Installing and Uninstalling Services

Posted By: Rahul     Posted Date: October 06, 2009    Points: 2   Category :.NET Framework
Installing and Uninstalling Services.Unlike most projects you create in Visual Studio .NET, Windows Service projects cannot be run directly from the development environment by pressing F5. This is because the service in the project must be installed before the project can run.

You can quickly install your service application by using a command line utility called InstallUtil.exe.

Error installing SharePointRS (Reporting Services AddIn)

I trying to install the SharePointRS AddIn on the SharePoint-Maschine. The installation runs and after the setup does something, it rollback the installation and informs me with just a message, that it was not successful. After searching for the installation log, I've found it in my temp folder. The error was:

Installing reporting services 2008 on machine that already has reporting services 2005

Hello everyone

I'm a novice when it comes to installing sql server and I would like to install reporting services 2008 on a machine that already has reporting services 2005 installed on it. This is a machine used for developing reports and is not used as the report server. I want to be able to develope reports in both BIDs 2005 and BIDS 2008.

I ran the sql server setup and when it comes to the screen that allows you to select the components to install, I noticed that you could create a new instance for reporting services 2008 but BIDS comes under the share components section.

If I was to select this option, would it over-write/upgrade BIDS 2005. Could someone please point me in the right direction on how to have a side by side installation of reporting services 2005 and 2008 including BIDS for both versions?

Reporting Services not working after installing .Net 2.0 SP2

I have a SharePoint 2007 site that connects to some reports in Reporting Services. SQL Server 2005. I went to apply the security patch KB2418241 that requires NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 to be installed first. Everything was working fine.

After installing NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 the Reporting Services reports stopped working. Now, when I access the reports I get the following error message.

An unexpected error occured while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

Also, I see in the logs the following error.

Error installing a second instance of Analysis Services

I'm currently running SSAS2008 R2 on a a default instance. I've attempted to install a second instance, and while it successfully completes and the service starts up, I can not connect via management studio.

I receive these errors after the install:

-Failed to initialize SQLSQM timer. One of the following can be the source of the problem: registry doesn't contain all necessary information, server instance name can not be retrieved correctly, failure during timer creation, etc.

-The file '\\?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10.ADSERVICES\OLAP\Data\CryptKey.bin' could not be opened. Please check the file for permissions or see if other applications locked it.

I've tried several things to fix, including:

-Copied CryptKey.bin from another server

-Downloaded the iso again, thought it might be corrupted

-Installed 2008 (not R2), same error

I'm absolutely stuck, it seems like there is something else in play here.

Any ideas?

Getting Started with Windows SharePoint Services

Of all of the capabilities of SharePoint, I thought I would start with the most basic installation - as a corporate intranet. It is likely that we will need to discuss some of the elements of SharePoint as we go along, so this also gives us the opportunity to review these elements for future reference.

Before going into too much detail, I would like to point out that you can try the core SharePoint framework (known as Windows SharePoint Services or WSS) for free. On Microsoft's Web site you can download a trial version of Virtual PC 2004 (VPC). Using VPC, you can install the Windows 2003 Evaluation Kit and the WSS add-on. This combination will give you 45 days to evaluate the setup.

Building a Searchable Phone Directory with Windows SharePoint Services

I want to continue to build out the intranet site we've started in our previous articles. A standard item in every intranet is a staff/employee list. Most companies implementing Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) are large enough to have a database that contains all employees. We will use the aggregation features of SharePoint to include data from this database into our intranet.

Building a 3-Tier App with Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Azure Table Storage

Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Windows Azure Services Platform makes a 3-tier Cloud application easier to build: Silverlight 3 as presentation tier, .NET RIA services as the business logic and data access tier, and Windows Azure Table as the data storage tier. The sample application in this article demonstrates the architecture with a simple Survey application with all these technologies working together from Windows Azure.

New Features in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3.0) is the next version of WSS 2.0, released on 2007, and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007) is built on top of this. Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 takes full advantage of Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 and the core Microsoft .NET 2.0 runtime. WSS 3.0 offers a lot of new features and programmability support. I have consolidated a list of new features and enhancements in the below section:

Installing and configuring SharePoint 2010

The following steps show how to install SharePoint 2010 on VMware workstation 7.0. Host computer used during the preparation of this walk-through was a Vista (32-bit) machine and guest machine used was VMware workstation 7.0 with Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (64-bit).
