Request time out (ping) from other subnet

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 10, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

We have production issue with our sql 2K5 cluster. Our configuration is :

- 2 node IBM x3850 (active/pasive)

  a) Node1 :  IP1 ( with mac address A, 4 nic teamed as public network - but only 1 is plugged into switch, 1 nic for private network
  b) Node2 :  IP2 ( mac address B, 4 nic teamed as public network- but only 1 is plugged into switch, 1 nic for private network

- OS : win 2008 enterprise R2
- DB : SQL 2005 SP3 enterprise
- Cluster Host IP (
- SQL Cluster IP (

SQL Cluster and Users segmented into different vlan. Server vlan is 172.16.0.x then User vlan is 172.16.4.x. Our sql cluster is functioning properly.

But when user accessed from user's vlan, sometimes they got ping request time out and sql general network error. But not from servers vlan. We've checked the switch device, and showed that ARP table for sql cluster ( is changing from mac address A to mac address B. When the active node is node1, and the ARP table points node2's mac address, user got request time out.

Please help. right now the customer shutdown one of the nodes in order to get static ip-mac translation in arp table.

Why my application always complain request is time out??

Below is the configuration file, i didn`t do any modification on it. and i got a very weird situation. first my application run in this way, it was a back end library, every few second, it will send a web request to a central server for information update. but when i test it, after my back end library was launch for a while, it always complain timeout. and cannot send any message to the server. so what is wrong with my application?????  is there anything to do with the configuration file? <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="WSHttpBinding_IEAVService" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" transactionFlow="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" messageEncoding="Text" textEncoding="utf-8" useDefaultWebProxy="true" allowCookies="false"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringConten

Performance - page is being loaded for the first time vs SubSequent Request

Hello, I have some serious performance Issues with  Windows controls loading first time on IE Browser then subsequent request's. When ever i open Browser first time , mywebsite takes 7 seconds to load, but on subsequent request  without closing browser it loads with-in 2 seconds.I Knew IIS on first time it re-compiles the process and for subsequent request's  it wont perform and it cahches .I'm looking for better  options to improve performance,  when ever  first time reqest's  comes to web server. On IIS 7  Server,I was using both Dynamic and Static compression enabled. Also,On application pool ,I set "ShutDown Time(Limit)" and "Startup Time(Limit") to 90 (seconds).Here is web.config i disable below to improve performance issues.   <trace enabled="false" pageOutput="false" />    <compilation debug="false"/>   Here is the Server Configuration Windows 2008 ServerIIS 7 64   bit Upto Date patches..Net Framework  2.0,3.0,3.5   Need   inputs to improve performance when user call website for  first time...

Design time, unhandled exception occured, request is not available in the context

i am using a user control that has the html code with head tag is set to runat server. when i drop this control in main page, i am getting an error in the design time, Error rendering control, unhandled exception occured, request is not available in this context, but at runtime, everything is working fine. i can fix this by removing the ID and runat=server in the head tag, but how to make this to work without removing the runat server for head tag ?.. which request it means that is not available.

i am very new to C#, i hope what i am asking makesence, apologize if i am not clear, i highly appreciate any explanation ! thankyou !...

here is the code present in the user control...

Request time out while using WebClient .Net frame work 2.0

In our application developed in .Net framework 2.0, we have a requirement to download multiple files from WebServer (IIS 6.0) simultaneously, the file count is not defined it can exceed 40 or 50 or more and the file size is less then 1 kb. We are using WebClient to download file one by one and “dispose” it as soon as the file is downloaded.

The issue here is sometime we get “Time out error” for some files and some files are downloaded successfully.

We have already tried setting ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit property but still the issue persists.

SQL Server Query request for start and end period of time

Hi all

I have event table where I need to select records between days. my statements look like

CONVERT(char(8),Event_Table.Event_time,112) BETWEEN 'request start date' AND 'request end date'

The Event_time is DateTime format.

Now everything look fine except from if I need the statement to request the date between as Date_start and Date_End any time it run. The idea is to request a for start and end period of date any time the scrpt run. the script will be run as DOS batch file.

Round off time to the nearest minute

How would you round this up to the nearest minute? There isn't a built in function to do this so you have to use a little bit of maths to get there. There are 60 seconds in a minute. We already have 38 seconds on the clock. So we need to add on 60 - 38 = 22 more seconds.

Performance Tests: Precise Run Time Measurements with System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch

Everybody who does performance optimization stumbles sooner or later over the Stopwatch class in the System.Diagnostics namespace. And everybody has noticed that the measurements of the same function on the same computer can differ 25% -30% in run time. This article shows how single threaded test programs must be designed to get an accuracy of 0.1% - 0.2% out of the Stopwatch class. With this accuracy, algorithms can be tested and compared.

Date and Time Functions in SQLSERVER

Date and time functions allow you to manipulate columns and variables with DATETIME and SMALLDATETIME data types.

2 DATENAME Function
3 DAY, MONTH, and YEAR Functions
5 DATEADD Functions
6 DATEDIFF Function

Data Types - Date and Time in SqlServer

Date and time values can be stored with either the DATETIME or SMALLDATETIME data type. The difference between the two is that SMALLDATETIME supports a smaller range of dates and does not give the same level of precision when accounting for time. The DATETIME data type can hold values from January 1st of 1753 to December 31st of 9999. The time is stored to the 1 three hundredths of a second and each value takes up 8 bytes of storage. The SMALLDATETIME data type can hold values between January 1st 1900 and June 6th of 2079. The time is tracked to the minute and each value takes up 4 bytes of storage. The majority of business applications can live happily with SMALLDATETIME, however, if you are in an environment where each second matters or you need to make estimates to the distant future (or past) then you have to resort to DATETIME. If you fail to specify the time when inserting a value into a DATETIME or SMALLDATETIME column, a default of midnight is used. If you fail to specify the date portion the default of January 1, 1900 is used.

How to programmatically add controls to Windows forms at run time by using Visual C#

Create a Windows Forms Application
Start Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005 or a later version, and create a new Visual C# Windows Application project named WinControls. Form1 is added to the project by default.
Double-click Form1 to create and view the Form1_Load event procedure.
Add private instance variables to the Form1 class to work with common Windows controls. The Form1 class starts as follows:

.NET 4 Web Application Startup Time

I was chatting with Jonathan Hawkins and some of the folks on the ASP.NET team about performance and Jonathan mentioned the startup time for large ASP.NET applications is improved on .NET 4. There are some improvements in the CLR and in ASP.NET itself that helped. If you have a giant app, you should do some tests.

Built-in Functions - Date and Time Functions

Date and time functions allow you to manipulate columns and variables with DATETIME and SMALLDATETIME data types.

Essential SQL Server Date, Time and DateTime Functions

The essential date and time functions that every SQL Server database should have to ensure that you can easily manipulate dates and times without the need for any formatting considerations at all.

Date/Time Conversions Using SQL Server

There are many instances when dates and times don't show up at your doorstep in the format you'd like it to be, nor does the output of a query fit the needs of the people viewing it. One option is to format the data in the application itself. Another option is to use the built-in functions SQL Server provides to format the date string for you.
