Creating a Custom List Definition that uses InfoPath Form

I have created a custom list definition in Visual Studio 2010.  By default it is using the out of the box "pages\form.aspx" for the New/Edit/Display form rendering. 

I am just wondering if it is possible to use an InfoPath form as default for the New/Edit/Display form?

I have tried to create a custom list with custom info path form thru the UI, and export the site as WSP.  I have analysed the files and notice a few things:

1.) I need to add a XmlDocument section in the Schema.xml for displayifs/editifs/newifs.aspx

2.) I need to provision the xsn in "Lists/{List Name}/Item"

3.) I need to provision the *ifs.aspx in "Lists/{List Name}/Item"

As you see, some of the settings required the {List Name}.  That's mean I can't really create a list definition that is reusable because I need to know the List Name before hand. Is there any way to specify the path with some kind of variable instead of static list name?

Furthermore, I notice that the "Developer" tab is missing from the Ribbon when I modify form, hence I can do any code behind.  Is this a limitation, or is there a workaround?

Add a New Item to a Custom Sharepoint List and Sharepoint Calendar from one Infopath form.


I am trying to create an infopath form for requesting time off.  Once the request is approved I want the form to add the event to a calendar on sharepoint.  I was able to do this using the article by S.Y.M. Deploy Infopath form for Custom list


I used customise form option in custom list ribbon menu, and customised the form in Infopath. I used publish option from Infopath its sucessfully reflected in SharePoint site. I have new data connections as well.

Now I ve to deploy the same in Production machine, I have to give script or wsp to the admin guy. Any pointers.

Custom List Infopath Form


I have a custom list with a set of fields. Forms are standart for now.

But i want to have a nice looking form, that i can design in InfoPath.

But how can i replace standart .aspx forms with my InfoPath form ? Edit & View.


Best method for creating a site definition containing a custom list instance



I want to create a new site definition which, when provisioned, includes an instance of a custom list. The custom list definition is contained in a feature as part of the site definition project. What's the best method for creating an instance of this custom list?

I can think of a few ways to do it:

- Modify the onet.xml for my site definition to include an instance of the list

- Use feature stapling to enable my custom list defintion feature when a site is provisioned using my new site definition and include a list instance in the feature.

Is there another more suitable method?

How to read a column of a sharepoint list to a text string field of infopath form?

My infopath form used to read these email addresses from a web service and web.config file. Now i would like to get these user email addresses from a contact list in a sharepoint server. I am trying to do this without writing any codes. Here is what i have done so far: 1. Adding a new "data connection to receive data from SharePoint library or List" where i selected Email Address column of the contact list. 2. I added a new Text Field and define a new rule with "Query using a data connection" defined above. When i try to access the newly created Text field above it always return empty as if the Query attached to it did not executed at all. What did i do wrong? Is there a better way? create new custom list form in sharepoint designer and edit in browser

hi, i have created a new list using sharepoint designer 2007. now i inserted a custom list form to modify some field and add new ones. when i finished i will tight my new custom list to the custom form. what i want to know is. i see the status field in my new form. and i only want the status field to appear in the edit form for the one that has the permission to edit the status. then i tought of open the list in my browser and go to the list settings. but what i notice is i dont see my fields i have modified in sharepiont designer in the columns section i only see the ones from the existing list. my question is how can i hide the status field in the new item form that it only show in the edit form. and how do i get my new form in the column section so the end user can add more fields if they want without using sharepointdesigner thnx

Creating a new root Site Collection using a custom site definition file (ONET.XML)

Using Powershell, I am trying to deploy the our custom solution to SP 2010.  The script is doing the following: Deleting the web application using Remove-SPWebApplication Creating a new web application using New-SPWebApplication Adding and deploying a series of WSP files (one of which has the site definition file in it) using Add-SPSolution and Install-SPSolution Create a root site collection based on the site definition file provided in the WSPs using New-SPSite I get the error "WARNING: Template is not found and is not applied." When I run Get-SPWebTemplate, my site definition does not show up. I saw this: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepoint2010general/thread/5ea46e07-a4b0-4bab-b698-9b6eeb695607 but I want a solution that does not involve me reloading a DLL, as, I feel there is something else I am forgetting. I have also tried: IISReset Resetting the timer service Cleaning the Cache (as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939308) Nothing seems to work.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Help with creating graphs in a site page from figurative data in custom list

Guys Can anyone provide me with someone help please? I need to be able show a graphs/line format in a web part of a site page on my SP 2010 site. I want to use some changing figurative data that is contained within a custom list change a the line/pie chart graph on the fly that is located within a chart/line graph in a site page. Basically when the data in the custom list gets changed by my resources I want to be able to see the changes in the graph almost like a live dashboard. I would be very greatful for some help. Note: I am not a coder nore do I ever claim to be, but if I could get a step by step guide on how to achieve this then I would be very greatful. I have a good understanding of SP but I am not to the coder. I able to supply the list if necessary and if someone could provide me with the code/or if code is not necessary for this task then please can you advise how? The infopath turn off the print option and Idont know how to activate it. It is a list item that desiend with the infopath desiener and have some data conections to other listes at the same site thanks Aharon

Updating an InfoPath Form Library Template breaks preexisting SharePoint List Views

When updating an InfoPath template (e.g. adding a new field), any views I have created on the library lose their filters and sorting, as if the columns on which they were built no longer exist.  Has anyone else encountered this and, if so, is there a solution? V/r Noelle

Adding a custom form to List's FormCollection in code

Hello, In a site within a site collection, using SharePoint Designer 2010 we have created custom Display, Edit and View forms and assigned them to the Item content type of a custom list as it's default forms. When looking at the Forms property of the list, I can see all six forms listed: the three original forms (DispForm.aspx, EditForm.aspx, NewForm.aspx) and the three custom forms (displayifs.aspx, editifs.aspx, newifs.aspx). Each site in the site collection has this custom list and I want to add these three custom forms to the custom list in each site in the collection as the default forms for items. In code I have tried copying the files from the Item subfolder of the first custom list to the Item subfolder in each list in each site, and then setting the properties for the Item content type's default forms to point to these new files (e.g DisplayFormUrl = "~list/Item/displayifs.aspx"; EditFormUrl = "~list/Item/editifs.aspx"; NewFormUrl = "~list/Item/newifs.aspx";) and I have also copied the fourth file template.asxn to this folder in each list. However, I have not found how to add these new files to the Forms property of the list iteself, as this property is read-only. It still only contains the three default forms. How to prevent automatic update from sharepoint list on Infopath 2007 form

Hi there, I've got an Infopath 2007 form on MOSS 2007. I have a custom list in sharepoint and the infopath form has a data connection to that list to receive data. Is there any way to prevent automatic update on the values in the form that is received from the list. I'd like the new form to have updated info received from the list. However, the old/existing forms that were created should have the data that were available at the time when the form was created. Let me know if this is not clear and I'll try to explain more. Invalid URL error on InfoPath Form Publish on an External List

I am using SP2010 Enterprise on Windows 7 and SPD 2010 & InfoPath 2010 all on the same machine in test.  I create an External List based on a ECT and Click on the 'Design Forms in InfoPath' icon and 'Item' which drops down from it.  That launches InfoPath Designer 2010 & downloads the form from http://<site>/lists/<mylistname>/Item/template.xsn and sets you up in an edit session.  I can make changes on the form but when I publish via File | Publish | External List (Publish Form To An External List) I get a save prompt for local copy & then an error: The following URL is not valid: http://<site>/lists/<mylistname>/Item/template.xsn  (same URL as it started with during the initial download). I took screen shots of the messages to make sure. Some things I have tried & observations: If I change to an internal Custom List the publish step (to list not external of course) works just fine. I also ran this test launching SPD as Administrator with no difference.  I stopped the System Event Notification service per http://serena-yeoh.blogspot.com/2006/08/infopathformurlnotvalid.html  'net stop sens' with no difference Any ideas are welcome. BTW I notice that this step of launching the InfoPath designer does change the form on the list in Sharepoint albeit slightly -

InfoPath list definition of type Document Library

Is there a way to create a list definition that is a document Library and deploy to SharePoint 2010 that is based on a InfoPath form?  Meaning that it will deploy and if I select the "add new item" link it will automatically open a new InfoPath form that a user can submit?  I have the infopath forms created already but I need a way to create the form library through visual studio so I can promote through our test and production environment and have it automatically and deploy to the different environments and create the proper list structure.
