Upgrade XML : What the use of this file at and after migration?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
What is the use of UPGRADE XML.... IS that the upgrade file is prepared at the time of MIGRATION(gradual upgrade)?

Is that we need to write the upgrade xml before doing migration :gradual upgrade?

Is that the upgrade file is used to fullfill the user request...i mean we have mapping in UPGRADE file used for finding the mapped page?

An example of packaging web application containing database upgrade SQL file

A few months ago, we have a blog talking about extending the web publishing pipeline to package database project deployed SQL file.  In this blog, I'll show step by step example of packaging web application with SQL Server database upgrade SQL file using Visual Studio 2010.  This way, we can generate a web package with incremental SQL script to certain database version.  The scenario may help distributions of a web upgrade package which needs to be installed on many different locations, each with their own SQL server database.   1. Create a Web Application Project 2. Add a new "SQL Server 2008 Database Project" to the solution 3. Prepare a development database, such as my test1 database as the following: 4. Upgrade Solution using a .wsp file created from a site template

Hello, I'm creating a new site template that I will need to move from my development to production server. I have saved the template as a .wsp file and installed it on my staging server without any problems. However, I know once the site goes into production that changes will occur and I will need to upgrade the site template. I have tried to make changes to my development site and save a new site template, and then move to my staging server and upgrade the existing solution using the below PowerShell command, but I get an error that the GUIDS are different and the solution cannot be upgraded. Command: Update-SPUserSolution -Identity MyTemplate v1.wsp -Site http://webapplication/site  -ToSolution MyTemplate v2.wsp Error: Update-SPUserSolution : Given solution cannot be upgraded to the provided ToSolution because the solutions have different Guids. Does anyone know how I would upgrade the solution when using a site template as the bases for the solution? Thanks, wm5

Looking for guidance: Integrated SharePoint SSRS migration and upgrade from 2007 to 2010

Our existing prod farm is MOSS 07 with an integrated SSRS instance using SQL Server 2008, both on Windows Server 2003 64bit boxes. SharePoint databases are on a different SQL Server 2008 server.

I have built a new SharePoint 2010 farm on Windows Server 2008 R2 boxes, using a single SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise server as the backend for both SharePoint databases and Reporting Services (installed in Integrated mode). We are going to be using the database-attach method of upgrading our SharePoint farm.

Is there any specific guidance out there on exactly how to migrate/upgrade Reporting Services in this scenario? I've read through some of the MSDN content (How To: Migrate a Reporting Services Installation) but nothing seems to deal specifically with doing this when in Integrated mode with SharePoint. Our business heavily relies on SSRS reports in SharePoint and also shared and custom report subscriptions via email.

We do have a dev SharePoint 2010 farm in a similar configuration that I can test migration/upgrade steps. Thanks.

SQL Upgrade and Migration

Hi All

we are running SQL Express 2005 adn aer up to the 2Gb limit for our 2 db's. I have installed MS SCE 2010 on another server and that runs on SQL 2

We are running SQL Express 2005 and are up to the 2Gb limit for our 2 db's (so 4Gb). We need to do some work on them but work keeps failing because of the db size limit. I have installed MS SCE 2010 on another server (2k8 r2) and that runs SQL 2008. What I would like to do is rationalise.

I would like to migrate/move the db’s to the 2008 server, and don’t really know how to start.

I have also encountered a problem in that the current 2005 install which somehow has a NULL password and when I tried to upgrade to SQL Express 2008 I couldn’t proceed because of this.

I could really do with a step by step guide of the process to follow which I think will go something like:

SQL 2005 upgrade to SQL 2008 R2 migration plan

Where can i get a outline for upgrading from 2005 to 2008 r2 (both standard).
The 'Copy Database' from ssms fails when it finds a database role in my 2005 database.  Not sure why.
I tried an IS project to transfer logins and it also fails.
I assume i need to transfer logins w/ sids or they won't match if i detach and copy files.
I had fewer problems moving from 2000 to 2005, sorry, frustrated.

Unattended Installation, a problem with Upgrade property in the ini-file

Hi there,
I'm trying to install several SQL-Server instances on a single machine in a unattended mode. I'm using an INI.File. Normally looks this ini-file by the FIRST SQL-instance like that (a part of it..):

It works fine. Then I start with the next instance of SQL-Server and then get an error:
"Workstation Components, Books Online and Development Tools
Error           : A component that you have specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is already installed. To upgrade the existing component, refer to the template.ini and set the UPGRADE property to the name of the component."

OK, it's clear for me, there is already an instance of SQL-Server on the machine. Then I modified the ini-file and remove the installation items like BOL etc. Now it looks like that:

These changes help not at all - I get still the same error. Ther error says something about "UPGRADE" property. I've tried: UPGRADE=SQL_Books_Online, but this is obviously false.

How to solve this problem?

File Splitter in .Net

I love to do utility programs in .Net. And this is one of them. As I was playing with JSplit (a free file splitter program), I wondered if I could do it in .Net. The framework supports file operations like reading files in bytes and creating them. It is indeed easy to do file operations in .Net Basics on File operations

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

SmtpClient and Locked File Attachments

Got a note a couple of days ago from a client using one of my generic routines that wraps SmtpClient. Apparently whenever a file has been attached to a message and emailed with SmtpClient the file remains locked after the message has been sent. Oddly this particular issue hasn't cropped up before for me although these routines are in use in a number of applications I've built.

How to call an .exe file in .net

Sometimes a developer has to call an EXE from another EXE. While calling EXE there can be a requirement to pass parameter.

SharePoint document migration challenges when migrating files and folders

There are several challenges when migrating documents to Microsoft SharePoint. While these challenges can be overcome, they are a real pain if the migration source, content and file systems are not SharePoint friendly.

ClientAccessPolicy file in SharePoint 2010

I am upgrading my Silverlight demo code from the old beta to beta 2 and see that there are a few new considerations for the deployment of ClientAccessPolicy.xml files. In a previous post I demonstrated how to do this for SharePoint 2007. The heartburn that I get with that approach is any site collection owner or designer can drag the file into the site collection and open the site up to unwanted client access issues. In 2010 the virtual path provider no longer serves the files from the root of the site collection

Multi File Upload Using JQuery!

Everyone knows about the file upload in .NET. But the multi file upload is some what difficult in .NET. For that purpose we can have some AJAX or JQuery!. Jquery is the latest advanced version. It will give some animated upload. You can try it for your own!!!!
