How to let user edit selected gridview columns, not entire row

I've got a gridview I would like to let the user edit a couple of columns.  Seems like everything I'm coming across so far makes the entire row editable.

Hopefully the solution isn't too complicated.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

Creating a user limited to a few selected tables.

Hi there!   Im facing some troubles setting up a SQL user for my system. A need to create an SQL User, whom only have read access from the view A, read/write to table B and should not be able to see the remaining tables. I have spent some time on this trying to figure out how the permission system actually works, but I havent found the configuration that actually works. What I have done is created a user without any schemas and roles and under securables granted access to read in A and read/write in B. When I use this configuration I cannot access any tables. If I give the user db_datareader/db_datawriter I can perform all actions on all tables.   Can somebody guide me through how to create a user with these limitations? I'm really stuck.   Thanks in advance, Stig Jørgensen

Tab Control - load user controls in tab dynamically when tab is selected

I have searched the forum and I cant seem to find the answer to my question, although I have tried some of the hints I have found with no luck....

Can someone show me a working sample (with source code) of a page with a TabContainer and several tabs, with each tab having a user control, but the controls are not added/initialized/shown until the appropriate tab is shown/clicked?

Something like this forum's "Write a New Post" page, where the tabs load after I click on them, and an animated picture displays to show that its loading.

The solution needs to add user controls to the page, not just html into a dynamic populate extender.

I have one user control per tab, and is linked (ala master-child relationship) to the page using a property. My user controls perform long-running web service queries, and I dont want to waste database/computing resources loading content into a tab that the user will never look at.   Right now, all tabs load their content when the page loads, even though the first tab is only shown.

As mentioned above, sample code for the page (.aspx and .cs) and the user control (.ascx and .cs) would really help.

Auto populate custom fields with values based on user selected in People Editor

I have a requirement wherein I want to populate the currently logged in user in people editor field of my custom web part and based on the user in people editor field, Also I should be able to select any other user if needed. I need to fill some other custom fields as well. I am able to get this quite easily. But suppose I remove the current logged user's name from people editor and enter some other name and then click on Check Names, then how do I change the custom fields based on the new user ?

    PeopleEditor peNameofFileRequestor = new PeopleEditor();
    TextBox txtPhoneNumber;
    TextBox txtDepartmentName;
    SPContext cnxtCurrent;

    protected override void CreateChildControls()

      cnxtCurrent = SPContext.Current;
      SPUser usrCurrent = cnxtCurrent.Web.CurrentUser;

      peNameofFileRequestor.MultiSelect = false;
      peNameofFileRequestor.SelectionSet = "User";
      peNameofFileRequestor.AutoPostBack = true;

      System.Collections.ArrayList entityArrayList = new System.Collections.ArrayList();
      PickerEntity entity = new PickerEntity();
      entity.Key = usrCurrent.LoginName;
      entity = peNameofFileRequestor.ValidateEntity(entity);

MS Report Viewer not displaing all user selected values, but when testing SQL Stored Procedure & Dat

Hi All,

I resently got some great help on a recent posting of mine.  However now in further testing I've noticed a problem with the postback.  I'm using MS Report Viewer, and when I ran the SQL Stored Procedure, as well as testing the Dataset (xsd), both returned all the variables I inputed manually.  However from the site, the report viewer is only returning 1 or 2 of the 4 variables I submitted.

Here is the Stored Procedure:

ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.GetDownloadDetails_Soft
 (@ProgramName varchar(2000))
SET @x = '<root><x>' + REPLACE(@ProgramName, ',', '</x><x>') + '</x></root>'

FROM Installs
WHERE ProgramName IN (
 SELECT x.value('.', 'VarChar(2000)')
 FROM @x.nodes('/root/x') AS a(x))
ORDER BY StatusDate

On the website, a user selects the programs they want to generate a report from.  Once selected they click on a "Generate Report" button, which does:

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

Choosing Between a User Control or Web Part for SharePoint

SharePoint will only display Web Parts on a page. However, there are publicly available shims that allow you to write user controls and have them be displayed as a Web Part. From SharePoint's point of view, the shim is a Web Part. From the point of view of the user control, the shim is simply a control in .NET that is including the user control

Dropdown list in ASP.NET - How to get value selected

am sure this must be very simple, but unforunately I can't figure it out.
I have the following code which populates the dropdown lists from the database. This works fine. Now, when the user selects a particular employee name from the list, I want to get the Employee Id of the selected employee. i.e. I need to get the "Eid" value. I can do this if the EId is loaded in the dropdown list, but in this case only the employee name is displayed. Please let me know howI can get the Eid value even though it is not loaded in the dropdown list.
I would really appreciate your help

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

How to track the changes of user contacts(colleagues) by using SharePoint API

We might have seen colleague tracker web part which keep tracks the changes made in our contacts/colleagues details like profile/lists/sites. The same tracking mechanism can be implemented by using MOSS API in any custom web part/ web control/ feature/web service...

UserProfile.GetColleagueChanges is the method which returns all changes happened with the contacts, this method also accepts a Query (UserProfileChangeQuery) where we can specify different parameters to filter the changes

Gridview that exports selected rows to Excel

his seems like a messy workaround, but I ended up using two Gridviews - one to display my data and show my checkboxes, and the other which was invisible amd would eventually end up as my Excel spreadsheet.

User Defined Functions in Microsoft SQL Server

User Defined Functions are compact pieces of Transact SQL code, which can accept parameters, and return either a value, or a table. They are saved as individual work units, and are created using standard SQL commands. Data transformation and reference value retrieval are common uses for functions. LEFT, the built in function for getting the left part of a string, and GETDATE, used for obtaining the current date and time, are two examples of function use. User Defined Functions enable the developer or DBA to create functions of their own, and save them inside SQL Server.

Building Re-Usable ASP.NET User Control and Page Libraries with VS 2008

I am having problems with a user control. I want my solution to have a separate project for holding my user controls.

The main project can get a reference to this user control project and can import this user control dll into my main project.

Thanks in advance,

Multiple Instances of User Control

I have a user control that I place on a page severl times.  When I make a selection on a ddl in one one control the SelectedIndexChanged event fires for all the control on the page for that ddl.  So I get duplication of an insert that I do.  Is there a way to make sure these events are isolated so this doesn't happen.

Row command working on all rows not selected one?

I have this code that hides a column in a gridview.  (The column houses another nested gridview).

    Protected Sub GridView1_RowCommand(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewCommandEventArgs) Handles GridView1.RowCommand
        If e.CommandName = "Select" Then
            If GridView1.Columns(0).Visible = False Then
                GridView1.Columns(0).Visible = True
                GridView1.Columns(0).Visible = False
            End If
        End If
    End Sub

The trouble is that if I click the select link on one row that action to hide is carried out on all rows.  How can I set this up so that it only hides the row that is selected?
