We have been working with the managed meta data service all the way through the Sharepoint 2010 beta cycle and have created a number of taxonomies to help us manage the system data
and create a sort of VIN diagram to allow us to execute searches and always retrieve all the specific information we've needed to populate all the webparts on our pages. This system has content creation in it and a publishing aspects (goes from
private collaboration to public side consumption).
We've been making great progress and were really looking forward to rolling out this new system utilizing a fully faceted taxonomy and navigation. It has reduced our coding
and management greatly. This was looking really good, that is, until we got the RTM and see that MS has basically deprecated Managed meta data in office clients and essentially shot the product in the foot limiting the value of the managed meta data
system. As you can tell, I'm a little (understatement) t-offed at this. We put a lot of work into it and were able to create a really cool dynamic system that the client was loving.
