Making auto suggestions more appropriate for your textbox

Posted By: Syed Shakeer Hussain     Posted Date: August 24, 2010    Points: 2   Category :Others
To round out my coverage of Input Contexts we need to cover the concept of Input Classes. Put simply an input class is a hint to the Windows Mobile OS as to what kind of information should be entered into a text box (for example an email address, phone number, or person's name).

Selecting an Input Class for a textbox will change the source of data used for the auto suggestions provided by the OS as the user starts typing. For example in the screenshot above you can see the user is typing in a person's name yet the operating system is suggesting matching cellphone numbers.

How to create auto complete textbox

Hello I saw many examples from google. But there are nothing that the textbox is automatically completed by data from database. How can I do this. I like this example http://flux88.com/blog/jquery-auto-complete-text-box-with-asp-net-mvc/  but how can I modify it.

nslookup - suggestions when entering IP address in textBox - output needs to be resolved FQDN

I am looking for suggestions on how to run nslookup (or similiar utility) when an ip address is entered into a textbox.  My ideal goal would it to automatically resolve to the fqdn once you tab out of the textbox into the next field?  I have a form that needs to be posted - hopefully with the newly resolved fqdn!  :)

Any suggestions?

Accessing Auto-Generated Textbox in Gridview

Dear All,

 I have a gridview which has autogenerate Columns Property "TRUE", and i'm dynamically binding this gridview with columns with sql database dataset. there is no data in sql but i am successful in showing blank gridview on form, now i want textboxes in gridview attached with each column, so i wrote code in RowDataBound which generates textbox automatically and assigns ID to each textbox, nw i want to insert that data from textbox to database but i'm not getting text which is entered in those textboxes, as i am accessing that textboxes using findcontrol and passing the id like gridview1_ctl03_text0. but i''m not getting any value from textbox please help??

In short i want to access auto generated textbox (with out any id predefined ) values from footer of gridview ?can any one please help?

Making the Validation Error on TextBox thicker

A few of my users would like the validation error on the textbox to be more prominent.

I have added this to my ResourceDictionary...

<Style TargetType="{x:Type TextBox}">
  <Trigger Property="Validation.HasError" Value="true">
   <Setter Property="ToolTip" Value="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}, Path=(Validation.Errors)[0].ErrorContent}"/>
   <Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="3" />
   <Setter Property="FontWeight" Value="Heavy" />

The text does indeed go heavy on validation, but the red outline stays the same.  I am guessing BorderThickness is not the correct property to set.

  1. What is the appropriate property to set?
  2. Is there a place to look at what the WPF default is for TextBox Validation.HasError?

Incorrect TextBox autocomplete suggestions

I have something that looks like a TextBox bug. It appears when TextBox shows autocomplete suggestions for items which contain dashes "-".

Here is my autocomplete source:

I set it on the property panel. Designer code:

Me.TextBox2.AutoCompleteCustomSource.AddRange(New String() {"34534535345", "-", "----", "11-g", "11--g", "--11j", "1g-", "1gf-asd871-hdaksu", "1gg-", "1-g-o-p-a",

WPF Textbox Auto refresh

Am inserting the data into wpf texbox using for loop. for each time inserting it should display the values in textbox immediately before next insert. now it will display the result once the looping is done. any idea how to implement

Textbox Editable GridView in ASP.NET

This article describes how I made a fully editable gridview in C# using ASP.NET 2. The idea is that the GridView looks and works like an Excel spreadsheet. You see all the cells in the table, and you can edit any of the cells you like, and they are automatically updated (i.e. saved to the database). This is very often how people expect data tables to work in web pages, and I've often seen people clicking in vain on un-editable gridview cells, somehow expecting to edit them, and not understanding that they need to click an Edit button at the end of the row.

Making Ajax Callbacks to the Server Using jQuery with ASP.NET

In the first part of this article series I introduced jQuery's functionality and how it provides a rich client side programming model. This time around I'll expand on these concepts and show you how you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET using it as an AJAX backend to retrieve data. I'll also discuss how you can create ASP.NET controls and otherwise interact with jQuery content from ASP.NET pages in WebForms.

jQuery is just a JavaScript library so it will work seamlessly with ASP.NET both from page code as well as through backend driven code using the Page.ClientScript object or ScriptManager. You can use jQuery on its own as a client side and Ajax library that communicates with ASP.NET or you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET AJAX. The two actually complement each other quite well as jQuery provides functionality that the ASP.NET AJAX library does not and vice versa. For the most part the interaction between the two libraries is trouble free except for a few very rare edge cases.

Highlighting Rows with TextBox OnFocus

In another article I explained that how you can make the rows of the GridView control clickable and highlight them when they are clicked. In this article I will explain that how you can highlight the GridView rows when you focus on the TextBox which is contained inside the GridView control.

Multi-threading in .NET: Introduction and suggestions

This article uses the C# type shorthands throughout - int for Int32 etc. I hope this makes it easier for C# developers to read, and won't impede any other developers too much. It also only talks about the C# ways of declaring variables to be volatile and locking monitors. Developers using other languages can find the equivalents in their own preferred environment, I'm sure.

Custom Editing Behavior for DataGridView TextBox Columns

For various reasons I'm using a DataGridView instead of a ListView, and while configuring the DataGridView to look like a ListView wasn't much of a problem, there's one thing that got on my nerves, which is the behavior of textbox cells in edit mode: It is much too easy to leave the edit mode accidentally, simply by pressing the cursor keys at the wrong time. For example when the text caret is positioned behind the last character of the textbox cell content, and you press the right arrow key

Editable Gridview with Textbox, CheckBox, Radio Button and DropDown List

This is an example of an editable gridview containing different ASP.NET controls. When user wants to edit values in gridview, she/he can use these controls to edit existing values in Gridview Edit Mode.

Using the Code

Making Sense of ASP.NET Paths

ASP.Net includes quite a plethora of properties to retrieve path information about the current request, control and application. There's a ton of information available about paths on the Request object, some of it appearing to overlap and some of it buried several levels down, and it can be confusing to find just the right path that you are looking for.

watermark textbox using Ajax control

This is pretty simple compared to jquery. Since we need refer a dll only. we dont want any script for this. we just include that reference into our website.
