It seems that to be able to manage User Alerts, one must have Full Access to the entire SharePoint site - and then use => Site Settings > User Alerts. Ideally, I would like to be able to grant access to users to only be able to manage alerts for a specific list. Is this possible (without having to do any programming) and, if so, how? If such access is only available at the site level, I will simply create a Permission Level that allows one to only "Manage Alerts" Thanks in advance for any assistance. Dave

I created an sql query file in SQL Server Management Studio and saved it onto my hard drive.  I then moved that file into a Sharepoint Document Library so others on my team could use that query.I opened the file from within sharepoint, it launched SSMS.I made a change to the file and pressed save.here is the error message that comes up."The operation could not be completed.  The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"Am I doing something wrong?

If the file already exists I can save changes to the file. But I cannot save new scipt files to a SharePoint 2007 drive.

SQL Server Management Studio (2005 and 2008) seems incapable of writing to files in a web folder (WebDAV, web share).  We have web folders served by our SharePoint 2007 SP1 server, \\servername\folder\folder\etc.  Management Studio can't write to them: When I open a file from SharePoint and edit it, the Save option under Fle is not available If I edit a file in SharePoint and save it as a new file, it lets me, but then when I close it and try to find it again, it's not there in the folder. If I open a new file and trying saving it to SharePoint, I get the error, "The specified URL could not be found, or you do not have appropriate permissions". Permissions are not the issue: all our other applications can read & write files in these SharePoint web folders.Any ideas?

We are in the design stage of implementing a Document Management system in Sharepoint.  My client wants to compare versions of documents.  Can anyone tell me if this feature in Sharepoint is using the Doc Compare function of Word or is there a more robust feature in sharepoint?  My client is looking for something more robust than what is offered by MS Word.

Is there any documentation on the best practices and guidelines around the SharePoint 2010 Application Development Lifecycle Management using SharePoint Designer 2010? With all the new features in SPD 2010, it is great tool to build no-code solutions on top of SharePoint using SPD 2010 and browser customization but it would bring new issues of application lifecycle managenet. No one wants to develop the system against production environment. How would Microsoft suggest to do no-code solutions and follow typical application lifecycle management from dev->staging->production deployment, upgrades, release management etc. What I am really looking for is - how would you build the sites using the SPD 2010 and package them up for the staging and production deployment including first release and subsequent releases with upgrades. I think the first time release can be easily accomplished by packaging up the site collection developed in the development environment and restoring it in the staging and production envrionment. Things gets tricky with the subsequence releases with upgradable features without overwriting production content/data. There are some guidelines with the Visual Studio custom development but because SPD development is tied to the sites or site collection, how would you migrate upgradable components (lists, workflows, sandbox solutions, content t

I am using Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager 2007 to monitor my SharePoint 2010. After installation the version of SharePoint management pack displays as 14.0.4744.1000 where as the one I have installed was of version 14.0.4745.1000. It does not show if anything is managed or not. Kindly help if someone has used SharePoint management pack for managing SharePoint server 2010. Thanks, Rucha

We accomplish Space accounting using  Autocad and Archibus to calculate square feet on a facilities floor plan. We would like to have that ability to use Autocad drawings imported into Visio and use Visio services to calculate square footage information and publish the smart drawings on the web using Sharepoint.

Is there anyone that has accomplished this type of work using the Visio/ SharePoint?  Any help is appreciated.

In one of our client, they are using SAP Netweaver Identity Managment, and also SharePoint 2010. They wanted to protect Office doucments in SharePoint by integrating with Netweaver. Can someone help me or direct me how to configure that in the SharePoint server.
