EditForm.aspx and webparts

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

i made a webpart which uploads documents to position in my doc library. i have to use folders because i have 12000 of them so i need this functionality.

now, if i upload it to the folder via upload document(while i have navigated to the folder) i can enter metadata via the EditForm.aspx. i want that to happen as well with my webpart, so i want to ask:

is it possible to call the editForm.aspx from my webpart? Can i access the fitting contenttype so i can access the right metadata?

help would be greatly appreciated.

Custom Editform.aspx crashes Sharepoint Designer

Hi there,

I've recently designed a sharepoint list and customised newform.aspx and editform.aspx. I made copies of the originals then customised the copies.
On both forms I simply:

* Closed original List Form web part
* Added Custom List Form
* Added some section breaks (<tr>) to the form to break it into sections
* Added a new css style to change the background colour on the section breaks (table rows)

Now NewForm.aspx works fine. However after making above changes in EditForm.aspx, I saved it. However whenever I try to reopen EditForm.aspx in Sharepoint Designer (SD), SD crashes! I can only open it in Text view. The error details reported by SD are:

Sharepoint editform.aspx will not allow to change

I wanted to updated my editform.aspx but was warned to make a backup first which I did so I saved editform.aspx as editform_original.aspx.   I edited editform.aspx just the way I want it, went to my sharepoint list and clicked my edit button and it now loads editform_original.aspx. how do I point this back to editfor.aspx? Okay so just to be clear I opened editform.aspx saved as editform_original.aspx in same folder Edited editform.aspx with my changes have tried to set default edit screen to editform.aspx from editform_orignal.aspx and it will not take

How do I change the order of column names in EditForm.aspx

I have an Announcements list to which I've added extra columns: Publish (date), De-Publish (date), and Category (choice).  When I go to EditForm.aspx, the columns display in this order: Title , Body, De-Publish , Category and Publish . I'd like to change the order of the columns on EditForm.aspx so that it is Title, Body, Category, Publish and De-Publish . Changing the All Items view doesn't do it. How might I change the order of columns that is shown to the user?

SharePoint 2007, Modify Tooltip Text in SharePoint forms: EditForm.aspx and NewForm.aspx

I have a list in SharePoint that was created awhile back.  The names assigned to some of the columns in the list are no longer relevant.  Due to existing code, the column names cannot be modified to reflect the preferred names.  I was able to change the lables assiciated with these fields within forms NewForm.aspx and EditForm.aspx.  All looks and works just fine except for when the curser lingers in one of these fields, the tooltip that appears contains the underlining (original...no longer relevant) column names.  This is confusing to the user since the name within the lable and the tooltip are different.  I would like a way to either disable the tooltip from displaying or to modify it to display a custom value.  Below is the code from behind the form as it appears in Sharepoint Designer.  I would appreciate some input on this. <SharePoint:FormField runat="server" id="ff11{$Pos}" ControlMode="Edit" FieldName="My_x0020_Field_x0020_Name" __designer:bind="{ddwrt:DataBind('u',concat('ff11',$Pos),'Value','ValueChanged','ID',ddwrt:EscapeDelims(string(@ID)),'@My_x0020_Field_x0020_Name')}"/> <SharePoint:FieldDescription runat="server" id="ff11description{$Pos}" FieldName="My_x0020_Field_x0020_Name" ControlMode="Edit"/>

Modifying Customizing EditForm.aspx of Doc lib breaks Upload function - Unknown Error

Part of a bigger design issue really. But does anybody know why customizing EditForm.aspx of a Doc lib breaks the Upload function? and how to fix it so it does not. My version of the editform works great, but after an upload I get Unknown Error the resulting url looks like this: https://xxxxx.edu/sites/xxxx/_layouts/Upload.aspx?List=%7b0404432B-91A3-4E18-9202-5954E3A7E0D2%7d&RootFolder=%2fsites%2fmcpharm%2ftest3&Source=https%3a%2f%2fxxxxx.edu%2fsites%2fmcpharm%2ftest3%2fForms%2fAllItems.aspx --- The bigger design issue - disregard if you like: That said, the bigger design issue is we are trying to relate one list row to many documents, but don't want to seperate the docs into seperate folders and would like the solutoin to be seamless. We are going to add a look up from the doc lib to the list, but did not want to use anythng but the List's ID column. However, we do not want users to have to manually look up List row IDs in that form, and we did not want to use a list column that can be edited, even if we can add a unique column policy. My design and thinking is to build a few custom pages with dataviews to show row level details in both lists (1 to many) and a dataview to drive list level functions like edit, delete and upload docs. I think all the pieces are there except for the less than graceful upload function that fist uploads the file and then asks the

A customized EditForm.aspx page giving error because it has a "People and Group" field with a "Allow

My customized EditForm.aspx which has a "People and Group" column with the "Allow multiple selections" property as "Yes" was working fine until the Agusust cumulative update was applied into the MOSS server. Now it's giving me the error: "An unexpected error has occurred". Needless to say, when I change the "Allow multiple selections" property to "No", the customized EditForm.aspx page works fine.Forgetting whyMicrosoft introduced this error for now, is there a workaround that you are awre of?

Problems after amending EditForm.aspx in SPD

I will try to explain this as best as I can.

All of the following changes were made within SharePoint Designer.

Initially I started out with a highly customized EditForm.aspx page.  First thing I did was copy and paste the EditForm.aspx inside the same List, so to create a backup copy.  On this page was a giant Custom List Form Web Part, I decided it would be best to divide this one giant web part into several smaller Custom List Form Web Parts (about 10) so I could fit some Data Form Web Parts in between.  So I did this (took me about 3 hours), saved and decided to check it out.

I received the following error: "This page allows a limit of 200 controls and that limit has been exceeded"

After playing around for a while, I decided it was a lost cause and that it would be best for me just to revert back to the backup copy I had made.  Checking the supporting files for this list, I could see that it was set to the most recent EditForm.aspx page with the apparent "excessive controls" so I changed it back to my EditForm_BackUp.aspx.

After I did this I went to the site to make sure it was working and for whatever reason, when I went to the EditItem.aspx page from the AllItems.aspx page, it took me to the default.aspx page of the entire site collection.

I went back into SPD to check on the EditForm_BackUp.aspx and the Main W

Save button on custom EditForm.aspx locks record

I am having an issue with my EditForm.aspx on a list. My problem is that when I make a change to a record and click save (and it brings me back to the page), the first set of changes are saved fine but if I then enter more content and click save without refreshing the page I get the error:

 Save Conflict.

Your changes conflict with those made concurrently by another user. If you want your changes to be applied, click Back in your Web browser, refresh the page, and resubmit your changes.

This is the code that I am using for my save button:

<input type="button" value="Save Changes" name="btnFormAction" onclick="javascript: {ddwrt:GenFireServerEvent('__commit')}" style="padding: 5px; border-style: none; background-color: #21374c; color: #FFF; font-weight: bold; font-size: 14px;" />

 Is there something I need to add to my code that unlocks the record once it has been saved?

Thanks in advance for the help :)

With sharepoint designer EditForm.aspx set a field to read only

Have a field I want to show the value but not let the user edit value. I have seen other post posts that say set the field to read only but can some get me an example. Here is the current field data

<td width="400px" valign="top" class="ms-formbody">
       <SharePoint:FormField runat="server" id="ff1{$Pos}" ControlMode="Edit" FieldName="Title" __designer:bind="{ddwrt:DataBind('u',concat('ff1',$Pos),'Value','ValueChanged','ID',ddwrt:EscapeDelims(string(@ID)),'@Title')}" DisableInputFieldLabel="False"/>
       <SharePoint:FieldDescription runat="server" id="ff1description{$Pos}" FieldName="Title" ControlMode="Edit"/>

How do a change the above to a read only value?

custom editform.aspx with dataform webpart

we created a custom editform.aspx for a sharepoint custom list and added  custom list form/dataform webpart (insert-->sharepoint controls-->custom list form)  control
to the webpart zone and set the visibility of default "ListFormWebPart" to false.

some of the  form field controls (not required fields) are removed from the dataform webpart. we are able to open an item in edit mode using this custom edit
form and save the  list item.

The strange thing we noticed is that this edit form(editform.aspx) always opens in  EDIT mode (with page | Workflow | Tools | Save and stop editing)

links on the page(below the navigation control). though  "save and stop editing"  link is clicked the page is posting to the server but with no luck, still able to see those links.

We noticed this only with editform.aspx but not with Newform.aspx,displayform.aspx.

Environment: MOSS 2007 + SP2

Webpart in Editform.aspx

I have created a custom webpart using asp.net coding and successfully used to create lists in my site. Now, i want to use the same look and feel from my webpart in editform.aspx and dispform.aspx. Can anyone help to give me steps how to do this.

I tried editing the page by adding the webpart in Editpage.aspx but the webpart is not taking the ID of the row that i am trying to edit.

Please Help

EditForm.aspx submit button prompts user to open/save document.

I'm not sure if anyone can help since I'm dealing with a slightly modified Edit Form and a custom work flow, but here it goes.

I am testing a SharePoint 2010 deployment which uses our 2007 production content database. Most of the database attachment process went okay, but I'm seeing something weird now on my EditForms. Whenever a user uploads a document to a particular document library, we send the user to an edit form to collect some meta data for some custom fields. As soon as you click the submit (OK) button, the form prompts you to open/save the file, as if you were trying to open it from the within the library. Once you handle that pop up, the form is then 'dead'. It doesn't redirect you as it should and the submit/cancel buttons no longer work (yet they are active).

Here's where it gets weird(er). If you try to upload a document from within the library itself, no problem. My issue only happens when you get to the upload page via a dataview of the library from a subsite (which is just a filtered dataview with a site specific filter, nothing too crazy). The link takes you to the normal OOB Upload.aspx just as if you were to get there from the document library itself, but for some reason navigating to it from the dataview (even though it takes you to the same page with the same list ID in the query string) the subsequent editform (again, same form

Want to create a content type with its own Newform.aspx,editform.aspx,allitems.aspx by means of wiza

The wizard then creates a solution on visual studio. The code behind will write generic code for updating/adding into sharepoint.i is there a wizard which will create content type with individual aspx ? If there is a wizard utility which prompts you for fields and field types and then it will create code behind for the aspx.
With this done I can go at the code behind and ammend to put more logic.

I am having an issue with my EditForm.aspx on a Form library.

I am having an issue with my EditForm.aspx on a Form library.My problem is that when I make a change to a record and click save the infopath form associated with that edit form is popping up. I am not able to figure out why this form is popping up

The edit form link is auto generated from workflow which is in below format

https://yourserver/sites/SiteName/Form library Name/Forms/EditForm.aspx?ID=272.

Can any one please help me to stop the infopath form to pop up when an record is edited.

Thank you.

Textbox control not pulling in data in Editform.aspx

In Sharepoint Designer I have created a custom Newform.aspx and Editform.aspx.   I am using Text boxes that are pointed to datafields in my tracking list.  The Newform works perfectly, users are able to enter in their data with no issues and the data popluates in teh correct datafields in the list.  However when a user goes to edit a current entry using the Editform, all of the controls auto popluate with the current data already entered except for the textbox controls.

If I toggel the textbox controls to a listform field in SharePoint Designer, I can see the data is there, but when I switch back to a textbox field they are blank again. Then if a user saves the new edit while the textbox fields are blank, the previous data is removed.

Reading online and several blogs I get the impresion I may need a custom field or some code to pull this data in, but I am not sure and I am still farly new to SharePoint Designer.

Thank you,
