Editing SharePoint forms in Word Document with InfoPath

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a SharePoint library on a MOSS 2007 server with six metadata columns. When a document is saved, a workflow populates five of those columns. However, when a document is open, the user can see all six of those columns (when they only need to enter data into one). I figured out how to edit the form that appears in Microsoft word using Infopath. However, I don't know how to get rid of the fields I don't want users to see. If I delete those fields in the form, the workflow gives an error.

Does anyone know of a good resource that explains editing these forms that show up in a document using Infopath?

InfoPath / ActiveX error when using person selector field in Word template off SharePoint document l

I have created an out-of-the-box document library on a SharePoint 2010 site.  I left Microsoft Word Document selected as the Document Template.  I then added a person or group column and a multiple lines of text column to the document library. I then went into Library Settings --> Advanced Settings and clicked on Edit Template, opening the template in Word.  I created my template and added the two new columns to the document.  I did this using the Quick Parts --> Document Property --> [column name] feature under the Insert tab in Word.  I then saved the template back to SharePoint. Upon opening the template or creating a new document from the template, I get the following dialog box: --------------------------- Microsoft Office InfoPath --------------------------- One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1) Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page, or 2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the controls. As a result, the page might not display correctly. --------------------------- OK   --------------------------- I've searched around (I believe fairly extensively) and have not run into anyone else with the same issue.  Some have mentioned a similar error when creating a custom document information panel in InfoPath, and suggested lowered ActiveX security setti

Sharepoint 2010: Browser compatible infopath forms are not open in web browser for editing

I created a browser enabled form with InfoPath 2010. I then published the form by selecting the option "Publish form to a SharePoint library" and then selected "Form library" and finally selected "Create a new form library". As a result, a new form library was created. When I click on "add document", the browser opens a new form, which I can fill and save successfully. However, after the form is saved, whenever I click on the form name in the form library to edit it, the browser "opens with" dialog box opens, asking for an XML editor software. In other words, the form does not open in browser for editing even on systems that do not have InfoPath installed.

The form is browser compatible and the form library is configured to open browser-enabled forms in browser. The issue is that the form hyperlink is directly pointing to form XML file rather than pointing to InfoPath form services URL.

I would really appreciate, if someone tells me how I can edit the form in browser.

SharePoint Designer Workflow Activity to generate Word Document from Infopath xml

I am considering the follow implementation.

I have a workflow that user fills out to get funding and once approved (via workflow) I want to at the end of the approval generate the letter dynamically based on the values out of the infopath form.

Now I am thinking of the following solutions.

A custom activity where you point it to the word document to use and then set the fields out of the infopath that you want transfered into the word document.

Is this going to be even possible.

The type of data I have is fields from lookup, people pickers, text, curreny etc.

Is there another option maybe having a document lib with these fields as text and create new item in it and move these values into there (is that possible via designer?)

The document has to be able to be easily editable by the end user to change the template and also to be able to edit the actual document once created.

Any help would be great.

Document is read-only in SharePoint, but user sees "check out" option in Office 2007 / Word / Excel

I am finding that when there is a document library in SharePoint with checkin/checkout required, if a user with read-only ("Visitor") permissions opens a document from that library, the document will open as read-only in Word, Excel, etc., but the user will see the "Server Document" bar with the message "To modify this document, you must check it out" and the "check out" button.  When the user tries to check the document out, they are asked to authenticate, and then receive the error "Cannot perform this operation.  The file has been deleted or someone else has it checked out."    How is it possible to prevent a user with read-only rights in SharePoint from seeing the "Check out" option in Word or Excel?

Word 2010 Crashes When Editing Server or Document Properties

I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if this is a bug. We are using Metadata in our SharePoint 2010 implementation and I have linked this to the various document templates. If the template is a docx or dotx extension then, in a document library, going New Document and editing the Server or Document Properties causes Word to crash. Document templates based on .doc extensions work fine. Once the document has been created you can edit the properties but obviously this isn’t the best process. Does anyone have any advice on this? Thanks Neil

import data from infopath xml forms to SharePoint list

Hi. I have this issue, a customer has an old application that consists of a SharePoint 2003 site and a 'forms library' with forms listing information about physical servers. The infopath (2003) form is pretty straight forward and has a few dropdowns from lists and so on. Now, we need to move this to 2010 and preferably to a list only using oob functionality. I would like to know if anyone has a clue as to how I can get the data from the hundreds of xml files into a list, could be to excel and then to SharePoint, or any means Necessary. I would prefer it if it can be scripted or done using standard tools from Microsoft, no 3rd party custom xml importer...(if it's not really good and free :-) ) ThanksThomas BalkestÃ¥hl - Technical Specialist - SharePoint

Urgent: InfoPath Forms on SharePoint and SQL Server

I'm very new to using InfoPath but we recently upgraded to SharePoint Enterprise 2010 and we would really like to take advantage of the new InfoPath Form Services that's available with this version of SharePoint. I need to know if it's possible to build a form that gets data from a Microsoft SQL Server, and also when that form is submitted it will need to populate a table on our Microsoft SQL Server. This form will also need to be published on SharePoint so our users can fill out the form directly from there. Is this possible? I've been trying to figure this out for almost a week now and can't seem to get very far at all- it's very frustrating.

If it is, what would be the first steps that I need to take? I thought it was as simple as building a form in InfoPath2010 and just publishing it to SharePoint but I get the feeling that I need to upload some type of data connections to SharePoint Central Administration?

How to enable Word 2010 to save to one of the document libraries on a newly installed Sharepoint Ser

I have a newly installed Sharepoint Server 2010 (say, http://spserver/) somewhere on our LAN on Windows Server 2008 R2. And I am working with Word 2010 on my Windows 7 machine. I have created a Document library somewhere in a subsite of the Sharepoint server (say, http://spserver/subsite/doclibrary)

Now, working with Word 2010 I want to simply save the document that I'm working into that document library Doclibrary. I go to Word 2010 backstage... and can't find anything there.

1) Save As? It only shows my file system...

2) Save & Send? I see there Save to Sharepoint. But Browse for Location button gives me nothing. If I press Save As here, I just get my file system again.

What should I configure on Sharepoint server or in my machine, so that I can save to my doclibrary with as few clicks as possible, just like I always did with my local file system.

SharePoint 2007 Content Deployment Word Document URLs being changed

We created an application that leverages on SPExport and SPImport.

We noticed that when we export/import site, the links on the word documents pointing to same application on the target site seems to get truncated url, the url parameters (ie ?param1=a&param2=b) are truncated.

also the host header seems to get updated ie(http://my.shop.com/path1/path2 turns to like (http://hostheader/path1/path2) which is causing broken links.

need some help/advice/ suggestion.

Thanks a lot

infopath template on wss2.0 sharepoint site has been deleted - how to open infopath forms?

Hi All

Is there any way to open infopath forms (from a sharepoint site) if the template has been removed?

I have a case where infopath forms (xml files) have been saved to a sharepoint site, but the templates (xsn files) have been deleted.

Some users are still able to open the infopath forms and I'm guessing it is because the templates are cached on their workstations.

The problem obviously comes into play when a new user or user with a new workstation tries to open the infopath forms.

Any ideas how these files could be opened?
