (download file name AccessDatabaseEngine.exe) as well as having Office installed corrupts the Jet Driver stack so that SSIS in VS 2008 cannot create the object to read the XLS file. You will see the title error "Unspecified Error" and "80004005" code. Resolution: Uninstall the Jet Engine pack on your development XP machine if you have Office. It will be listed as something like "Microsoft Access Database Engine (2010)". Run Office 200x setup with the Repair option and reboot. Try configuring the task in SSIS and it should be able to read the Sheet names again and columns.  Live Server (32-bit and 64-bit) Deploying your SSIS package to a server without Office 200x means it will not have the Jet Engine drivers to read XLS, XLSX files. You must install the 32-bit Office Data Connectivity Components - Jet Drivers mentioned above found here  (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7554f536-8c28-4598-9b72-ef94e038c891&displaylang=en). There are no 64-bit drivers; therefore regardless of 32 or 64-bit live environments, this step is the same. You shoul

SSRS Report based on SSAS Cubes doesn't show NULL values correctly

I have a SSRS report which is based on an SSAS Cube. In the Cube the formating of numeric fields that NULL values are properly shown as NULL values. In the Cube Browser and Excel this is shown correctly. However when I design the report already the query against SSAS shows these fields as "0" instead of NULL. Is there a way to fix this or is this a bug ?

SSAS cubes with shared dimensions

Hi, I'm working on a fairly complicated SSAS project at the moment:  - SSAS provides information to 6 teams, which I have modelled as 6 separate cubes.  Each team should not be able to access the other team's cubes.  - Each cube has 4-5 measure groups, with no cross-over with other teams.  - Each cube has approx. 8 dimensions, 5 of which are conformed dimensions, common across all cubes, and 3 dependent on the specific measure groups.  - Each cube has a couple of perspectives set up to simplify the presentation.  - The underlying data comes from a single data warehouse database.  - It's possible that another team may shortly want to develop their own cube.  The data would be completely separate however they would need to use the same conformed dimensions as above. I'm at the starting stage, so I have set up one cube along these lines and am about to work on a second.  My question is, is this the best structure for the project, in terms of both working with it in VS (the data source view is already horribly messy, but I don't think it can be split up?) and also avoiding processing the conformed dimensions multiple times.  If not, what is the best approach to follow to avoid duplication?  Using linked dimensions sounded like the right approach, until I read about how they were then co

How to process just one cube in a solution of three cubes inside BIDS SSAS

Hi, I have a BIDS Solution with three cubes...I want to make a full process of just one of the cubes, but If am doing just one, the other cubes comes unavailable... How can I process just one without affecting the other ones? Thanks!

Implementing Transaction in SSIS Package - [Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "<

I have a simple SSIS package with three "Execute SQL Tasks". I am using ADO.Net Connection to execute SPs on a DB server. When I execute this package It works fine. So far so good. Now, I need to implement transation on this package. And problem starts now onwards. When I try to execute package after setting TransationOption = Required for the Sequence container which contains all the tasks, I get following error. [Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "NYCDB0008.Export". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection. "NYCDB0008.Export" is the name of the ADO.Net connection. I have been hunting for any solution but all in vain. I have tried changing all DTC settings on the dev as well as Database server. Please respond if anyone has any solution. Thanks! Anand

SSIS package failed for huge data

I have created one package to archive database. The target database is around 400 GB data and source db is around 300 GB. I have the Lookup control to check the duplicates in the data. The package is working fine with small amount of data. but it is giving the errors when I am trying to archive some 400 GB of data. Getting the below errors while running the package

1)Communication link failure
2)TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
3)OLE DB error occurred while populating internal cache. Check SQLCommand and SqlCommandParam properties
4)failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC020824E.

Appreciating your help in advance

Excel 2007/2010 - SSAS 2008 R2 Offline cubes

Hi all. I have a question regarding offline cubes (offline data files) in Excel 2007/2010 connecting to SSAS 2008 R2. When I try to make an offline data file in Excel I get a OLE DB error. The server I am trying to connect to is at a hosting partner on a different (but trusted) domain but I have admin rights on it. I then took a copy of the SSAS database and moved it to my own pc and could then create offline data file. I thought it might be a firewall issue on the server and tried turning it off, but the OLE DB error came again. I therefore think that there is something that happens over the network and is blocked by the hosting partner. I probably should tell that I am also SSAS admin, so it is not because of lack of rights on the SSAS that I get the error.

What I like to know if there is anyone who knows this problem or knows what happens when you try to create offline data file against SSAS in Excel? Specifically what is transferred between the client and the server, what ports and are there any programs run or code executed to create the offline cube on the client that might be blocked by typical network/domain settings/rules?

Failed to open package error from SSIS Install Wizard

I'm unable to install a package using the install wizard.  The packages are located in the same directory as the *.SSISDeploymentManifest.  I've been able to do this install on one Server machine, but it won't work on my other Server.  I'm unable to find any setup differences other than one is using SQL2005 32bit and the one that doesn't work is using SQL2005 64bit.

Below is the error I get...

TITLE: Package Installation Wizard

Could not save the package "C:\AlarmPro\Deployment\install 2.1 build3\PKG_LogicOneIntegration_STG.dtsx" to SQL Server "(local)".

Failed to open package file "C:\AlarmPro\Deployment\install 2.1 build3\PKG_LogicOneIntegration_STG.dtsx" due to error 0xC00CE558 "XML document must have a top level element.".  This happens when loading a package and the file cannot be opened or loaded correctly into the XML document. This can be the result of either providing an incorrect file name was specified when calling LoadPackage or the XML file was specified and has an incorrect format.

What type of account is needed for deploying/maintaining SSAS cubes in SSAS 2008 R2

Hi All,

Can someone help in understanding what type of account is needed for deploying/maintaining SSAS cubes in SSAS 2008 R2?

Does one have to be in the local administrators group on the SSAS server? Can a domain group/user (non administrator) be assigned to any role that enables them to deploy cubes etc. If so, what Impersonation Mode will be used from within the dev studio while trying to depoly the project?

Can someone point to any documentation as well. I must not be searching right as I am not able to find an exact information.

Delimiter File Read Task Installer failed to show in SSIS Data Flow Items

I downloaded the Delimiter File Read and followed the instruction and installed it. The file is on the correct directory (>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\PipelineComponents) The file DelimitedFileReader.dll is there.

However, when I go to BI Development Studio and try to add the new task I can't see it in the SSIS Data Flow Items...it is not visible. Does anyone know why I can add/see it?

SSIS failed to acquire connection

I have a couple different SSIS packages that are running on server A and connecting to server B that are receiving the following error messages: "Failed to acquire connection "ServerB". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection."  I am getting this with on OLEDB and ADO.Net connections.  The interesting things is, I get these errors only part of the time.  I am running these packages several hundred times a day.  I am only getting this error 5-10 times a day, around < 5% of the time.  I am running SQL Server 2008 SP1 Enterprise Edition x64.  I have reduced the max server memory a couple times to ensure SSIS has enough memory to operate, but I still seem to get the same error.  There doesn't seem to be a consistent time of day this happens either.  I'm having trouble trying to resolve this, any help is appreciated.

SSAS Standalone just to build cubes?

My company is not currently running SQL Server (much to my dismay). Prior to a few months ago, I was using MS-Query through Excel to build cubes for large datasets for OLAP (with Excel) analysis. Although clunky, this was still working for me. Then they upgraded everyone to Excel 2007 and the new version of MS-Query no longer provides the ability to build OLAP cubes (again to my dismay).

I was wondering if there was a standalone download of SSAS or other (FREE) MS tool that would allow me to build OLAP cubes for analysis with Excel? A google search of "download SSAS" was not helpful. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

SSAS R2 installation failed

Hi Experts,

I installed the R2 trial version with all default features  I have a named instance installed.  Everything seems to be good except SSAS component failed during installation.  I can log on to the SQL server databases in Management Studio, but not SSAS named instance.  Obviously it is because I could not start the SSAS service.   Why is SSAS failing in install ? I had experience installing an earlier version with default instance, everything was good.   is it because I am here installing a named SSAS which could be troublesome?  How do I fix this without removing and re-install everything?

I looked at the log under SSAS directory, here it is:

(11/1/2010 4:37:52 PM) Message: The service cannot be started: The following system error occurred:  The parameter is incorrect.  (Source: \\?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10_50.WW_APRDS\OLAP\Log\msmdsrv.log, Type: 3, Category: 289, Event ID: 0xC1210000)

Can you help please?

Sincerely Thank You !
