Function definition and execution. Please help. Urgent.

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am a newbie to tsql, so, i am pretty new with functions also. Please help me with this.

I have a calender table which is used to maintain which all days are working days and which all days are holidays.

What I want is, to create a function, to give the total number of working days between two calender days. I need this value to be passed into a php form.

I will give you the code I used.

function dbo.noofdays(@start date

Improper execution plan with scalar function

Run the following sql in an empty db(in my case, sql 2008): create table t (id int) go declare @i int set @i = 1 while @i <= 1000 begin insert t values (@i) set @i = @i + 1 end go create function f(@i int) returns int as begin return (select count(*) - 10000+@i from t) end go Then run the following sql a, it's slow, used 6 seconds, yet sql b is very fast. Their execution plans are totally different. Can sql a run as fast as sql b? If not, why? -- sql a declare @i int set @i = 500 select * from t where id = (select dbo.f(@i)) -- sql b select * from t where id = (select dbo.f(500)) Thanks!

Schema comparer mistake in table-valued function (Nullability in column definition)

Hello. In my database i have table valued function. In its definition nullability of column is not set directly. This column has a user-defined data type. So the question is: is this column nullable? As i can see here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174979.aspx   When column nullability is not explicitly specified, column nullability follows the rules shown in the following table. Column data type Rule Alias data type The Database Engine uses the nullability that is specified when the data type was created. To determine the default nullability of the data type, use sp_help. It should be not null, as user defined type is declared as not null. SMO says, that column is not null, but schema compare says it is nullable. Who is wrong and why?

Dynamics AX Report call a function at the begin of report execution

I need a way to call a function at begin of execution of the report, and to call another function when execution ends.

I need to connect to SQL to call a stored procedure.

Execution of User Defined Function fails with JDBC, when selectMethod=cursor is enabled

When I try to execute  a function using CallableStatement after setting selectMethod=cursor, it throws error com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The request for procedure 'MYFUNCTION' failed because 'MYFUNCTION' is a function object. ErrorCode:2809 SQLState:S0001

If I remove selectMethod=cursor, the function is executing properly

Did somebody face this? How to solve it?

We need selectMethod=cursor because of issue mentioned here(http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/295907/resultsetmetadata-gettablename-returns-null-or-inconsistent-results) and the solution as suggested.

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

I have two SQL Server instances installed.

1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

Public Shared function doubt????

I am using VB.net/ASP.NET and SQL Server 2000 for a web application.

For populating the dropdowns, I wrote a Public Shared function LoadDDL(), in which I pass the dataset and dropdown name to set.

I have my doubts that this function will produce unexpected results for concurrent users. And will mix the results among sessions because it is a Shared function.

I am confused here. Is it the right way to go?

Please advice. Thanks in advance.

Pure C++: Invoking Generic or Function Templates

As I promised last time, in this month's column I'll walk through the process of defining and invoking a generic or template function under C++\CLI. A function template or a generic function begins with the template or generic keyword followed by its parameter list.

Cutting Edge: Using an Eval Function in Web Services

Web Services are often presented as the perfect tool for pro-grammers. They're interoperable, based on open standards such as SOAP and WSDL, and are fully integrated with the Microsoft® . NET platform.

SOAP Toolkit 2.0: New Definition Languages Expose Your COM Objects to SOAP Clients

In SOAP Toolkit 2.0, the Services Description Language (SDL) has been replaced with the Web Services Description Language (WSDL) and the Web Services Meta Language (WSML). WSDL and WSML files describe the interfaces to a service and expose COM objects to SOAP clients. This article describes a custom tool, IDL2SDL, which takes an IDL file and produces WSDL and WSML files without waiting for a DLL or TLB file to be generated. Also shown is a customized development environment in which WSDL and WSML files automatically reflect the changes to IDL files.
