Basic Question on .NET CLR in SQL - Calling a function directly?

Hello, I have been reading up on CLR + SQL integration - My aim is to do an e-mail validation by calling RegEx functionality provided by the CLR.However from what I read and if I understand correct - I would need to create a .NET assembly and load it. I was wondering if there is an option to invoke .NET functions directly from SQL [e.g like create a function and access the .NET classes] . ?C# Fan! ananda84(at)gmail(dot)com

Calling a user defined function without Schema Prefix

Calling a user defined function without Schema

 Hi ,

I created a LOGIN User U1 and CREATED a database user DU1 and linked him with the Login User and I created a schema say S1 and set S1 as the default schema for DU1 .

I have a stored Procedure  and a userdefined function inside S1 . I logged in as the Login user, I can execute that procedure directly  without any schema prefix  but I cannot call a user defined function F1 directly (without schema prefix) . it throws an exception

"function name is not a recognized built-in function name"

How can i call a UDF directly with out a schema prefix

--Login User Creation
--Database User Creation and assign to default schema
--Giving User Privilege
EXEC sp_addrolemember db_owner,'S11'

Calling scalar valued Function from SSIS OleDB Command Transformation

Hi There,

I need to call a function to calculate a value. This function accepts a varchar parameter and returns a boolean value. I need to call this function for each row in the dataflow task. I thought I would use an oledb command transformation and for some reason if I say..

'select functioname(?)' as the sqlcommand, it gives me an error message at the design time. In the input/output properties, I have mapped Param_0(external column) to an input column.

I get this erro.."syntax error, ermission violation or other non specific error". Can somebiody please suggest me what's wrong with this and how should I deal this.

Thanks a lot!!

Howto create a safe handle for a uint handle

When interoping with Windows Installers MSIHANDLE (defined as unsigned long, i.e. a 32 bit value), I cannot use SafeHandle derived classes since they become 64-bit on x64.

How do I create a MsiSafeHandle class that captures the value of the method in the following example even in case of asynchronous exceptions

UINT MsiOpenPackage(
  __in   LPCTSTR szPackagePath,
  __out  MSIHANDLE *hProduct

calling jquery function from codebehind

Hi I have the following jquery function that displays a page loading message once the user clicks submit.

<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
        function showSelected(se) {
            var sve = document.getElementById("lblSV");
            if (se.options[se.selectedIndex].value != "0")
                sve.innerHTML = se.options[se.selectedIndex].text;
                sve.innerHTML = "";

//This is how this function is called on the server control.

<asp:Button ID="btnSubmit" runat="server" Text="Submit"
                            OnClick="btnSubmit_Click" OnClientClick="$.showprogress()" />

This works just fine. But i do have some validations on page that i have to check and throw error if they don't fill certain fields on the form. Having this function on the ClientClick event, its fired each time the button is clicked. How could i fire this function on the codebehind once i am done with all my validations?

Calling a javascript function from server side, using AJAX timer

I am developing a ASP.NET ajax application.
I am using a timer:

<asp:Timer ID="Timer1" runat="server" OnTick="Timer_Tick" Interval="5000" />

The only thing I want to do is to call a javascript function on every tick of the timer:

 protected void Timer_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)
            ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this.GetType(), "blink", "<script>blinkit('2');</script>");

This doesn't work.
The javascript function is being called only if I put the 'RegisterClientScriptBlock' in the Page_Load.

How can I call the javascript every couple of seconds?

Thank you
