HELP with Code passing data to new page

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi all

Not sure which section of forum this should gi in. I have a gridview in one page and if the user wants to edit a row, I open a new page with a detailsview for editing.

On the new page I have a text box to display the primary key of the record selected from the prior page called Log Number. Then on the new page I have a where clause on the detailview to display the record with the primary key.

The problem I need help with is the code for the findcontrol. I copied from the MSDN site and it does not bring back the selected log number. Please keep in mind I do not do much coding. Thanks in advance.

Here is the code:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
  if (PreviousPage != null)
    Control gridview =
     TextBox source_text =
       (TextBox) gridview.FindControl("log_nbr");
           if (source_text != null)

Exporting data that is in wrong code page in SQL Server

I have problem, when tryin to export data from SQL Server 2005 using Integration Services.

Sql Server has collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS (code page 1252), but the actual data is encoded using code page 1257 (SQL_Latin1_General_CP1257_CI_AS). When I look the data using Management Studio, it is displayed wrongly, but when I convert the string to binary, I can see that bytes are encoded using code page 1257. I'm trying to read this data using SSIS 2005, but extended characters are always handled wrongly.

How should I read this data using SSIS?

My first assumption was changing DefaultCodePage to 1257 in my OLE DB Source component (also AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage to true). But without luck.

Also tried to convert data in my SQL Server query using COLLATE, but didn't work.

Is there something I could do to get it working?

Passing data index to a new page ASP.net 4.0

Note:  I am using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 ASP.net 4.0

I am using a databound gridview1 on default1.aspx page to show a filtered list of data containing only basic data information.

example of headings:

   Event Name, Event Location, Event Date

Once a user sees the event they want more information on, they would select the row using "select" or "hyperlink" (not sure which is best solution).  On the select event user is redirected to "eventinfo.aspx".

On the "eventinfo.aspx" page there is a databound formview.  The formview contains all of the data/information the user would be looking for regarding the selected event.

I cannot figure out how to pass the data index or record ID to the eventinfo.aspx page so the user would see the data for the event they selected.

Thank you for your help on this matter.

Passing Linq Statement between master and content page

I usually work with windows forms, and am just starting to work with ASP.Net, so appologies if this is a dumb question!

I have a master page which has a search button on it. The results of this are built up using a Linq statement and if there are any results, I want to display the results in a contents page.

On the masterpage, I have the following code:

Private _res

    Public Overridable ReadOnly Property SearchRes()
            Return _res
        End Get
    End Property

 Private Sub DoSearch()
   'some code to get a linq result

    If res.Any Then
            _res = res
            Server.Transfer("SearchResults.aspx", True)
            'no results
            LabelNoRes.Visible = True
        End If
 End Sub

On the SearchResults.aspx page I have this code.

Dim m As pxSite = CType(Page.Master, MasterPage)
        If m.SearchRes IsNot Nothing Then
            Label1.Text = "Results found = " & m.SearchRes.Count
        End If

m.searchRes is always nothing.

What am I doing wrong here?

Passing Data to a Cell in Excel

I have a webpage that is created in Visual Studio 2008 and programmed in C#.

I have a web form that prompts the user to enter a value into a text box.  For now, I do not have any validation on that field (I will be adding that later).

I need to pass the value that the user has entered to cell C1 of the excel spreadsheet (user_info.xls).

I understand that using excel is not ideal, but unforutnately need to try to make this work with the excel spreadsheet.

I do not have any code for this yet, because I honestly do not know how to begin.

The action of poulating the excel spreadsheet will be intialized from the On Click event of a Submit button.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance,

If you want to employ unit testing and test-driven development techniques in your database application development process, you'll have different factors to consider than you do when you're not involving a database. For example, you have to maintain a consistent state within the database and be able to roll back transactions when necessary. This article shows you how to get the best of unit testing for your database apps in a safe, usable manner.

Trustworthy Code: Exchange Data More Securely with XML Signatures and Encryption

You can sign any kind of data using XML Signature, including part of an XML document, other XML documents, or other data of any format. However, in practice, XML signatures are most frequently used to sign other data represented in XML. In this article, the authors discuss the new standard and how you can benefit from it in your apps.

Data: More Load, Less Code with the Data Enhancements of ASP.NET 2.0

A data source control is a server control that wraps some basic functions of a data source - be it a SQL Server database, an XML document, an Excel worksheet, or a sitemap description. Through the services of a similar component, data-bound controls can fetch data as well as insert new records or update and delete existing ones. Data source controls enable a consistent model across a variety of data sources and dramatically reduce the amount of code needed to implement a two-way data-binding scenario. This article provides an introduction to data source controls and other related data binding features.

passing page title through a param

Hello all,

   I am new to ASP.NET, and was wondering how to pass a Page title through a parameter.  In classic ASP I could just use something like: <title><%=Pagetitle%></title> but I cannot seem to get this to work in ASP.NET.

How to process data AFTER page is completely loaded for the user?

I have some logging that has to be done, which are some database update or inserts.

However this logging is of no importance to the user, so I only want to process the data/logs after the page is completed for the user.
As of now, if I process the data while the page is loading, I go from 1.4 to 2.0 speed (server side time processing of code), which is quite a bit comparing it is of no use to the user.

So I want this code only executed after that the page is complete.

I've been checking out Ajax, async pages etc, but the problem is it still gets executed before the page is rendered to the client, which means the client will have to wait longer then it is not being processed.

I've been checking out Threadpool.queueBackgroundWorker, however if I get it correct, this will still be executed before the page is shown to the user, as it has to complete before the prerender.

Then I thought about creating a new thread, and do the processing there, which would not have my page waiting to complete the data/logging.
However when I have 100 or 200 users loading pages at the same time, then that would mean I would be creating 200 threads on those loads, which I doubt will be good for performance. So if I want to solve this, I would have to create my own threadpool and only assign for example a max of 40 threads to it which can pr

Trying to run a stored procedure from vb code with oracle data provider.

Here is my SP:

create or replace
 Open p_getuserssignon_recordset1 for
 SELECT Distinct(Userid), UserPassword, SecurityLevel, ActiveStatus
WHERE substr(UserId,1,2) <> vUid
Order By UserId;

I would like to run this SP from code and fill a gridview with the result.

I am not sure how to go about this, as I have found several different examples, other than the one I  think I need.

I am using the oracle data provider and I have an input parameter (vUid, which will equal "zz").

First question. When filling a gridview with a result set from a stored procedure should the recordset OUT be defined as a REFCURSOR (like i did above)?

Do you have example code as to how to execute the SP and fill a gridview?  I keep trying different variations of code i've found on the internet without any success other than getting more confused.

(I am using VS 2005, VB).

Thank you.
