Editing javascript with debugger attached (VS 2010)

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

A change between VS 2008 and VS 2010 seems to be preventing me from editing javascript files with the debugger attached.

Previously, when debugging a site running on local IIS7 (Win 7 x64), I could open one of the loaded scripts visible in the solution explorer, make a change, save it and reload the page.

In VS 2010 all of my loaded scripts are marked as [dynamic] [read-only] despite being served as static files.  So they are not editable.  In VS 2008 this only happened if I debugged external websites, not local ones running off of my own hard drive.

Is there a setting I may have wrong?  Either in IIS or VS?  The ability to easily correct js errors while in debug mode was a tremendous boon in my development process.

ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript Snippet Support (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

This post covers another useful improvement in VS 2010 - HTML/ASP.NET/JavaScript snippet support. Snippets allow you to be more productive within source view by allowing you to create chunks of code and markup that you can quickly apply and use in your application with a minimum of character typing.

Visual Studio has supported the concept of "snippets" for VB and C# in previous releases - but not for HTML, ASP.NET markup and JavaScript. With VS 2010 we now support snippets for these content types as well.

Sharepoint 2010 masterpage editing questions

Hi, I have a Sharepoint design which I am trying to customise in SP2010. I can't make a new masterpage but I can copy an existing one. Why? I copied default.master. Do I need to keep any of the existing elements like Site Actions? Because this needs to exist if I choose to edit the site page. But of course for a read only user this won't display (is a shame this gets in the way of the design though). Please advise and provide any other useful tips. Thanks

Scrollbar disappear when adding an attached file in MOSS 2010

Hi, When adding a new element in my SharePoint list, the vertical scrollbar is OK. But when I click on the attached file button to upload a file and back to the list form, the scrollbar disappears !! It's impossible to access the "save" button at the back of the form. Any issue to that problem ? Best Regards, François

Javascript error when attempting to switch page layouts in SharePoint 2010

I hope I put this in the correct forum. I am experiencing the following error when attempting to change the layout of an existing SharePoint 2010 page. But it does not seem to happen on all page types, just publishing pages. This error is happening on both the development server and both test servers. I have look in to the logs, since if it a javascript error there was nothing, which would be expected but I had to try. I have look at the cui.js file but was unable to spend enough time trying to figure out what exactly is going on in this file. Error being received ... VWD 2010 Express (and all VS 2010 Express) "Unable to attach debugger."

I have a problem similar to the one described here: http://forums.asp.net/p/1200680/2103206.aspx - but that was about VS 2008 RTM, and also a different error message. When I go to debug anything using any of the VS 2010 Express apps (under WinXP SP3 x86 with .NET 2 SP1, 3.0 SP1, 3.5 SP1, and 4.0 installed), I get an error alert box showing:"Unable to attach. The debugger is not properly installed. Cannot debug the requested type of code. Run setup to install or repair the debugger."I did a Repair on VWD 2010 Express, then another on .NET 3.5 (which includes .NET 2.0 SP1 and .NET 3.0 SP1), to no avail. From reading in other forums, I read advice on running the Debugger Diagnostics, which I did. It seemed to show no errors (all Return Codes were eight zeroes each).I also saw advice on running "regsvr32.exe" on the "mscordbi.dll" file found in my .NET 2 Framework folder (%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v.2.0.50727), and on a file in the V7DEBUG folder, which I did. The latter worked fine, but the former gives this alert:"mscordbi.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. | This file cannot be registered."In the thread I linked to, greggm suggested using FileVer (found on Windows 2000 and up CD-ROMs by installing the Support Tools) on the contents of the V7DEBUG folder. I did it to both that and the .NET Framework 2 folder as well, and re-directe

Cached Javascript file using feature VS 2010 - Bug?

Hi, I am using a custom action in an element.xml to reference an external script in my SP2010 solution - by adding a SP 2010 layouts folder and adding the script in there. Everything deploys and runs fine, however, if i update the javascript file and redeploy the solution, when debugging the javascript, the old (non updated) file is loaded and executed. I have tried retracting the feature and re-deploying, cleaning the solution, rebuilding and deploying, yet the javascript file loaded dynamically is still the old file. It seems to be updated intermittently, however, this is quite awkward as I cannot accurately guage when the file is refreshed. I am closing the IE window after every debug session.  Is there a process I should be following to ensure that the script is updated every time? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Sharepoint 2010: Editing My Profile:Choose Picture gives errors

Word 2010 Crashes When Editing Server or Document Properties

I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if this is a bug. We are using Metadata in our SharePoint 2010 implementation and I have linked this to the various document templates. If the template is a docx or dotx extension then, in a document library, going New Document and editing the Server or Document Properties causes Word to crash. Document templates based on .doc extensions work fine. Once the document has been created you can edit the properties but obviously this isn’t the best process. Does anyone have any advice on this? Thanks Neil

Workflow designer causes VS 2010 RTM to freeze when editing build process template.

I have a Dell Studio 1747 laptop with Intel i7 1.6GHz, 6GB RAM, Windows 7 Professional x64. I recently "updated" VS 2010 RC to RTM (removed all of RC and installed RTM). So far so good. Also, I have TFS 2010 RTM on the machine working perfectly, and have two team projects in there. Now, on a given solution, I copied DefaultTemplate.xaml to NewDefaultProcessTemplate.xaml and checked it in. I check it out and open it, and the workflow designer shows up. Then, I "Expand All" and go down to the "Compile, Test, and Associate Changesets and Work Items" section. If I click a subsection to collapse it, the mouse cursor changes to an hourglass and stays like that indefinitely. Sometimes, after a couple of minutes, the action is performed; then, it happens again up to a point where VS completely freezes. I have cleared VS 2010 cache, and have performed a repair on VS 2010 and TFS 2010 (just in case) to no avail. I have even disconnected from TFS right after openning the file, and still the same issue. This is f****** extremely frustrating. I can't do anything on the workflow designer. HELP !!!!!

Sharepoint 2010: Browser compatible infopath forms are not open in web browser for editing

I created a browser enabled form with InfoPath 2010. I then published the form by selecting the option "Publish form to a SharePoint library" and then selected "Form library" and finally selected "Create a new form library". As a result, a new form library was created. When I click on "add document", the browser opens a new form, which I can fill and save successfully. However, after the form is saved, whenever I click on the form name in the form library to edit it, the browser "opens with" dialog box opens, asking for an XML editor software. In other words, the form does not open in browser for editing even on systems that do not have InfoPath installed.

The form is browser compatible and the form library is configured to open browser-enabled forms in browser. The issue is that the form hyperlink is directly pointing to form XML file rather than pointing to InfoPath form services URL.

I would really appreciate, if someone tells me how I can edit the form in browser.

No Javascript / JQuery intellisense in VWD 2010

I used to have intellisense for Javascript, including JQuery, in Visual Web Developer 2008. However in 2010 it has disappeared.  I have tried resetting my settings, but this has not helped.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance

Accessing External Javascript files (.js) in VWD 2010 (.Net 4)

Hopefully I've selected the appropriate forum to post. If not, kindly let me know and I will post in that forum.

I have searched hundreds of posts over countless forums, but am unable to run a Javascript that is placed in a separate .js file. If the script is placed directly in the <HTML> and ASP markup, the script runs fine. I am a newbie at this and resolution may be quite simple. But I cannot figure it out.

I have simplied the example down to a single .aspx page with a single button and the codebehind in VB, knowing that if I cannot get this working, I certainly won't be able to get my real scripts working.

I am currently running VWD 2010 on the .Net 4 framework. I've been working on this problem on and off over the past 3 weeks and simply cannot get it to work, so I continue to insert the code directly into the markup. I have tried countless changes to the following code, but not once able to get it to work.

Any help, suggestions or recommendations will be graciously accepted and very much appreciated.

The .aspx page is as follows:

<%@ Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="Test_Script.aspx.vb" Inherits="Test_Script" %>

Concurrent editing of an Infopath 2010 form

I'm working on a project where multiple user groups have to collaboratively fill a large form (more than 300 questions) that is divided into 10 sections. Each user has to fill in his/her section and sign it. After completion the whole document is supersigned by another user.

Filling in the form is often done concurrently and one person has the task to merge all sections together again. Goal of the project is to migrate the whole process from word forms and manual merging to infopath/sharepoint 2010.

One of the major problems at the moment is that of concurrent section editing. Is there any way to realize this in infopath? An alternative approach is to split the form into multiple sections for editing but they have to be merged into a single form after completion. Any ideas on how to do that?

It is ok to use external tools/plugins but the custom development effort should be minimal.
