Random NET 3.5 SP1 install problems

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

We are having a hard time deploying the .NET framework 3.5 SP1 to our imaged machines.  We are using MDT 2010 to deploy our Windows XP SP3 machines.  After the machine is imaged part of the MDT process is to install the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.  We are using the full-file installer with the /q /norestart switches.  Now this is the strange part.  On two identical machines with the exact same image the install will work fine on one and will not install on the other and fail with error code 1603.  I have pulled the logs from a failed machine but have no idea where to start looking in them.

We used to have the 3.5 SP1 framework installed into the image before it was sysprepped but we found that after sysprep was ran the Enterprise Services would not function and we had to run a repair of the 3.5 SP1 framework.

Can someone take a look at the logs from my failed machines and tell me which part it's failing on?  Or why it works on one machine but not the other when they are identical?

Problems with SSRS 2008 Install when configuring a back-end database on a SQL Server 2008 R2 environ

We are tyring to configure SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS 2008) not the R2 version with a SQL Server 2008 R2 version of database. We are facing error when the configuration manager within SSRS tries to execute its scripts against the database. Do you think that SSRS 2008 may have trouble using a SQL Server 2008 R2 version as the back-end? Also, what kind of permissions does the ID installing SSRS needs to have on the SQL Server database ?  Not much is available in the documenation or online.

Vista and SS Management Studio Install Problems

Hi, I'm running the Vista Beta 2 (x64) and am trying to install SSMS.  This is more or less a clean Vista install (had VS Web Express and SQL Server Express installed but those have been uninstalled).  The SSMS install comes up ok and I can enter my name and company.  It chugs along for a while and then fails.  This is what is in the event log: Product: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express -- The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 29506. The arguments are: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\, chue, C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\, chue I thought maybe I had a bad install file, so I cleared my browser cache and re-downloaded the SSMS install, but the results are the same. As a side note, I am able to install the db engine (SQL Server Express SP1) without any problems. Any thoughts on this?

Install problems - think I've messed things up!

I'm trying to install the express 2008 R2 version.  I have successfully installed this programme once but realised my predecessor had already installed a previous version.  When I opened my version, everything was setup already so I thought I'd just uninstall everything and install again.

3 hours later and I'm no closer to finding a solution.  I had issues where I couldn't delete files as they were being used.  I overcame this and thought I'd managed to delete everything but I don't think I have.

When I try to install using setup again, nothing seems to be happening.  Here is a copy of the log - please help!!

Thanks in advance.

I am trying to populate an array with 9 random numbers but having some problems.

The first problem I am having is that it populates every cell with the same random number.  How do I get it to create a new random number?  The second problem is that I need to make sure each entry in the array is unique.

Here's my code.  Does anyone see the problem?

Dim UsedCards(5) As Integer
   Dim intRandomNumber As Integer
   Dim X As Integer
   Sub Page_Load()
   End Sub
   Sub DealCards()
    UsedCards(0) = GetRandomNumber(1, 52)
    UsedCards(1) = GetRandomNumber(1, 52)
    UsedCards(2) = GetRandomNumber(1, 52)
    UsedCards(3) = GetRandomNumber(1, 52)
    UsedCards(4) = GetRandomNumber(1, 52)
   End Sub
   Function GetRandomNumber(ByVal intLowLimit As Integer, ByVal intHighLimit As Integer)

Top .NET Performance Problems and how to avoid them

Every time I work with one of our .NET customers to help them with managing their application performance I come across the same problems as seen with other clients before: lots of ADO.NET queries, many hidden exceptions in core or 3rd party .NET libraries, slow 3rd party components, inefficient custom code

Generate Random Numbers

SQL Server has a built-in function that generates a random number, the RAND() mathematical function. The RAND math function returns a random float value from 0 through 1.

Visual Studio 2008 Memory problems

My memory in task manager reaches about 900,000K  and I don't know why it does this. Definately slows everything down, especially when I rebuild my tableAdapters, takes about 30 seconds sometimes to rebuild the project.

SqlServer - Windows Account to install Application from Gallery

Referring to this tutorial: http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/tutorials/download-and-install-an-asp-net-application

I selected umbraco cms and got this wizard:

I already have Standard Sql Server 2005 on my machine which I wanted to us for above DB and not SqlExpress.

I did not remember "sa" account pwd nor I use explicitly any account to connect to my Sqlserver. I use Windows Authentication account i.e implicit authentication. So I created new account and gave all rights and used it in the above wizard and was able to install the database after some struggle.

My question is: What if I want to use my Windows Account to install the database above? Why the wizard don't have any option to use Windows Integrated Authentication?

Note: I can create the DB with external user I created, just looking specifics for using Windows Authentication for above installation.

Problems with Forms Authentication in DD 4 site

Hello,  I am seeing a strange problem with Forms Authentication in my DD site.   A user logs into and can view/edit/delete data all day, but when they execute a Custom Filter against data (for example , a control DynamicData/Filters/CustomerLastNameSearch.ascx ) then the site auth fails, and redirects to the log in screen.

in web.config I have

     <authentication mode="Forms">
            <forms name=".Star" loginUrl="~/Login.aspx" protection="All" defaultUrl="~/Default.aspx" path="/" timeout="43200" cookieless="UseCookies" />

Offhand, I am thinking two things : that DynamicData/Filters path requires some special handling for some reason, or the control extension ascx is causing auth to get confused.   Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?  Thanks!

VWDE 2010 Won't Install Ajax Control Toolkit on XP Pro

To my displeasure I cannot find VWD2005 which at one time would generate a complete web.config for Ajax so I downloaded and installed VWDE 2010 to a clean install of XP Pro.

I've created a new tab on the toolbar for the controls but after I select the Ajax dll to add the controls to the toolbar it grinds away and then goes poof and closes down the task leaving VWD look as if I had never even created the tab in the toolbar.

Any advice here?

Problems posting to a package

Hey Y'all

I'm currently creating a program that accesses a mysql package to add data to a few tables.  I'm currently getting an error that says  "

ORA-01403: no data found
ORA-06512: at "JESSE.PKG_WORKPLAN", line 42
ORA-06512: at "JESSE.PKG_WORKPLAN", line 177
ORA-06512: at line 1

These lines are

and 177:add_team_members(V_PROJECT_ID, V_START_DATE, v_FISC_YEAR, V_MEMBERS ,V_NUM_MEMBERS,'add');

Checking these variables in my asp.net page they are all receiving parameters.

Is there a  way to see what the database is actually receiving from the asp.net page?

Or is there another thing to be looking at?

URL Routing and Existing HttpHandler problems

Hello everyone,

I have a problem:

I am currently using 2 features:

1. HttpHandler

Registering the path="res.aspx" verb="*"

2. URL Routing:

Registering with this pattern: "Company/Edit/{*companyId}","~/CompanyEdit.aspx"

In my CompanyEdit.aspx page, I used httphandler res.aspx to generate some images at client.

  • res.aspx?img=1
  • res.aspx?img=3

Now the problem is here, the page is load success with companyId = "12345", but when the images was loaded at client, it loaded the CompanyEdit.aspx again and show error with wrong id.

I have debug and find the problem that because when image's urls were generated to client with url=res.aspx?img=1, url=res.aspx?img=3, the asp.net will understand that they are Company/Edit/res.aspx?img=1, Company/Edit/res.aspx?img=3 when it maps with URL Routing pattern.

=> So the CompanyEdit.aspx was load again with wrong id (id now is "res.aspx").

So, do you have any ideas to solve this problem, or other design.

Thanks, and best regard
