How do I uninstall VS2010 trial and reinstall licensed copy ?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I installed a VS2010 Trial and have since downloaded a copy from the company MSDN account. I uninstalled everything that said VS2010 in the Programs area and am now attempting to reinstall the MSDN copy. It does not work. The install ends up through all kinds of errors and ends with an unsuccessful install message.

What do I have to do to completely clean off the old versio, or may the new one overwrite everything? Thanks.

Uninstall SQL Server 2008 trial version

I would like to know how to properly uninstall SQL Server 2008 trial version altogether.

VS2010 What happened to ctrl-V !! Ever since moving to VS2010 Copy / Paste functions are not workin

It is hit and miss and mostly miss when I atempt to cut and paste code from one place to another. Please help! I will use CTRL-V after cutting some code to paste it and it does nothing but move the currsor to the beginning of the line. I thought perhaps I had accedently changed the shortcut setting, but a revue of tools\options\keyboard\shortcuts verifed that CTRL-V should be pasting. I am sure you can imagine how debilitating this can be. I hope someone knows what is going on as I can find no information anywhere about it.

Cannot uninstall or reinstall TFS 2010: how to clean by hand ?

I have installed SQL Server 2008 express, reinstall it with advanced services, uninstall TFS 2010 and tries to reinstall it but fails. It doesn't want to completely uninstall.

So I'd like to clean everything by hand (deleting registries, folders) but can't find any info. I have deleted install directory but installer still memorized that TFS is installed.

VS2010 - copy/paste XAML UTF-16 loses characters

I have some (generated) XAML which uses UTF-16 characters (in some of the text); however when I copy/paste the XAML from one VS2010 instance to another the UTF characters get mapped to UTF8 characters; e.g., left and right double quote chars turn into quote chars. This of course is disasterous when the characters occur within an attribute value!

How can I preserve UTF-16 text when pasting into a VS2010 window? (The original file is *loaded* into the VS2010 project and works fine there. I'm trying to isolate a problem by selectively excising parts of the XAML and to do this I use copy/paste into another VS2010 instance containing some XAML boilerplate to try out small segments from the original.)

SQL Server 2008 Development problems with Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate uninstall and VS2010 premium i

I installed VS2010 Ultimate to test it out but had license for the VS2010 premium only.  After uninstalling ultimate and reinstalling VS2010 premium, my SQL Server 2008 now refuses to connect to my databases stating:

SharePoint 2010 Internet Enterprise uninstall/reinstall with fixed enterprise key fails with error,

In attempting to apply the advice in http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sharepoint/archive/2010/06/03/sharepoint-server-2010-for-internet-sites-update.aspx, I'm unable to re-install SharePoint 2010 Enterprise for Internet Sites.

I had a "Server Farm" installation using RTM (from my Select site) that installed all components (i.e., "Complete").  In addition, I had FAST server and Web Apps installed.

Per the instructions, I simply used the Control Panel to do the uninstall:

  • Used the Control Panel to uninstall SharePoint 2010 (i.e., yes to "Are you sure you want to remove Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 from your computer")
  • Restart
  • Get new product key
  • Run setup
  • Get error:  "The install in progress conflicts with a previously installed Microsoft Office 2010 Server product"

Perhaps I should have run the configuration wizard first to disconnect, etc. but was trying to follow the provided instructions exactly.

That said ... what can I do to clean up the remnants so I can re-install the product without wiping the server, etc.

P.S.  If the instructions were not intended to be taken literally, please update t

How to reinstall trial version of Sharepoint Server 2010 on the same server

I installed Sharepoint 2010 on my Virtual Box VM. I was having some problems accessing the configuration database and hence the central administration website. I couldn't figure out what was the problem, so I decided to uninstall and then reinstall the trial version of SP 2010. But now it's not letting me do that as it says I cannot install the trial version on the same server. Its been only 2 weeks since I installed the SP 2010 trial version, how do I skip this. Please help

Uninstall/Reinstall MS Cluster

Hi all,

I really need som help here. We "had" a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 cluster installed on two nodes running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise. Node 2 crashed so we fallowed the MS procedures to reinstall the node and tried to add it again to the cluster. But i wont work and we have given up on trying. So at this point we want to build a new cluster paralell to this environment and move the resources to this new one.

What is the best way to do this?

Is it possible to reuse cluster name, resource name and so on?

SSMS for 2008R2 Crashes Immediately; kernelbase.dll fault; Both Repair and Uninstall/Reinstall Don'

I currently have the 64-bit versions of SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008R2 installed on Windows 7, 64-bit. The 05 version works fine. I can even see the DBs on the 20008R2 server instance when using SSMS-05. However, I cannot even begin to open SSMS-08R2. It crashes immediately. The event log shows a problem with kernelbase.dll.

I have tried to repair the installation, have uninstalled and reinstalled, but the problem remains. This is the latest in my problems with 2008R2. Originally, I had a problem wherein it crashed after selecting a server to connect to because it could not read the registered servers, and I was never able to fix that either. Now I don't even get that far.

Searching for kernelbase.dll, I find that I have two versions on my machine: 6.1.7600.16385 and 6.1.7601.17514.

Faulting application name: Ssms.exe, version: 2009.100.1600.1, time stamp: 0x4bb679e7

VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

How can I be sure that my entire project is up-to-date and free of errors in VS2010?

Seems like a stupid question, but I will go to Build > Build Solution many many times and the build will succeed many many times, then I will put in a minor syntax error and the build will fail, BUT the build will not fail because of the minor syntax error; it will fail because of an unresolved type that I put in about twenty compiles ago. And then I will fix the minor syntax eror, and the compiler will still complain about the unresolved type. Here is my code:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="FTB" Namespace="FreeTextBoxControls" Assembly="FreeTextBox" %>
  <form runat="server">
  Hello World!!

Pretty simple, really. I go to Buld > Build WebApplication1 and it runs OK. Now, if I put in a minor syntax error, such as substitute "forrrrrrrm" for "form" and then try to Build Solution, it complains not about the misspelled word, but about the FreeTextBox. And then if I correct the misspelled wird, it still complains about the FreeTextBox. Which leads me to believe that Building the Solution does not check absolutely 100% everything that needs to be checked. Is there a more thorough way of compiling a program that I need to use?

Where is SilverLight Toolkit in VS2010?

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express "Copy Web Site" using different login

I created a site and am trying to grant another pesron access to upload changes to it without giving them my super-user login.

I made a login for her but I can't test whether it works or not because no matter how much I "disconnect" in the Copy Web Site page of VWD 2010, reconnecting to the same site always logs in as my superuser account without prompting me for a login again.

How do I test is the account it set up correctly before having her try to upload to it?    I want to force the login to remote site dialog to pop up again to test her account.

Any ideas?

Bulk Copy From Datatable To SQL Server Table

 public bool BulkEnterData(DataTable dt, string tblName)
        SqlBulkCopy bulk = new SqlBulkCopy(con);
        bulk.DestinationTableName = tblName;

        return true;

vs2010 web deployment project restarts w3svc even when restartwwwservice = false

We've updated some of our projects from VS2008 to VS2010.  When these projects are deployed the w3svc is restarted on the target machine, even when restartwwwservice = false in the vdproj file.

This was a problem in 2008 until SP1 (http://forums.asp.net/p/1300097/2534736.aspx).  Does this same problem exist in VS2010?

This is a major problem for us -  we need to be able to deploy projects without restarting IIS.

I've tried creating a new web deployment package and setting the restartWWWService field to false, but this still does a restart when it's installed.

Has anyone come across this problem in VS2010?

VS2010 WDP Optimization

We have moved our projects from VS2008 to VS2010(Ulitmate) but staying with .Net 3.5. In VS2008 we had a web deployment project that would compile the web project to a single dll and emit full debug information, adding the new web deployment project in VS 2010 to do the same the dll is produced along with the pdb but when a dev attempts to debug the variable comes back with "Cannot evaluate expression because the code of the current method is optmized".

In VS2008 we had a targets fix file which had the setting for the optimization but these don't appear to work under 10 (plus the targets file has grown).
