Vertical partitioning

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Horizontal partitioning can be implemented so as to be transparent to the client application.  Is it possible to implement vertical partitioning which is transparent to the client.  We use a third party app that relies on the schema they built and want to implement partitioning to increase performance.

horizontal navigation menu instead of vertical

Hello I'm a newbie and using the internet/publication site type. Is there a simple way to have the Navigation (menu) oriented in a horizontal with dropdown menus instead of vertical? It would also be nice if the horizontal navigation wouldn't not scroll with the rest of the page. Thanks! Partitioning a table in SQL Server 2008

Our application has got few tables which has grown to a larger size. Hence one suggestion put forward is to consider table partitioning. Since this does not involve any code changes in the application, we are looking into this option. 1. Is there any disadvantage if we use table partitioning feature 2. Will table partitioning affect the current indexes that exist on the table? 3. Database mirroring is enabled in our schema. Will partitioning have any effect on this? 4. Any suggestion on how we should try this out?

sql convert vertical table to horizontal (deep to wide)

Hi I have 2 tables, where one holds Name and address information in a wide format, second table is a deep version where i have the records with field names (i.e. Date Of Birth) in the value and then another field with the actual value. I need to merge both tables together to create a new 3rd table and have everything in a wide format, so name and address for one record plus another new column with Date of Birth, so in the end i would just have one row for a person. i am using sql 2008, i dont have any examples to show, which makes it difficult to explain. a visual example would be table 1 id   name  address1      address2  postalcode 100 john    1 anystreet  anywhere  125254 table 2 id  fieldname  fieldvalue 100 dateofbirth  1 jan 1900 100 age         10 100 mobile     123456789 new table should look like table 3 id   name  address1      address2  postalcode   dateofbirth  age  mobile 100 john    1 anystreet  anywhere  125254      1 jan 1900    10   123456789 i have a very large dataset so need something generic and fast as there are lots of different field names so i would need to add th

Different behavior of horizontal and vertical GridSplitter

I'm trying to learn WPF. While it does appear to be quite powerful and flexible, some things are also rather confusing. The GridSplitter is my current headsplitter... Take a look at this XAML: <Grid> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition MinHeight="50"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" /> <RowDefinition MinHeight="50" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition MinWidth="50"></ColumnDefinition> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"></ColumnDefinition> <ColumnDefinition MinWidth="50"></ColumnDefinition> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Button Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" Margin="2">Top Left</Button> <Button Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="2" Margin="2">Top Right</Button> <Button Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="0" Margin="2">Bottom Left</Button> <Button Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="2" Margin="2">Bottom Right</Button> <!-- <GridSplitter Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Grid.RowSpan="3" Width="3" HorizontalAlignment="Center" /> --> <GridSplitter Grid.Row="1" Gri

Add a vertical Line somewhere in the middle of line chart ?

Hello, We have a line chart in SSRS 2005 with dates across the x-axis and dollar amounts on the y-axis for three different series. The dates run from the past through the future and we need a vertical line drawn at the current date from the x-axis to the top of the chart so the users can easily see where the data lines cross the current date. For the life of me I can't figure out how to create this line. The closest I have been able to achieve is moving the y-axis "cross at" property to the current date, which moves the y-axis labels to the current date, but no line appears.  I believe in SSRS 2008 I could programmatically position a vertical line image in the graph, but the documentation seems to indicate this cannot be achieved in SSRS 2005 charts, only other report items. Any ideas how I can add a single vertical line to the chart at a specific position am I missing something simple ? Thanks, Mark

Vertical centering for popup

I have a hyperlink control that opens a popup window. I need for the popup to be placed to the left of the hyperlink and to have the hyperlink be at the vertical center of the popup, like this:   ======= |    pop    | |     up     |  hyperlink | window  | =======   I can get the popup over to the left of the hyperlink just fine, but I can't get the middle of the popup to align with the hyperlink. I tried offsetting by half the height of the popup, but it didn't work unless I manually specified the height of the popup, which I can't really do due to the dynamic nature of the content. Any ideas?
