what is the syntax to check to see whether a constraint exists?   Must a foreign key constraint be dropped from both tables?

DROP CONSTRAINT AND ADD/MULTI TABLES PUBLISHER, PROBLEMS IN SUSCRIPC....

Sorry my terrible english,   I will try to explain my problem, I made some data changes at the publisher and I had to throw away the PK and FK cascading multiple tables. The problem I have is that these changes were trying to apply to the subscribers and can not do because it does not in order which I did step by step through the Publisher. subscribers now show me this error and does not synchronize anything, and takes 0.5 sec and gives the error infinitely I need help, which infinitely grateful Error messages: The schema script ' if exists (select * from sysconstraints where constid = object_id(N'[FinancieroAbonos_PK]')) if object_id(N'[dbo].[FinancieroAbonos]') is not null exec('ALTER TABLE [dbo].[FinancieroAbonos] DROP CONSTRAINT [FinancieroAbonos_PK] ')' could not be propagated to the subscriber. syntax error in CONSTRAINT clause?

I'm trying to add a foreign key column to an existing table (in an MS Acess db) with C# and I get a syntax error.
To me it looks like the syntax is exactly the same as in the msdn example, can you tell me what the problem is?

This is my SQL command / SQL statement text:

ALTER TABLE t_invoice
ADD customer_id integer
CONSTRAINT FK_customer_id FOREIGN KEY (customer_id)
REFERENCES t_customer (customer_id)

PS: As seen in the answer for another topic, I also tried the same statement without the "FOREIGN KEY", yet I still get the same error.

Thanks!

How can I drop and recreate a default constraint using smo?

I'm almost there.

The problem: Using smo, I'm having trouble re-creating a DefaultConstraint on a column after dropping it.
Where this stems from: I need to change a column from nvarchar(x) to nvarchar(max).

(The ms help is useless, showing no examples for working with default constraints. No searches show people using smo to solve this.)

The conceptual problem is that you can't change a column's size if a "DefaultConstraint" exists on the column. You must drop the DefaultConstraint, then change the size of the column, and then re-create the DefaultConstraint.

Variables not shown: The variable "AColumn" below has been populated with a smo column object (Name:"SsGradeString"), and the variable "Size" is the desired size to change the column to.

The error occurs on AColumn.AddDefaultConstraint(DName), error message:"Column SsGradeString already has a default."

I tried doing Table.Alter, Column.Alter, DefaultConstraint.Alter (after the .Drop), but I get: "Cannot access properties or methods for the Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.DefaultConstraint '[DF_ADVSessions_SsGradeString]', because it has been dropped."

'preserve existing values for re-creation of DefaultConstraint
'NOTE: AColumn is the column we are working with and Size is the new size to set.

Need Syntax To Make Results of LINQ Union Return Non-Generic Type

Hi.

I have the below SQL which works just fine:

SELECT     Message, CreateDate, AccountId, AlertTypeId
FROM       dbo.Alerts
UNION
SELECT     TOP (100) PERCENT Status, CreateDate, AccountId,
                          (SELECT     10 AS Expr1) AS AlertTypeId
FROM         dbo.StatusUpdates
WHERE AccountId = PassedInParameter
ORDER BY CreateDate DESC

I have been going about trying to convert the above into a LINQ method and am having problems with return types.
As the above SQL illustrates, I am querying two distinct LINQ tables - Alerts and StatusUpdates -
and then attempting to perform a Union on them. In order to do the union in LINQ, I have to have agreeing types. So, I
am using "var" to make the results of "alerts" and "updates" generic before the union.

public IList GetStatusUpdatesAsAlertsByAccountId<T>(Int32 accountId)
        {
            using (WorkbookDataContext dc = _conn.GetCont

Drop-Right/Left submenus

 I'm currently using the CurvedMenuProjects custom control and I does almost everything I need a Menu Control to do but it doesn't swap submenu position (left/right) when the dropdown goes off the right edge of the screen.

Does anybody know if it's possible to configure the control to do this?

Any pointers on how I can get started writing the behavior into the custom control myself?

Thanks,

X

T-SQL in Yukon: Powerful New T-SQL Syntax Gives SQL Server a Programmability Boost

The T-SQL language in the upcoming version of SQL Server will provide more power and flexibility than previous versions. Additions and enhancements include error handling with the TRY/CATCH construct, SNAPSHOT isolation, and WAITFOR enhancements. Also important are the BULK rowset provider, common table expressions, recursive queries, PIVOT and UNPIVOT operators, and much more. This article introduces these features so readers will be ready for the next version of SQL Server.

ASP.NET: Web Forms Let You Drag And Drop Your Way To Powerful Web Apps

Web Forms have the potential to change Web programming by introducing a new programming model built around server-side controls-a model in which controls render their own UIs by generating HTML to return to clients and firing events that are handled by server-side scripts. Since all the action takes place on the Web server, virtually any browser can run a Web Forms app. And thanks to Visual Studio .NET, building a Web Forms app is a lot like using Visual Basic: just drop a control onto a form then write an event handler. This article describes the Web Forms programming model, how it fits with ASP.NET, and introduces DataGrid, TextBox, and other classes in the .NET Framework class library.

Scott Howlett and Jeff Dunmall: Drag and Drop Data Manipulation Powered by XML

Building on the browser-based org chart featuring VML (Vector Markup Language) described previously in Microsoft Internet Developer, this article takes you through the process of refining that sample app by using XML, XSL, and JScript code to create a new, improved version. Drag and drop editing is added to the org chart interface thanks to built-in support found in Internet Explorer 5.0. XML and JScript allow data manipulated on the screen to be saved back to the server in its native format. The final product of this combination of XML, XSL, and VML is a high performance, scalable Internet app that uses processing on the client to reduce stress for the server.

Way of adding items in Drop Down List or List Box using Javascript

The article Way of adding items in Drop Down List or List Box using Javascript was added by raja.s on Sunday, June 06, 2010.

How to use a drop down list to edit in the standard Edit.aspx with DD?

Hey All,

I'm brand new to Dynamic Data and to ASP.NET.  I've been able to fumble around and get the calendar extender up and running and a few other customization options implemented, but I can't seem to get this drop down list to work - even after reading tons of online info.  The good news is that my web page/application is VERY simple, so hopefully you guys can help me out.  I'm working in VB btw.

I have a list of road projects submitted to me by local governments.  One of the fields is SponsoringAgency, which has a limited number of possible entries (the names of member governments).  Thus, when they submit a new project, or edit an existing one, I want to limit the input into the field "SponsoringAgency." I'm trying to use a dropdownlist because I'm familiar with it from Access, but it may not be the best approach.  Imagine you just setup a brand new, standard DD website, how would you get this to work?

Methods tried and failed (probably because I don't understand them fully):

UIHint - The closest I can get with this is an error saying that since SponsoringAgency isn't a Foreign Key, I'm out of luck.

Creating a SponsoringAgency Table - In my data layer, I created a second table with a list of government names.  I then tried se

Default values in SQL syntax / MVC

Hi guys, I have a little problem for which I need a little advice about.

I have a repository function called getList which retrieves certain information that gets posted to it from a form. My form has 6 fields, and a user can enter searvh criteria in any or all the fields. According to what he has entered, I must execute a SQL string to retrieve matching information.

I have the following:

public List<Client> getList(string clientSurname, string clientInitials, string clientName, string clientNumber, string clientReference, int divisionID, int clientStatus, int usrID)

var clientlist = from c in DB.Clients
                             where c.Surname.Contains(clientSurname)
                             && c.FullName.Contains(clientName)
                             && c.Initials.Contains(clientInitials)
                             && c.OldClientNo.Contains(clientNumber)
                             && c.Reference.Contains(clientReference)
                             && c.DivisionID == divisionID
                             && c.Status == clientStatus
                             && division.Contains(c.DivisionID)
                             orderby c.Surname,c.Initials

Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression

Good Day Gurus!

I have a Excel user application which has a user form (named 'Registo') that displays criteria and an image that has been entered in it's corresponding spreadsheet. This works the way it should.  There's also the ability to search the spreadsheet via a form (by clicking 'Pesquisar' button) this opens a search form. However, I having a bit of a problem with it. When I try to search for something it basically doesn't do anything at all. It just sits there. So I tried to debug it and I think I'm having a problem with either the JET db engine or somethign with teh query or maybe I don't have the correct reference.

I 'borrowed' this Excel application from another forum because it's exactly what I'm looking for! However, I suck at vb.

So I was hoping somebody could take a look at the code and see if I'm missing something?  I'm kinda' desparate to get this working because I'm been trying to figure it out for days and I'm running out of time.  Cry

Checking if a URL Exists

Hello,

I've got a HttpHandler which outputs XML to the client to play video, it outputs the url to the video, video name etc... Validates the request etc.

However sometimes when i upload new video the main URL doesn't pickup the file from the CDN so i have to use a different URL to go directly to one of the main servers.

For example the CDN url is:
http://videos.****.net/
One of the server urls is:
http://videos1.****.com/

What i want to do is check to see if the file can be reached off the .net url before posting it back to the user.

So

if http://videos.****.net/ar/ar_1003_scene_1.ext response then
> post http://videos.****.net/ar/ar_1003_scene_1.ext to client
else
> post http://videos1.****.com/ar/ar_1003_scene_1.ext to client

I hope that makes sense.

I thought of doing a WebRequest/WebResponse but i don't want the file to come back, i just wanna know if its there or not. My site is on a single server while all the video is on a CDN.

(i can't post the url because it's NSFW)

Edit: Why do posts not auto format?!?
