Changing the address in app.config at runtime ..AN ISSUE..HELP neede..

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF
hi wcf champs.,

hmm...I have a problem..and seriously need a solution to get things done well..!!

Have developed a wcf Upload application, the wcf service is hosted on IIS..now,the endpoint address at the server is exposed at client(in app.config).If further the server ip changes to some other..then the address at the client must be changed..!right..ya I did something to handle this but ,its another problem..!!.

Let me say what i have done and why does that give a problem..

*.*.The server ip is stored in a xml file. When the application runs,it picks up the server ip and changes it in Client.exe.config...

*.And if there is EndpointotFound exception at the client,it asks the admin to check the ip of the server.

*.The admin checks it and if the server ip is changed, the admin changes the ip in the xml file (where server ip is stored).

now let me know.."IS THIS A RIGHT APPROACH TO SOLVE MY PROBLEM" ..But then there is a problem!!let me share that with u..

*.The ip that is picked from  xml and placed in Client.exe.config.

Programmatically Changing the Profile Provider at Runtime

Dear All

I'm using one application but have multiple providers in my web.config for memberships, roles and profiles to allow my application to be used by different groups of users who need to connect to different databases.

This means I'm having to change the membership, role and profile providers on-the-fly in my code-behind files. So far I've taken care of the membership and roles a bit like this:

Dim RolePV As RoleProvider = Roles.Providers(GetSettingFromFile("Provider"))

However, I'm having trouble finding out how to do the same sort of thing for Profiles. I've looked at ProfileProvider and ProfileManager but I can't work it out how to access my the profile property that I've created in my web.config file called "ScreenSize". Normally you would just write Profile.ScreenSize to read or write to the property.

Please can you help me to understand how I access the profile property called ScreenSize by dynamically setting the profile provider first?

I'd be very grateful for any help or advice.

Many thanks

"Mixed mode assembly is built against version 'v2.0.50727'.... " issue and use custom config file

Hi, My Winform applilcation has used Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common namespace(assembly :Microsoft.Sqlserver.smo.dll/Microsoft.Sqlserver.ConnectionInfo.dll) and developed in .NET 4.0. Problem:Application is throw an exception when it tries to use above assembly reference methods. Full error text is shown below, "Mixed mode assembly is built against version 'v2.0.50727' of the runtime and cannot be loaded in the 4.0 runtime without additional configuration information. Changing title o sitemapnode at runtime from code behind c#

Hi guys ! I have a site map on my project and I have section which get values from sql database and it changes according to querystring Id value. In my sitemap the title of the page is everytime same. but I want tpo change it at runtime. I am using multiple sitemaps and My sitemap is not the default one. its name is rootSitemap. I tried some code which I got from msdn but it seems doesn't work for me; protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { SiteMap.SiteMapResolve += new SiteMapResolveEventHandler(this.ExpandForumPaths); } private SiteMapNode ExpandForumPaths(Object sender, SiteMapResolveEventArgs e) { // The current node represents a Post page in a bulletin board forum. // Clone the current node and all of its relevant parents. This // returns a site map node that a developer can then // walk, modifying each node.Url property in turn. // Since the cloned nodes are separate from the underlying // site navigation structure, the fixups that are made do not // effect the overall site navigation structure. SiteMapNode currentNode = SiteMap.CurrentNode.Clone(true); SiteMapNode tempNode = currentNode; tempNode.Url = tempNode.Url + "?TransferType=" + Request.QueryString[0].ToString(); tempNode.Title = "My Transfer Desc - " + Request

changing config file after publishing

Is it ok to change the config file after publishing a site?  I use shared hosting.

It would be nice to do things like change connection strings and smtp settings with out having to republish the site.

Changing crid cell content at runtime

In a cell in a grid, I have a TreeView. When the parsing of the data behind the treeview yields an error, I would like to replace the treeview with a textblock with information on the error details.

I'm thinking about using a datatemplateselector, but I can't figure out how, or if this is the best approach. Any suggestions?

Alternatively I will place a ContentControl in the grid cell and populate it with the correct content from the code behind file, I just think there could be a more elegant solution in pure XAML.

Changing fonts at runtime

Is it possible to change a font at runtime? I am using reporting service to generate letters. Some letters use a different font (can based on a field value), but I don;t really want to use a separate report for each one.

Changing a control attribute at runtime.

Hi Guys,

I'm basically trying to get a div containing a loading gif to show on my page at runtime. I call it from a button click event as well as in the code flow. It was working before I used the AJAX Update Panels. I've since taken them out as they were causing issues with RegisterClientScriptBlock. By the way, does commenting out the AJAX Markup like this...

<%-- <asp:UpdatePanel ID="up_search" runat="server">

...remove them from influence?
My div markup looks like this..
<div id="loading" style="visibility: hidden;" runat="server">
    <img id="loading_gif" alt="Loading..." class="loading" src="Images/panel_loading.gif" />

My code is initiated from the button click event.

protected void btnSearch_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

        //show the loading image

Problem setting endpoint address URL dynamically at runtime in client

I have a WCF web service and clients running on separate windows server 2003 machines. I'm using windows integrated authentication to authenticate the clients. All of the clients and the service are running in appPools in IIS6 as specified active directory users. I have added the service as a service reference to the client project in Visual Studio 2008. This works fine in the development network. To run it in the Production environment I need to change the URL and the UPN at runtime to the production values, but whatever I try it just throws errors? In fact the only thing that worked - but isn't really practical - is when I removed the development service reference and added the production service reference to the project using Visual Studio before deployment. Surely there is some way to change the endpoint at runtime??? I must be missing something simple. Please help! :)

Here is the relevant part of the client endpoint:

         < endpoint address ="http://dev.happyfunland.com.au/FunService.svc" binding ="wsHttpBinding"

Change config tcp endpoint's IP in App.config during runtime.

I currently have a WCF service library, a WPF host app, a shared project that uses the service library as a service reference and 2 projects that reference the project that service references the service library...I hope that made sence. I was wondering how to modify the service library's App.config file during run time with another WPF add that would modify the IP and other information in the app.config files.

Their are a total of 5 App.config files and i need a WPF app to change all 5 accordingly. The problem that happens is that the service library creates a dll when the app.config file packed inside.

Any ideas?

InfoPath Filler - Hyperlink via datasource issue - always reverting to http://address/

I am trying to design an InfoPath Filler 2010 form (form based on a SharePoint List) and I want to create a dynamic URL based on another field in the form.

When I place an image on the form and create the hyperlink from it, I get the option to choose a data source.

I do this, but as soon as I click ok and publish the form, the formula is lost and it defaults to http://address/

Has anybody else experienced this? and if so, did you find a workaround to create a dynamic URL?

Kind Regards

How do I run php code with an html file by changing the web.config file?

I have a windows server and would like to add php code to my .html files. I know this is possible with linux servers with .htaccess files but how do I do it with a windows server? I called my hosting provider and they said I need to forget about .htaccess and look into the web.config file. What I want is for my server to read html files and execute any php code it finds. I can't find the code I need to add to the web.config file.

I am quite new to all this.  I switched my server to a windows server with IIS 7 a few months ago. But I find asp.net way too difficult for this beginner. I can't switch back to a linux server since my business partner is creating pages with ASP.net

I just want to execute php code inside of html files.  Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

SQL Server Config issue

I have created a SSIS package . The source is DEVSQL\SQL1 with windows auth and the destination is TDEVSQL\SQL1 . I created a XML config file for source so i can change it for QA and DEV . I also created a config table in SQL server on DEV\QA\PROD so the package can dynamically get the destination details(TQASQL\SQL1) and TPRODSQL\SQL1.

Somehow when i execute the package using Execute Package utility , the destination does not change from TDEVSQL\SQL1 to TQASQL\SQl1 if i pass the config file that connects to QASQL\SQL1. It still loads the data in TDEVSQL\SQL1 .

We will copy the dts files manually to deploy it on QA\PROD and do not use main manifest to deploy.

Is it a bug in SSIS or is there any solution to it ?

Error 500 after changing web.config

I changed the web.config file to allow code blocks. Added <PageParserPath VirtualPath="/QTeam/*" CompilationMode="Always" AllowServerSideScript="true" IncludeSubFolders=”true” /> under the PageParserPaths section, but now I get an HTTP 500 error code. The error dissapears as soon as I revert the change and save web.config

What I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance...Vlad

Clean Web.Config Files (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

.NET 4 includes a new version of the CLR, and a new .NET 4 specific machine.config file (which is installed side-by-side with the one used by .NET 2, .NET 3 and .NET 3.5).

The new .NET 4 machine.config file now automatically registers all of the ASP.NET tag sections, handlers and modules that we've added over the years, including the functionality for:

.ASP.NET Dynamic Data
.ASP.NET Routing (which can now be used for both ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC)
.ASP.NET Chart Control (which now ships built-into ASP.NET V4)
What this means is that when you create a new "Empty ASP.NET application" project in VS 2010, you'll find that the new default application-level web.config file is now clean and simple:
ASP.NetWindows Application  .NET Framework  C#  VB.Net  ADO.Net
Sql Server  SharePoint  Silverlight  Others  All
