Looking for Clarification - Using a SQL Database MDF in an ASP.Net Application

I am looking to understand how to use Database files with ASP.Net web application projects. Very similar questions were posted, but I couldn't find quite the clarification I am looking for, so here's another post. I've been programming with ASP.Net for a while, but have always been in an environment where I had a full SQL server setup, and the databases were not file format. For the purposes of this project I am trying to keep it in .MDF format so that I can pass it on easily to my customer and let them do what they wish with it. The project is in Visual Studio 2010, a simple ASP.Net 4.0 MVC2 application that is to use EF 4.0 for persistence. Background Issue First thing I did was add a database to App_Data folder. It shows up on Server Explorer and I can manually add tables via Visual Studio - this should mean that the connection string and permissions and such fine I would think. So, next step. I created an Entity Diagram, built everything "model first" and used the Model to generate the database schema. Using the connection string in web.config, the generated SQL code runs, and says at the bottom of VS, "Disconnected". I go to the Server Explorer, and sure enough there's a red X next to the DB file. I expand the MDF, the little black arrow comes back, showing me I am connected. I try to run it again... and it does the same... "Disconnected"

Clarification on how to include script file

It took me a while to realize the following, which was generated by VS after dragging and dropping the script file to a view file,  does not work

 <script src="../../Scripts/jquery.foo.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

Instead, the following works:

<script type="text/javascript" src="<%: Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.foo.min.js") %>"></script>

However, the former works perfectly for another view file. I am wondering if any expert could shed some light on this.

My current hunch is the correct path without using helper Url.Content() depends on a page's URl not where the view file is located.

CSS/Style Clarification

I have an image which is contained in a header DIV.

I want to centre the image in the DIV, so I set the style of the DIV to be "text-align:centre" this worked perfectly and the image was now centred inside the DIV. Seeing as the whole site is using class's to give the shape, I decided to create a new class in my css file. It is definitely a class, as it is declared with a full stop. The only modification that this line does is the same as the inline declaration: text-align:center.

With the declaration in the class file, the image isn't being centered, but the same declaration in the asp.net page and the image is centred correctly.

What gives? Bug? Am I doing something wrong?

The authentication header received from the server was 'Basic realm="DBI"': Need clarification

I am trying to build my 1st WCF service to consume an external web service(possibly non WCF). The endpoint is https://xxx.xxx.com/ACPXxxxx/ACPXxxxxxWebService

I tried svcutil tool to auto generate the proxy and config file using the wsdl file. Now I have the config file with "BasicHttpBinding" . I have made minor additions like security mode, client credentials(according to wsdl). When I try to execute the app, it fails and I get the following error message:

The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'. The authentication header received from the server was 'Basic realm="DBI"'.

I have tried various types of binding as well. I get the same error. I would appreciate if I could get any leads on this.

Form Services clarification

Hello -

I am a bit unclear about what's included in SharePoint 2010.  Is InfoPath Form services included in 2010 or is this an add-on product like Project Server 2010?  I can't seem to find a clear answer to this.  And, I don't see the service in Central Admin.

Any information or link related to this topic would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Walid Gharwal

Clarification on usage of HttpModule

I am looking to use httpmodule and achieve the following. Please let me know if I can use httpmodule for the below,

a) One of the windows authentaicated (ie. AD) site I always want the current login to be as "myserver\superadmin". Can I do that with spsecurity by passing SPToken? If I implement the same, will the entire session be on that same login?

b) On another site, I would like only "myserver\superadmin" to access all site but for normal users I would like to block any url that has "_layouts" by redirecting to home page? Is that okay to do with httpmodule considering the performance etc?

please suggest with any examples.
