Running Dbcc CheckDB on Production Server databases.

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi Guys

I am new to SQL Server Administration. I have set up the Backup jobs according to the requirements from the Application team. Also I have set tip the  update stats, Reindexing Job every 2 weeks as far as the maintenance as maintenance is concerned. I am using  SQL Scripts in the SQL Agent to perform all these jobs

But i have not scheduled any Integrity Check (CheckDB ) Jobs on any of the database in any of the servers. I have databases of Size 1Gb-50 GB and few from 100-600 Gb.

I want to set up the integrity jobs on all the databases. Can you please suggest me some best ways how I can schedule jobs every 2 or 3 weeks on small databases and on big databases like 100 - 600 GB in SQL Server 2005,2008.

Cant move system databases of SQL Server 2008 (Clustered) running in Windows 2008 with Service SID e

I was trying to move system databases of SQL Server 2008 on clustered emvironment running on Windows 2008.

I remember while doing the cluster installation somewhere it gave me a recomended option of using Service SID. I think that is the culprit here. Because if you see the "Security" of the DATA folder containing all the MDF and LDF (by default location) you will find a Group named "MSSQLSERVER" is having full access to that directory.

While moving the system databases you need that account (MSSQLSERVER) given access to the parent directory containing the MDF and the LDFs, But unfortunately you cannot add that account manually. Even I tried XCOPY to make sure that while copying the ACLs gets transferred properly to the destination, even that failed.

I think it does provide a solid Security but at the expense of Maintenance, which I cant agree.

Also I forgot to tell you that this Sevice SID option is available if you are using Windows Vista / Windows 2008 or above,

Does anyone has any experience of moving the system databases with Service SID enabled in a cluster environment.

As a testing just try to copy/xcopy/robocopy any folder having MSSQLSERVER group in the ACL and see what happens .. If you are lucky like me then you will get ACCESS DENIED error.

Have anyone faced the same error? I h

Linq with two databases (oracle and sql server)

i have a problem to bring the data from the oracle (external database) and the sql server together (with similar data). The linq entities are linked to each other. The structure is like different countries with different cities and so on. To display these "non original linq objects" i need to put them into entities (linked to each other). Now i add some of them to my sql database. But for every entity i must check the connection to the other objects i don't want to add and delete them (otherwise linq will add all the connected objects, even those I don't want to add). If this goes wrong the whole input-method crashes. Is there any other possibility, except from checking every single entity and removing unwanted connections, to handle this procedure?
Thanks a lot, preg

Deploying custom Web Parts on SharePoint 2007 production server

I would like to develop a custom SharePoint 2007 Web Part for a client. Currently I'm using Visual Studio to deploy my solution to a test environment (since it's a SharePoint Project I choose just Build -> Deploy from the menu). What are the appropriate steps to deploy it to the production server?

I'd like keep it simple and safe (i.e. use the principle of least privilege). Therefore (if possible) avoid using stsadm, achieve this through web interface, or avoid using administrative rights.

Also, can I specify the scope of my Web Part, i.e. choose on which Web Application or Site Collection will it be installed?

Can managed code "detect" if it is running in the normal .Net CLR or the special SQL Server CLR? Is there some environment flag or field we can look at at runtime? Thanks Cap'n

(SQL Server 2008) Exporting entire databases to SQL CREATE/INSERT statements

Hi All, I'm looking for a way to export SQL Server 2008 (Express or otherwise) databases to CREATE/INSERT statements.  I've seen a million threads (give or take) with instructions for creating large (often illegible) TSQL scripts for the task.  However, I'm hoping that this isn't the only way by which to do it.  I have need to regularly back up the data from existing MS SQL Server DBs (which are used by some of our standard apps) to various other MySQL and PostgreSQL databases (which are used by PHP and Rails web front ends).  I need to export them from MS SQL Server 2008 to a general format (i.e. INSERT statements) and perform regex edits on the file as necessary. FYI, I've written a few applications that connect to the various DBs over ODBC, etc. and transfer the data row by row.  You can image how painful this process is... I realize that there are many tools that do this.  However, most of them approach the issue from the standpoint of migration, and not that of regularly scheduled backups.  Also, this tool will need to eventually be distributed so having to purchase a license for the migration app for each person/group simply isn't feasible. Anyway, if you guys have a quality, straightforward solution to this issue, it would certainly be appreciated. Best.

net.tcp://localhost:80/MyService client/server errors while IIS is running - even though all Net.TCP

Hello, I am trying to create a simple WCF client/server solution in two Windows Forms projects, respectively.  I am using net.tcp binding on port 80 and have enabled the port sharing property.  My NET.TCP Port Sharing service is running.  I am using Windows 7 x64 and logged in as an administrator.  I've added my username to the smvchost configuration files, in both Framework and Framework 64 directories. I also have IIS running on port 80. However, there seems to be a conflict between net.tcp on port 80 and IIS on port 80 simultaneously.  My understanding was that the Net.TCP Port Sharing is supposed to be the solution for this very scenario. Here are the specific issues: 1.  I start the server in debug mode, which works fine.  I then try to connect with the client, and get the error: "You have tried to create a channel to a service that does not support .Net Framing.  It is possible that you are encountering an HTTP endpoint".  This seems to imply that the NET.TCP Port Sharing is not forwarding the request to my WCF server, and instead is encountering IIS.  This is the first problem. 2.  The second issue is that the Server starts fine in Visual Studio in debug mode, however when I try to run it as a compiled EXE (and right-click - run as admin) it errors "The TransportMana

Hi All, Using Merge Replication over the web (https). Server is running SQL Server 2008, client using SQL Server Express 2008. I am getting these error messages while trying to synchronize, and it won't let me sync: {call sp_MSensure_single_instance (N'{459D0BBA-53EC-4F65-AF52-E7DA478841DA}', 4)} Another merge agent for the subscription or subscriptions is running, or the server is working on a previous request by the same agent. Can you please advice what can be done to fix. Do I need to kill a process in SQL Server?

Stack Dump generated on the db and SQL tipped over DBCC CHECKDB came out clean

We have Profile db for sharepoint 2010 and the SQL tipped over just before which it generated the below dump. The DBCC CHECKDB on the database came out clean. The SQL Server is SQL 2008 SP1 CU5 and the memory on the server is 32GB with max. for SQL Server being 26 GB.  What could have caused this? There is nothing in the error log prior to this dump. name                                minimum     maximum     config_value run_value ----------------------------------- ----------- ----------- ------------ ----------- access check cache bucket count     0           65536       0            0 access check cache quota            0           2147483647  0            0 Ad Hoc Distributed Queries          0           1           0

Should DR testing include DBCC CheckDB

We have EMC storage and use SRDFa to replicate production data to another location.  In the coming weeks we'll be doing some DR testing that will involve interrupting replication, then mounting the 'DR' storage on our staging servers.  I'll attach the databases and testing will begin.  I'm wondering if standard practice should include running DBCC CheckDB against the 'recovered' databases before turning them over to the users. [We're running SQL 2005 SP2 Enterprise (64-bit) on a 6 node Active-Passive cluster.  The OS is Win 2003.]

Application_Error not firing on Production server.

Hi, I am trying to setup my application on Production server. Whenever any error occurs, we are redirecting to a specific page in Application_Error Event in Global.asaxThe code in Application_Error Page_________________________________________ string _rawUrl = Request.RawUrl;if (_rawUrl.IndexOf(".aspx") == -1 && _rawUrl.IndexOf(".gif") == -1 && _rawUrl.IndexOf(".jpg") == -1){       string[] _arrRawURL = _rawUrl.Split('/');       Server.Transfer("~/UserHomePage/Default.aspx?UserProfile=" + _arrRawURL[_arrRawURL.Length - 1]);}  It is getting fired Locally. As it was not working, I tried the alternative as belowMade Custom Errors to On in Web.config. and in IIS, in Custom Errors section, under 404 Page I gave the ErrorPage file Name and written the above code. But still  it is not working.Kindly help me out!  Thanks in Advance. Chaitanya.

need help moving System Center SQL Databases to new SQL Server about30 databases to be moved...

We are running various System Center products, SCSM, SCVMM, SCCM, DPM, OPALIS. and a few other servers all using the same SQL server, which currently is a VM. We have configured and built a new Physical box that will replace this. In the past we have moved SQL databases by doing a full backup and then restoring the backup on the new server, then renaming the servers, both network name and internal sql name.  This has worked fine in the past. However I've never had to move 30 databases before, nor have I had to move reporting services. Is there a better method. a recomended method?
