Visual studio 2010 and SQL Express 2008 with advanced series

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 11, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi I recently found out that you can only do full text indexing with the advanced series of SQL Express and I managed to download and install it on my machine.

My question is how do I integrate it with Visual studios 2010 so that I can do the full text indexing ?

When I installed SQL Express with advanced series 2008, it created an instance of SQL Server management studio so im wondering if I have to do it there and then move the database into my project or if I can do the full text indexing from inside my project

Anyone's help would be much appreciated

SQL 2008 Express with advanced services and Visual studios 2010

Hi could someone please help me. Im running the following software: SQL 2008 Express R2 with advanced services Visual Studios 2010 Ultimate   I am trying to using Sql in Visual studios to use full text indexing but I am attaching a database that already exists. My problem is that I can use the full text indexing? I had it working once but then when i tried to FREETEXT search through my table it said that I didn't have an index on that table when I know I do cause I went to make sure. I think that perhaps its referencing the wrong database because I cant seem to add the database into my project? I am so confused as to how SQL express instances work so not sure what I am doing wrong? PLEASE HELP?

Windows XP, Visual Studio Express 2010 and SQL Server 2008 Express - How can I save modified columns

Hi,

I am using c# in VS 2010 Express. I have a MDF database that I connect to through "Database Explorer". Database Explorer will not let me SAVE columns that I have modified. As I know in SQL Server 2008 full edition you can change the setting "Prevent saving changes that require table recreation" in Management Console to prevent this. I haven't got Management Console and can't see it in install.

How do I change this setting if I haven't got management console? Is it in Registry or Config File.

Thanks.

John.

SQL Server Express 2008 and Visual Studio Express 2010

Hi,

A few months ago I upgraded to VS2010 - at the same time I thought it would be good to upgrade to SQL Express 2008 R2.

It turned out that there was some compatibility issues between the two - "...cannot be opened because it is version 661. This server supports version 655 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported."  After much trouble I restored the database and have done most of the stuff I need through VS itself.

Now I need to use SQL itself and am positively scared to death of what it could do to my database again.  Can anyone offer any advice - it is a service pack update or something...?

Thanks

John

CSS support in visual studio 2008 express edition

I have several css style sheets I want to work with.  I have copied them into the appropriate directory structure in my project.  The styles are applied correctly.

But the manage CSS styles tool bar on the left margin doesn't seem to work correctly.  At one point I had generated a style sheet and worked with it there, but now it not only can't find the one it generated, but the attach style sheet link doesn't respond at all, nor does anything in this bar.  Same deadness with the CSS Properties bar.  With or without a style sheet loaded in the editor -- a style sheet that is active in the project such that when I run it, the styles are applied.

VB version of studio, running on Vista home basic.

PS, the design mode works a lot better than the professional version I use in my day job on XP and server 2003.

WPF Designer (in VS 2008 and VS 2010) crashes with Visual Studio

Good day all. I have the following question: WPF designer in both VS 2008 and VS 2010 crashes with Visual Studio when I try to edit UI form. Moreover, it crashes even when I try to save .xaml.cs file. Meanwhile, Winforms and Dataset UI editors work as usual. Are there other people met this issue? And how could I fix up this problem? Deleting the .suo file, uninstalling silverlight, repairing visual studio, and further googling did not help me. Thanks in advance.

Visual Studio 2010 - SQL 2008 or SQL 2008 R2

I have just rebuilt my development platform i.e. I ran the Windows 7 Ultimate setup app on an X86 platform followed by a fresh install of Visual Studio 2010 Prof. Using VS I opened up a solution created before the rebuild which includes a connection to an .mdf file. On attempting to connect to this file I Got an error message of the  follwing type. The database '.../XXX.MDF' cannot be opened because it is version 661. This server supports version 655 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported. Referring to this link http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlgetstarted/thread/0a4082a2-793e-42c3-9f68-95041002b4de, leads me to believe that VS2010 uses SQL Express 2008 for database access and that I had been using(unknowingly) SQL Express 2008 R2 during my previous development activities. If that is the case two questions arise :- Why does VS2010 install package install the four 2008 R2 components when I presume that these would also be incompatible with SQL Server Express 2008? Is there a version of SQL Server 2008 R2 - since I assume that R2 is the latest and greatest version - that I can install on my machine and if so how do I tell VS to use 2008 R2 rather than plain old 2008? I hope these questions do not seem like the meanderings of a raddled brain, but any light you can throw on them, would help me gain a better understanding of the relationship bet

Can not connect to user instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services in Visual Studio 2

I used SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services (not SQL Server 2008 Express) in Visual Studio 2010 because it is the fast and easy way to developed and managed data-driven applications with powerful built-in reporting and full-text search functionality. I received Sql Server 2008 Service Pack 1 with Windows Update. It's ok if I connect to instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services (with SP1) through SQL Server Management, but if I try to attach a database in Server Explorer (Visual Studio 2010), I get the following error: "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed." I'm stuck at this point. Is there a fix or a workaround? I've already tried deleting the 'C:\Users\Administrtor\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS' directory as mentioned in other posts, with no luck. Visual Studio 2010 Lab Environment for Student to deploy to a IIS 7.5 web server with SQL 2008

Currently the environment I am trying to create is a teaching lab for Visual Studio 2010 and ASP.NET website development. The intent is to setup an environment where students can create a website with an attached database written with the assistance of Visual Studio 2010. When the website is completed they need to use one of the Visual Studio deploy technologies to upload the website to a locally run server (Windows 2008 R2 with IIS 7.5 running and SQL Server 2008.) I am responsible for setting up the correct deploy technology in Visual Studio as well as setting up the IIS 7.5 deployment server that is running the right version of SQL Server. I have already started this process and figured out how to configure a deployment package in visual studio and have it published on our local server. I am trying to get a very streamlined environment that does not require students have to configure a lot of SQL strings and IIS settings because this is not really what the teaching lab is all about. Just to let you know, we have had  this exact setup using Visual Studio 2008, Server 2003 with front page server extensions on IIS 6.0 and SQL Server Compact edition running on the server. My issue is that since it is now time to update everything there does not seem to be something comparable. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If someone has an idea of the

Error code -2068578304 When Installing Express SP1 x64 as a Part of Visual Studio 2010 Installation

Howdy! I was installing the VS 2010 on my server running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and all of a sudden the setup finished with " Setup completed, however, there were failures reported installing optional components. " The final status is success. The left-hand pane of the finish page reads as: The following component failed to install: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64).   Leaving alone the fact why setup executed the custom action that tried to install SQL Server Express Edition and Compact Edition when I just asked it to install SQL components (which presumably should be SQL SMO and DMO libraries), I would like to understand what had happed to Express install.   Inspecting the .\Logs\dd_error_vs_vstdcore_100.txt file gives the following record:   [09/16/10,16:06:51] Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64): [2] Error code -2068578304 for this component is not recognized. Visual Studio 2008 Express and mobile web development

OK - so I've been using VS2008 Express for a while to develop some web sites etc.

I've downloaded the Mobile Web Form templates that are available as I would like to convert some of my web pages for mobile access.

Where to start ? Where is a good resource to learn how to code some mobile web pages using VS2008 Xpress ??

Thanks

SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer with Visual Studio 2010 Pro always defaults using SQLEXPRESS

I had un-installed SQL Server 2008 Express that came with the Visual Studio 2010 Pro.

I had installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer, and Im able to connect through the Management Studio and Visual Studio itself.

The problem is: whenever I create a new ASP.NET Web Application, the web.config always defaults using SQLEXPRESS.

How can I change this within Visual Studio 2010 so that the web.config defaults to the new database SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer that I installed?

Can not establish a connection to SQL Server 2008 R2 via Visual Studio 2010 Framework 4.0

Hello All, I would appreciate any help with this.

I believe my problem exists within the web.config which already had code in it to connect to SQL Server Express 2008.

I uninstalled the SQL Server Express that came with Visual Studio 2010.

I installed SQL Server 2010 R2 Developer, and I'm able to connect via Management Studio and through Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections I am connected.

I did run aspnet_regsql.exe within the 4.0 folder in order to create the database with Microsoft Service Providers.

Here is the ServerName: USER-5529234649

Here is the name of the DataBase:  StepByStepChapter9

Here is the name of the Connection within Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections:  user-5529234649.StepByStepChapter9.dbo

Here is the code I changed in the web.config:

<configuration>
  <connectionStrings>
      <!--<add name="ApplicationServices"
            connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated   Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|\aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"
            providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />-->
      <add name="ApplicationServices" connectionString="data source=user-5529234649\Step

Deploying SSRS Reports from Visual Studio 2010 to Report Manager 2008

Our Report server is using Report Manager 2008. Previously I would load reports to it that I created via BIDS. Now I have to use VS 2010. I see that I can build and deploy reports there. Can I send it from VS 2010 to the REport manager 2008 on the other machine? I should add that now i have to develop on laptop only before i was on the server.

If not what are my options? I recall that vs 2005 objects were not taken in Report manager 2008.

After Visual Studio 2010 conversion from 2008 pages won't display in browser correctly

I just upgraded to 2010 and converted my VS 2008 ASP.NET web application. There were no conversion errors and everything displays in the Design mode correctly but when I try to View in Browser or debug the site won't display. I just get a blank page untitled page displayed.

Can anyone help me out with this problem?

Thanks.
