Installing SQL 2005 in Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 09, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi,

I'm trying to install SQL 2005 Enterprise 32-bit on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.  I get a message 'This program has known compatibility issues.....you must apply SQL server 2005 SP3 before you run SQL Server...'

Later on (in System Configuration Check), I get 3 warnings:

Installing SQL Server 2005 Enterprise in Windows 7 Professional

Hi

i have Windwos 7 Professional Installed in my computer. also i have installed Visual Studio 2008 as well.

last week i wanted to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition in my computer so i came to know that u need the SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 for this as well.

after obtaining both the Enterprise Edition Setup and the SP3 Setup of SQL Server 2005, i began the installation. first i installed the server. and selected The Server and Workstation components. but when the installation was progressing, it gave a message that the workstation componenets could not be installed and hence only the MSSQLSERVER Service got installed. i take think this so seriously hoping that client tools (workstation componenets) can be installed after the SP3 is being installed. so after the setup completed, i installed SP3 as well. even there, the client tools were disabled.

after SP3 installation and System Restart, i couldnt find Managament Studio; so i again went to the SQL server 2005 setup and selected the client tools to be installed. but just before the installation started, an error message prompted saying that "one or more componenets could not be installed" and then exiting the setup..

please advise what i am missing. i tried the same thing using SQL Server 2005 Standard but the same thing happens.

Merge replication setup with SQL EXPRESS 2005 on Windows 7 Professional

Hi all,

I have a web app that runs on local and use merge replcation using sql server 2005 standard on the server and sql express 2005 on clients on XP. As you know, XP Pro laptops are getting hard to find. We are trying to change to Windows 7 Pro x64. I installed SQL Express 2005 and I don't see a subscription on "Sync Center" after I created local subscription using SSMS. I normally see the subscription in Synchronize in XP Pro right away.

I googled about this issue and not really have a good solution. There is one link saying Windows 7 not supporting Express 2005 anymore. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/repltalk/archive/2010/03/24/using-windows-synchronization-manager-on-x64-to-synchronize-replication-revised.aspx

If so, I would like to know what would be a solution such as can I use Sql Express 2008 R2 instead of Sql Express 2005 for client even if the server is still SQL Server 2005 Standard edition. We are planning to upgrade, but we need to hire 5 to 10 people now. My boss does not want us to keep using XP Pro.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sompop

installing SQL Server 2005 on Windows 7 with Visual Studio 2010 already installed

Last year I had Vista on machine with Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2005 running fine. Last week I decided to wipe the hard disk, install Windows 7 and make the move to Visual Studio 2010. I still need SQL Server 2005 to be able to test code for clients using this.

Anyway, Visual Studio 2010 Professional went on OK. This installed SQL Server 2008 Epxress.

I then try to install SQL Server 2005. I know that there is a compatibility problem, so following advice from other sources, I want to install it without running the server, then install SQL Server 2005 SP3. Then I should be up and running.

The problem is that even though I make sure the 'Start SQL Server' check box is UNchecked, part way through the installation it throws up an error saying it can't start the server and this part of the installation is unrolled.

I've tried running 'setup.exe SKUUPGRAGE=1' which gets rid of the only warning I was getting up to this point, but the setup seems to insist on running the server even though I tell it not to. So I don't get a chance to run SP3 on it.

I wonder if the problem is that SQL Server 2008 Epxress is already installed but can't see an easy way of uninstalling it. It doesn't appear as an uninstall option using the Visual Studio 2010 disk and if I look at uninstall programs I get the f

Cant uninstall Framework Language Pack on Windows 7 Professional

Hi,I have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed on a Windows 7 Professional that has been upgraded from a Windows Vista business. I have a Danish Language Pack installed (Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Language Pack SP1 - Danish). This was installed under Vista. Now I have upgraded to Windows 7 Professional where that language pack is unsupported apparantly. I'm trying to get help in a Windows 7 forum to change the OS language but it seems to fail because multiple MUI's is unsupported in Windows 7 Professional. So I hope someone here can help me remove the Language Pack or something like that...When I try to uninstall or reinstall the Language Pack I get an error saying that the OS isn't supported. What I want is to have my exceptions in English - not Danish. I cannot remove the Framework Language Pack using "Windows Installer Clean Up" because it isn't listed. How can I remove this language pack? Or alternatively instruct the Framework to give me Exceptions in the "en-US" localization?--
