I'm considering purchasing Sharepoint 2010 for a home educational web site that will aggregate a lot of content and multi-media to a web front-end for search and browse. Sharepoint 2010 has all these features. A couple of basic questions I'm hoping
someone can answer:
1. If I use a hosting service to run Sharepoint Server and any associated search services, will I need anything else besides the Sharepoint Designer on my end? I won't be adding any custom forms, business objects or web parts - my assumption
is to try to use all the OOB features to design the whole thing. Unclear to me if Sharepoint Foundations or any other developer tools MUST be installed somewhere to run Sharepoint regardless.
2. Could I design and run my basic Sharepoint site from a mini such as an HP 210, which uses Windows 7 Home Starter? The Server component clearly requires SQL, search services and other horsepower, which I assume would be handled by the hosting service.
If Designer is all that's needed to design the front end of the website and any content forms, then the hosting service would be where files are posted and the laptop system requirements might be fairly minimal. But I don't know what Windows 7
Home Starter would be missing to run the 'client' part of the Sharepoint design stack.
The sharepoint My Sharepoint Sites list will not update. It last updated with the results from 4/22/10. I determined that by looking in out Share Sevices Administration database in the memberGroup table. It shows current entries for
everything prefaced by Mailto: So the distribution groups are updating however, nothing is updating for the actual sites. New sites have been added since this time and Membership in the Members group of these sites has changed as well
but none of these changes have been reflected i nthe My sharepoint sites. These changes also do not appear in the My Memberships portion of someone's My Site. Any suggestions?
We are running Sharepoint 2007 SP2 with W.S.S. 3.0 on a Windows srver 2003 R2 SP2 server. No changes were made to the system on the date in question. Perhaps 3 new team sites has been added in the days leading up to the problem.
We see no errors in any of the timer jobs or the event logs that appear related to the issue.
I'm currently busy with an overview of Best Practices for developing accessible web sites in SharePoint 2007. After a little research I have noticed that the challenges I have faced so far are mostly XHTML/CSS/JS related and there are actually very few SharePoint 2007 specific issues: this has to do with the fact that we use very little to none of standard SharePoint controls in the Internet facing web sites we deliver.
As I would like to share the Best Practices I'm writing with the community I've been wondering whether you have tried to develop an accessible web site in SharePoint 2007 yourself and faced any challenges you would like to share. To make myself clear I'm looking for issues and challenges and not solutions in particular (these are welcome as well by the way).
I have a a list that recieves email. I have few fields that shows me the originator: "E-Mail From" and "E-Mail Sender".
I am trying to create a workflow that will generate an auto reply to the originator but the SPD fails to recognize the email address in these two fields. It's either truncating part of it or uses the html ( href=mailto:Demo@DemoSomething.com) in
the To field.
I have a document content type and a library which contains this content type. here is what I want to do:
- when user creates a new document in this library, he will enter some user names with people picker and then a message including some columns of the content type will be sent to that users. And then, at a certain
date (lets say 1 day before a date that is one of the site columns) another email, a reminder will be sent.
I havent been able to find :
1- how can I replace a people picker field on workflow initiation form and how can I make it sent email to the user.
2- How can I make it sent a reminder email 1 day before the date that is stored in one of the columns of the content type(current item)
any help would be welcome,
i created a dataview for a user table to insert new records. now i have to use a dropdown list that get data from another table. to insert in my user table. in the user table only the code is stored. but i need to get that code description that is in another
table in my dropdownlist to choose from in my dataview.
how can i do this in sharepiont designer2007?
I am modifying a SharePoint site and so far so good. Some of the objects were created using Visual Studio 2008 (C#). I was able to modify these objects and implement them on the targete machine without issue. The final step is to implement
the ASPX pages that were modified using SharePoint Designer 2007. These are aspx pages that are used to modify items in lists. All the pages involved in this upgrade are customized. I need to upgrade the target site with the modified version
of these pages. My intent is to copy the code from the page in the source site and past it into the same page on the target site. I tried using the Remote Web Site connection tool in SharePoint Designer 2007 but received the following error message:
"Unable to open 'https://(site address)'. Server Error: Could not find a Web server at 'website'. Please check to make sure that the Web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly. If you are sure that everything
is correct, the Web server may be temporarily out of service."
I am not sure how to first check to see if the Web Server is temporarily out of service. I would appreciate your input on how to verify this.
Background information of target machine: WinServer 2008, IIS 7, Sharepoint (MOSS2007), site on port 80
Suddenly sharepoint designer decided today that it doesn't want to insert a custom list form anymore...
To be more specific, it doesn't work anymore in a site that uses the Microsoft budgeting and tracking template. In a website that uses an out of the box template, it still works.
It did work before, because I did it in other websites using the same template (it's broken there as well now).
Why oh why does SharePoint refuse to do this now?
I searched google and here on the forums, but all I could find was some issues after installing SP1, but we did that already long time ago and it was still working after that. I checked with our infrastructure guys and they didn't install new updates they
I also tried the solutions listed here:
But they don't fix the problem.
So my problem is, I can go to Insert > SharePoint Controls > Custom List Form
I pick my list, content type and form type, I hit OK and... nothing happens.
I have a fairly complex SharePoint Designer 2007
Data View they have added two more requirements.
1. Have the columns on the right side be able to scroll left to right as there is a large number of columns, while the first 3 columns on the left side stay locked in place. This is only one list not two, and because of some other requirements
I have it must remain to be just one list.
2. Then they also need to have scrolling up and down of the entire list with the headers locked in place.
The first requirement is more important than the second, but preferrably I need to do both.
I am new to XSL so not familar with the syntax. Is this something I can do on a custom Data View? Does anyone have any examples of how?
I have a drawing that show how it needs to look but I don't see an option here to upload a graphic.

I am using a list in SharePoint; when the list is updated, I want to display "UPDATED w/ Date and Time". I cannot figure out how to display the Local Afghanistan time vice UTC or Zulu time. I am trying to figure out what to add in to change
the time displayed +4:30 hours. I am currently using the following code in XSLT with SharePoint Designer:

i'm trying to create a data view with the edit, delete and insert function.
the edit and delete works fine. only the insert gives me this error:
The data source control failed to execute the insert command.
