SPS 2010 Search :: Search Topology Queries?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi All,

I have search topology as shown below.

Check if this is ok : -

 (sERVER1)  WFE    (sERVER2)  WFE

(sERVER 7) aPPLICATION sERVER                   (sERVER 8) MYSITE

I guess will work good.

I have a query here : -

Query 1) As I have 2 Query server , is that i need to assign a virtual IP pointing to these two query server and load balance them?

Query 2 As I have 2 Crawl server , is that i need to assign a virtual IP pointing to these two query server and load balance them?

If we need not to put them in load balance then how will the two server handle the request?

Search Searver 2010 - scaling farm topology

I am trying to make sure I fully understand how to scale out my small search server 2010 farm topology.

I understand that in 2010 a server is generic and flexible, providing any number of services and is not role specific (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/sharepoint2010setup/thread/A3CA629C-C006-4002-AACF-74FDBFD6F06D)

I have reviewed Microsoft's various Sharepoint Search 2010 PDF documentation for planning search deployments.

I seem to be confused on probably the easiest part of all this.

Here is my server architecture I would like to implement (typical small farm architecture):

- app-msss-3 query server, WFE, index partition 1, query component 1m
- app-msss-2 query server, WFE, index partition 1, query component 1
- app-msss-1 crawl server, hosts CA
- app-db (contains search DB instance)

Here are the steps I performed.

1. Install Search Server 2010 on app-msss-1 (farm install, complete), create farm
2. Setup CA and search center on app-msss-1
3. Install Search Server 2010 on app-msss-2 (farm install, complete), join existing farm
4. Add index partition to app-msss-2

Search server gatherer calls CloseAccessor() and shutdown() on ISearchProtocol after GetChunk() even if the FILTER_E_END_OF_CHUNKS is not returned. After calling shutdown() it stops calling the createaccessor() with new URL. I want to create a hierarchical indexing but I am not gatherer is not suporting this. The same piece of code is working fine in MOSS 2007, I am facing this issue in MOSS 2010 only. Is there anything changed in MOSS 2010 which is creating this issue?

SharePoint 2010 Search Service Application: "All Content" scope contains 0 items?

I've encountered a nasty bug in our setup. Our Search Service Application manages to crawl all content just fine. However, the scopes don't work. We've got a total of 570 items currently in our crawl database. 350 of these are of class 'People', and appear in the 'People' scope. The remaining 220 items should appear in 'All Content' as part of the intra (sites, documents etc), however the 'All Content' scope reports 0 items. I've tried the following: -Creating custom scopes (still 0 items) -Recreating the Search Service Application twice -Tried different accounts as the content access account. -Ensuring that the content access accounts do have 'full read policy' -Checked the crawl log for successful content (such as sites and documents). However, despite my efforts I still get 0 items for 'All Content'.  Has anyone else encountered this problem, or do you have any recommendation for us? Currently I don't see any other option than to reinstall everything.

SharePoint Server 2010 Search - not returning results but crawling without errors

I have created a Search Service Application on a SharePoint Server 2010 (RTM) Farm and used the default Content Source. I started a Full Crawl and it suceeded with no errors etc. I ran it a few times and no issues. But if I go to the Intranet Portal Web Appliaction and do a search for a document that would have been crawled it does not show up in search results...nothing does. I am not getting any errors in Event Log or ULS Logs relevant to Search. How can I troubleshoot this problem further?SharePoint Solution Architect, Perth Australia - Microsoft Virtual Technology Specialist - MCTS WSS Dev, WSS Adm, MOSS Dev, MOSS Adm - http://wss.made4the.net/ - Founder of http://www.sharepointdevwiki.com/
