How we Update DataContext's Table Implicitly in Linq using .Net 3.5..?

Hi All.. My problem is i am working on Linq,as we know to use any table in linq we have to drag and drop it on our datacontext's Designer File, and at run time we got its value, till here no any problem, main point is if any changes in respective data source's schema has made ,then on datacontext we will not get that changes, for it we have to change this datacontext manually by by again drag and drop,it will not happen implicitly when this changes has been made on the data source. so please tell me how i solve this problem so that datacontext change implicitly without any over head  using .net 3.5 .

LINQ - Can't perform Create, Update or Delete operations on because it has no primary key.

Hi, not sure if I'm posting this thread in the right section. anyway, I''m trying to do the update/insert/delete using LINQ but the underlying table does not a primary key. The table consists of composite ket (e.g. fieldA & FieldB make a primary key). At the moment, I have LINQ complaning about not having a single primary key (not sure what LINQ does it - not making any sense at all). did anyone ever come across this issue and rectified it?  thanks

How to update List Items with LINQ?

In the code below, the For Each will loop through the list and populate the ListBox.  When I add "item.LeadTime = 5" to try updating an item, Visual Studio says that it is ReadOnly.  Any ideas on what's wrong or missing from the code? Dim spWebUrl As String = SPContext.Current.Web.Url Dim dc As New MyDataContext(spWebUrl) Dim Asgns = From a In dc.GetList(Of AssignmentsItem)("Assignments") Select a.LeadTime, a.Frequency For Each item In Asgns      ListBox1.Items.Add(item.Frequency)      item.LeadTime = 5      dc.SubmitChanges() Next

MS Linq To SQL Samples - Insert/Update/Delete

Hi, I'm stumbling along trying my hand at Linq to SQL and have come across this code below that was provided by MS.http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vbasic/bb737928.aspxThe problem is there is no ".add" method for Categories to chose in the statement db2.Categories.add(newCategory)I've seen similar videos here on ASP .NET that uses code very much like the example below, but I am unable to run this example connected to a Northwind SQL database using Web Developer 2010 Express. This is the One-to-Many example listed under Linq To SQL Samples - Insert/Update/Delete. Thanks for any help! Shawn Dim db2 = New DataClassesDataContext Dim ds = New DataLoadOptions() ds.LoadWith(Of Category)(Function(p) p.Products) db2.LoadOptions = ds Dim newCategory = New Category With {.CategoryName = "Widgets", _ .Description = "Widgets are the customer-facing analogues " & _ "to sprockets and cogs.", _ .Picture = Nothing} Dim newProduct = New Product With {.ProductName = "Blue Widget", _ .UnitPrice = 34.56#, _ .Category = newCategory, _

How to update and delete with Linq?

I use Linq to Entities and want to update and delete data. I know the ID of the object / record.

How can  update and delete without first selecting the complete object (asuming that this is better for performance)?

Linq to entities: Always select before delete and update?

With linq to entities, how can I delete and update data inside a database without first selecting the complete entity at first?
The idea behind this is to improve performance.

How to update value directly in class Object using Linq

I have a class object which is basically kind of hierarchy and looks like this when I convert that to XML.

  	<SKU>SKU 1</SKU>
	<ConfigurationStatus>Not Configurable</ConfigurationStatus>
  			<SKU>SKU 2</SKU>
  			<ConfigurationStatus>Not Configurable</ConfigurationStatus>
  					<SKU>SKU 3</SKU>
		  			<ConfigurationStatus>Not Configurable</ConfigurationStatus>

So you can see that I have "objectComponent" which is kind of hierarchy and that hierarchy can be upto any level.

Now I need to update <quantity> value where <sk

LINQ to SQL query to update based on coma separated field?

I have a field in my sql db with coma separated states, for example  "NY,CA,CT" I need to add a new record for each user that matches one of those states using LINQ to SQL.

Should I turn the field into a list and then loop thru the list? or is there a way to add them all at once?

If my tables is something like this:

UserID: 1
State: NY

UserID: 2
State: NJ

UserID: 3
State: CA

requestID: 1
States: "NY,CA,CT"

then my assigned table should be something like this

UserID: 1
requestID: 1
UserID: 3

User ID 2 is not added because NJ was not part of the request.

THank you

Any way to automatically update/refresh Linq to SQL model?

If I make a change to my database (let's say I add a column to a table), is there any magical buttons that I can click to have my Linq to SQL model update to reflect the changes to my table?  I had to create two additional columns yesterday, and both times I found myself destroying and then recreating the Linq model.

Playing with Linq grouping: GroupByMany?

One of its features is grouping. Many people understand grouping like it is defined in Sql. Linq is implementing grouping quite the same way. Let's discover this syntax and how to make consecutive groups easier.

LINQ : Implementing IN and NOT IN

I got tried of typing

var result = from s in source
where items.Contains(s)
select s;and so I implemented the IN and NOT IN methods as extension methods:

101 LINQ Samples Tutorials

101 LINQ Example with sample code snippets....This sample prints each element of an input integer array whose value is less than 5. The sample uses a query expression to create a new sequence of integers and then iterates over each element in the sequence, printing its value

Linq: how to share parameters between lambda expressions ?

When using Linq to objects, you will quickly feel the need to pass some parameters from a method to another but it's not so easy because each Linq method is not calling the following one. In a Linq sequence, each method is using the result computed by the previous one. So, local contexts are not visible from one method to another.
The compiler is using two technical different ways to let parameters go out of a method.

Linq to Sql CompiledQuery container

Ok now let's go. Here is just a little trick but with some interesting patterns that could be useful in some other contexts not connected to Linq to Sql.

When using Linq expressions, like with Linq to Sql, translating the expression into something else (sql for example) is taking time and resources. Sometimes it's negligible, sometimes not...

LINQ to SQL Paging using GridView in C# and ASP.NET 3.5

ASP.Net Gridview Edit Update Cancel Commands

In ASP.Net 2.0, GridView Control also provides the functionality to edit and update the data retrieved from the database using CommandField template. You can cancel the action using Cancel Command of the CommandField. GridView consists of events that can be used to perform the actions like edit, update and cancel upon the Data items displayed in the ASP.Net GridView Data Control.
