Moving SharePoint 2007 from Domain to a Workgroup

For development purposes, we have SharePoint 2007 installed on a virtual server (Wind 2003) on a company desktop (Vista Business ed.).  The SharePoint is using Active Directory and company domain. For learning purposes, we want to copy the virtual machine on another Vista machine that is outside the domain and is not using AD:

Question 1 : How can we move the SharePoint from a domain to a Workgroup
Question 2: Is it possible to still be able to use emails (through local installation of Outlook) on the same computer that is not on the domain? If, yes, what are the possibilities (any articles on it? Etc.)?

Moving a larger Sharepoint 2007 site collection over to a new server

We have a Sharepoint 2007 site collection roughly 36 GB in size and have been having problems moving the site to a new server farm (Also 2007). We are trying the Sharepoint backup and restore method, but I understand that this method is not recommended for sites over 5GB. Has anyone moved a site of this size and how did you do it?

Thanks  Ron

Moving SharePoint Database to non trusted domain SQL server

We have SharePoint and SQL server in a extranet domain. We would like move the SQL server databases for SharePoint to our corporate SQL server (on the corporate domain).

The Corporate domain does not trust the extranet domain, and thus the web farm account cannnot be specified on the corportare SQL instance. If it possible to migrate the databases to a non tusted domain?

I've seen the script to create a new Config database using SQL authentication

psconfig -cmd configdb -create -server <SQL server name> -database <database name> -dbuser <SQL account> -dbpassword <SQL password> -user <AD user account> -password <AD user password>

Can I edit the config of SharePoint to point to the new SQL server, or do I need to create the entire sharepoint enviromnent again and attach the content databases?

I also have a SSP database that's heavily customised for searcvhing and the BDC. Will this need recreating again or can I move the BDC database  to the new server and attach?

Moving Sharepoint 2007 from Virtual Server 2005 to Hyper-V

I'm a little unsure of the exact sequence to move my Sharepoint 2007 Virtual server from VS2005 to Hyper-V.  In my enviroment, my sharepoint machine and SQL machine are on 2 different boxes.  SQL 2005 is on Hyper-V and Sharepoint is on Virtual Server 2005.  Do I shutdown the SQL VM before I move Sharepoint???   Will the new VM and SQL sync back up without any help??

Also, what happens to the SQL database if the new Sharepoint VM (on Hyper-V) has issues or problems??  Does that make my SQL server

out of sync with my old Sharepoint VM???  I have done multiple moves between VS2005 and Hyper-V so I really familiar with the process.

I usually keep the old VM around for a while after moving just in case there is a problem.   I can always blow away the new VM and crank up the old.   Viola!  I'm back to square one.

Any ideas??

Cannot access SharePoint 2007 site after moving data to another AD domain

We are setting up a staging farm on a test domain. For this we took a copy of the data from production and attached them to staging. In the test domain I created user with same user name as in production but they cannot login. I tried making the user site admin still he cannot access. I hope there is a problem when we move sharepoint data between domains.

I ran the stsadm migrateuser comman with ignoresidhistory and it ran successfully, but still user get access denied message. Is there someway this can be fixed?

For example, we have 2 domains, prod and test. I setup SharePoint farm (same patch level as prod) in domain test and copied all my content databases and attached in test domain sharepoint. The system account in test domain is “test\spadmin”. Now only he can access the new site in test domain.

There was a user “user1” in prod domain and I created a similar user in test domain - “test\user1”. Even after giving him full control on the sites, he gets Access Denied error. I tried creating a new user in test domain that does not exist in prod domain, even he cannot access the site because of Access Denied exception. Is it a limitation of SharePoint that we cannot move data between domains.

PS: We are running MOSS 2007 Ent 64 bit SP1 and SQL Server 2005 SP3. We use NTLM authentication.

The trust relationship between SharePoint 2007 Server and Domain Controller failed after virtual ima

I failed to login to my SharePoint Server 2007 since the virtual image is cloned. The trust relationship between the MOSS and DC failed since the duplication of SID occurred. I tried to unjoin and re-join the Windows Server 2008 but the server just stays at "Applying Computer Setting..." after server reboot.

Thank you for your advice in advance!

How to fix the trust relationship between the SharePoint Server(Windows Server 2008) and DC (Windows Server 2003)?

Deploying custom Web Parts on SharePoint 2007 production server

I would like to develop a custom SharePoint 2007 Web Part for a client. Currently I'm using Visual Studio to deploy my solution to a test environment (since it's a SharePoint Project I choose just Build -> Deploy from the menu). What are the appropriate steps to deploy it to the production server?

I'd like keep it simple and safe (i.e. use the principle of least privilege). Therefore (if possible) avoid using stsadm, achieve this through web interface, or avoid using administrative rights.

Also, can I specify the scope of my Web Part, i.e. choose on which Web Application or Site Collection will it be installed?

sharepoint 2007 server needs to be restarted twice a day???

our sharepoint server needs to be restarted twice a day now - always around 9.30am and 14.30pm.  this has only started in the last 2 weeks.  its working along fine then all of a sudden it goes to a dead page.

i have spent the last week trying to identify what it is.  i have set the logging to verbose and put plenty of the messages in there into google but can not see anything relevant.  the event viewer shows nothing.

i have sp2 installed but no cumalitve updates.  i am wary of installing these at the mo and wreaking the whole thing.  if noone has any suggestions ill install them.  ill list soem details about the problem below.

it doesnt happen on weekends so it must have something to do with users using the system so im thinking something to do with the database (SQL Server 2000).  NB users dont use our sp2007 on weekends.
if i restart iis, the layout of the page comes back but some of the webparts are dead so that doesnt work.
if i resart sql server, that doesnt work either.
there is plenty of room on drives and the task manager is at 20-30% when i check it when the site is down.
only a server resart seems to work.

there are just so many messages in the sp logs that i cant identify what it could be.  is there any other loggi
