I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 onto Windows Server 2003 Small Business Edition. Previously SQL Server 2000 from the SBE disk was installed, automatic updates are enabled.
I have selected the default instance and everything I try results in the error:
An instance with the same name is already installed on this computer. To proceed with SQL Server Setup, provide a unique instance name.
Log file says;
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------MachineÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ : ISAINTERNET ProductÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ : Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Product Version : 9.00.1399.06 InstallÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ : Failed Log FileÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ : C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files\SQLSetup0002_ISAINTERNET_SQL.log Last ActionÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ : DetectInstanceClash Error StringÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ : An instance with the same name is already installed on this computer. I can't get R2 Express (x64) installed from the command line... x86 using this same command line works fine, just x64 is broken.
/q /ACTION=Install /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD="MyStrongPassword" /INSTANCENAME="SQLEXPRESS" /FEATURES=SQLEngine,Replication,SDK /SQLSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE" /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="MyComputerName\MyUserName"
Everytime it fails with:

2010-09-19 15:30:48 Slp: --SafeSqlCommand: ALTER DATABASE tempdb SET NEW_BROKER ALTER DATABASE msdb SET NEW_BROKER

I'm trying to upgrade my management studio to the full version, I uninstalled Express edition and started the install for the full version, but I get an error stating "you cannot install this component because it is already installed". I had a word with one of the guys in the office and he said the only way he's ever been able to get round this is by flattening the entire PC and starting again. Obviously I want to avoid that!
I have a requirement to use free source database so i have choosen Sql server 2005 express edition which is available for free. Now can I install this on a linux platform and use it as a server.Does it require any tools or drivers to install on linux
and to work as if on windows pc?
Can anyone please help me on this? Any help is much appreciated.

Please help.. Thanks in advance
I just installed SQL Server 2005 64bit on a fresh system with no other applications loaded on running on the new server.
The only other component that was installed with the SS2K5 database services is SSIS. The base installation and the SP2 patch went on perfect.
I went looking for the Management Studio thru the Start menu options and it is NOT under the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 group. The only options under the SS2K5 group are "Configuration Tools" and "Docs and Tutorials".
Here are file names that I downloaded from the MS website and installed.
ÃÂ ÃÂ SW CD SQL Svr Enterprise Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #1 x64 MLF.x11-57796 (which is a zipped)
ÃÂ ÃÂ SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-x64-ENU
There was also another zipped file that I tried to install but it seems to be a duplicate of the zipped file above:
SW CD SQL Svr Enterprise Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #2 x64 MLF.x11-57797
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
According to edition requirement (http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2009/03/23/requirements-for-installing-sql-2008-standard-edition-for-small-business.aspx),
I thought I met the requirements but this link tells me not only I need both the standard edition AND in a domain?? I have Windows 2008 Standard R2 edition.
This is a standalone server and there's no domain. I can promote it to be a domain controller but don't want that. Is it the "R2" part that its failing. I can downgrade to the non-R2 with SP2. (Windows Server 2008 with sp2).
I have develop a Delphi tool that allow to manage enterprise timesheet.
This application is used by multiple different user in an enterprise.
The tool can run under SQL Server 2000,2005, 2008 (express or not).
In my SQL queries within my application, there is a lot of "INNER JOIN", "OUTER JOIN" that is quite universal.
But there is also some "ISNULL(?,!)", "CASE WHEN ... .THEN ... ELSE .. .END".
I want to have a "free trial" version of my tool.
I can't ask my users to install SQL Server (it is a free trial).
I am not able to use SQL Server Compact Edition because I need a multi-computer connexion (each different employes of a company access the tool).
I dont really like ACCESS because there is some standard not respected (varchar datatype do not exist, memo field is not easy to manipulate compare to varchar(2000), CASE WHEN dont work, I have to make weird query junction with parenthesis when there is
multiple table, etc...etc...etc...).
My question : WHAT CAN I DO! I dreamed of SQL Server Compact Edition allowing multiple concurrent connexion and handling tables. Or SQL Server Express without install.
Is there a solution to this?
