We're running SQL Server 2008 Standard edition version 10.0.2531.0 (SP1) 64-bit.  It is running on Windows Server 2008 R2. SQL Server Configuration Manager: Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion

I have a SQL Server 2005 box that was moved from a domain environment to a non-domain environment and was never dropped from its original domain before moving over.  Subsequently a new domain was created at the data center this SQL Server box now resides in.  The machine was dropped from its old domain and joined to the new one.   All the while the service accounts were set to the local admin account.  When I tried to start the Configuration Manager I got the message "Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion.".  I read some blog entries and tried changing all the service accounts to Local System and the error message still came up.   All of the SQL Server services run fine.  It is just this management console that I cannot open.  I wasn't with this employer when this box was moved to the data center so I do not know if it worked prior and there isn't anyone here that could give me its history.   Any help would be appreciated.

SQL Server Configuration Manager - Protocol Name is blank

When I run SQL Server Configuration Manager (2008) and click on SQL Server Network Configuration and then Protocols for SQL, the right side of the screen shows the protocol icons and their status, but the names (TCP/IP, Shared Memory, Named Pipes, etc) are not there. Can someone tell me how to get the names to display again? They used to show up. A thought is that I installed XP SP3 and that made them go away, but I can't prove that.

Permission Errors for Users on Home Page only of SQL Server Reporting Services Report Manager

I have spent days now investigating this problem, so any help very much appreciated! I have a remote web server 2003 running SQL Server R2 Express Edition with Reporting Services installed. I use Report Builder 3.0 locally to build report. If I login via Internet to Report Manager Web Page as an administrator I can perform all the expected and required actions, creating new folders and assigning permissions for users etc. I have added a new user "ReportUser" as a Browser of a child folder. If ReportUser longs on to home page, he receives the all too familiar error: User 'XXXXXXXX\reportuser' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed. However, if the user starts at the child folder of home page, and then logs in, he sees the expected page, and can run the report!  This is not very satisfactory. How can I allow user to see home page, without an error message, but not be allowed to click on any folders to which he is not entitled? I am now aware that SQL Server R2 Express Edition has many limitations compared with full Editions (fixed roles, cannot manage Report Service from Management Studio etc) , and many of the "solutions" offered on the web just do not apply.   John Walton

Don't see tab and toolbar of the report manager application after installing sql server reporting s

Hello everyone: I have tried to install and configure Reporting Service. I found lots of  errors along the way. The first one was an error (500.23) from IIS7. I applied the suggested solution on the IIS screen which was migrating configuration using AppCmd ( %SystemRoot%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd migrate config "Default Web Site/"). Next problem was  : Request is not available in this context Stack Trace: [HttpException (0x80004005): Request is not available in this context] System.Web.HttpContext.get_Request() +3465893 Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI.Global.get_ConfigurationManager() +47 Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI.GlobalApp.Application_Start(Object sender, EventArgs e) +32  This error was caused by the fact that Report Server and Report Manager were configured to DefaultAppPool in the Reporting Service Configuration Manager. I have switched to Classic .Net AppPool  for both Report Server and Report Manager and it has fixed the problem. Now my problem is that the Report Manager Application ( http://localhost/reports/folders.aspx ) shows no tab, toolbar or folder. What I now have on the Report Manage Application page is the header with the title and [home] and [Help] button links on the top right corner. I have made a report to test the problem but no folder shows o

Issues with updating Lists with Manager Names and User Profile Imports in SharePoint 2010 Server

I am having a curious problem with SharePoint 2010 Server. I have imported all the user profiles of our organization into SharePoint User Profile Service Application from our Active Directory. When the Manager name imports it comes in as domain/login. The organizational browser seems to work for MOST people, but not all. I believe this is contributing to my second problem, which is, I have setup a very simple workflow in SharePoint Designer that simply looks up the persons Manager, then places that information into a field called "Approval 1". After that it looks at Approval 1 and get the Manager name and populated "Approval 2" with that information, and so on. I have used an Impersonation Step as the Farm Administrator in the workflow and I have done it without the impersonation step. Both results in the same problem. When I enter my name into the list and run the workflow it runs beautifully give every manager up the chain to the top. However, if I put any other person's name in there it gives me the error "Workflow failed to get user profile for user: ____". I went to my supervisor's office and asked him to run the workflow. Using his login he had the exact same result--if my name was in there it worked great, otherwise, it gave an error. Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager no longer displays DTS packages

SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager no longer displays DTS packages and the SQL Server Agent jobs that use the DTS packages now fail. The affected servers are running Windows Server 2003 SP2 and SQL Server 2000 SP4 and all update patches for both the OS and SQL Server. The DTS packages are ActiveX scripts that read data from a database table and output that data to a text file on the same server.  They include the database connection string and the SQL account used by the connection string has not changed. I've determined that the DTS packages still exist by trying to re-create them with the same name, but they don't appear in the Local Packages window and they no longer function when the scheduled job that uses then runs. The SQL Server Agent Job error is as follows: Executed as user: <server admin user account>. DTSRun: Loading... Error: -2147467259 (80004005); Provider Error: 11 (B) Error string: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).] General network error. Check you network documentation. Error source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server Help file: Help context 0. Process Exit Code 1. The step failed. The job has working perfectly for the last 5 years, until about a week ago when it started failing. I have two other servers with the exact same configuration running the same DTS packages and job that still work and the DTS packages show up in Enterprise

spid3 SQL Server is terminating due to 'stop' request from Service Control Manager

Installing MSDE (SP3) on a clean updated Win-XP system with all the latest fixes installed unsuccesfully. A clean systems means a fresh installed Win-XP, updated all using webupdate. And Excel 2003 installed. Thats all (not even AntiVirus (yet))No UI in the end. Only when examining the Log files at the installation location does show that there was an error: <DateTime> spid3 SQL Server is terminating due to 'stop' request from Service Control Manager is found at the end of the logfile. This error is often encountered by others as found on any respected seach engine on the web. Most have no answer and some say it is because of MDAC. But I got the latest Mdac installed (v2.8 (.1)) RTM. checked it using 'Component Checker' if nothing missing. All seems ok and in place except for MSDE. Anybody?

SSRS 2008 - report manager: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server

I have an instance of Reporting Services 2008 running on Windows 2003 server.  So, the webservice URL is running on port 801, and runs fine (I can browse reports from that directory, and upload / deploy new reports and overwrite existing reports. Report manager is set to use port 800 (IIS is also on that machine running port 80).  When I attempt to connect to report manager, I get the following error, with a link to "Home" in report manager (which brings me back to the existing error page):    Unable to connect to the remote server  In the logfiles for reporting services, the following error is there: " System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.   Any ideas? Windows Firewall is NOT running on this machine.   Thanks, Chrisrjp

SQL Server Integration Services 2005 x64 (DTEXEC.EXE) cannot recognise a custom "Connection Manager"

I have built a custom SSIS component for connecting to SQL Reporting Services in SSIS - including a custom data source and custom connection.

It works fine using 32bit DTEXEC and dtsdebughost, but I cannot get it to load in a 64bit environment.

Initialy I was compiling the dlls as MSIL (target=any), then I recompiled specifically targetting x64 (copying the dlls to the 64bit location and deploying to the GAC), just to see whether the problem was because of using an MSIL binary.

The 32bit version works as expected - are there any additional registration steps required for a 64bit Connection manager beyond copying to the /connections directory and installing  into the GAC?

The output from DTSEXEC:

c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\Binn>DTExec.exe /f "e:\temp\SSISCus
tomADComponent\TestSSISSolution\Integration Services Project1\Package.dtsx"
