'Add Service Reference' not working for multiple include statements

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF

I'm using VS 2010 (.NET 4.0) and I cannot use 'Add Service Reference' to generate my .NET proxy client since looks like using 'Add Service Reference' (svcutil.exe) option doesn’t work if there are multiple include statements for the schemas in the wsdl. Using "Add Web Reference" (wsdl.exe) option does work to consume this kind of wsdl but having issues passing UsernameToken.

My understanding is it generates WCF client only if 'Add Service Reference' option is used and not 'Add Web Reference'.

The web service is from the 3rd party, so I cannot modify it and they expect UsernameToken in the SOAP header.

Here’s the url to get the package that co

Deploy XBAP application with WCF Service Reference into multiple environments

Hi, we have a multiple environment setup (local, Development servers, QA servers, prod servers, etc.) and we are building an XBAP application that uses WCF Services to connect to databases.  We code and unit test everything locally and then deploy to our Development servers for more thorough unit testing.  The issue that we are having is that we don't see how to update the deployed XBAP application to use the Development server deployed WCF Service.  The only way we've been able to do this is by having to change the reference on my local machine, complie, and redeploy the XBAP.Question:  How do we configure a deployed XBAP's Service Reference to point to the same service on a different server than what it was originally compiled/deployed with?  (Like in some configuration file...NOTE: but we also don't see a config file after deploying the XBAP.)  We don't want to have to update the Service Reference for QA, Prod, Training, Stage, etc. on our local machines, compile and redeploy every time we need to migrate the application to a new environment.Thanks!

Add Service Reference causes multiple definition of my DataContracts

Hi experts,

Can anyone please explain me why when I use Add Service Reference for this WCF service:, VS just doesn't create a proxy? all it does is to create two sets of each class I have as data contract!!!!

for example if I had used a class named Subscriber in my service, VS generates two classes as follows: Subscriber & Subscriber1 without creating client class!

I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 .Net4

my server configuration is as below:

			<service name="BPCo.Hotbilling.Servers.SSPProxy" behaviorConfiguration="

Web service taking XML doc as argument, how to reference/include XSD schema (describing document) in

Hi All,

Apologies if the question has been asked before but I've done a search and wasn't able to find an answer.

Our web application (hosted in IIS) exposes a WCF web service which takes an XML document as an argument, that document should confirm to a (public) XSD schema already defined in our application.

Current the contract looks as follows

void LoadData(string identifier, byte[] xmlData)

We've got a MEX (meta-data exchange) endpoint set up so that clients can use something like svcutil.exe or WcfTestClient to discover the service details.

<s:Envelope xmlns:s="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
  <Action s:mustUnderstand="1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ws/2005/05/addressing/none">http://tempurg.org/WebServices/LoadService</Action>
  <LoadData xmlns="http://tempurg.org/WebServices/LoadService/LoadData">
   <identifier d4p1:nil="true" xmlns:d4p1="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" />

However, this doesn't give the client a clue as to what the XML document (byte[]) should look like/conform to. What app

A little background because I feel I have an out of the ordinary architecture in place and don't know if this is contributing to the problem.

We have an existing ASP.net application that is undergoing expansion.  The new functionality is all written in Silverlight 4.  As part of that expansion I gutted all the old Linq to SQL and put Entity Framework 4 into place.  To do this I created a standard .net Class Library and added my edmx files there.  Naturally, the business entities created by this cannot be used in Silverlight.  So I created a Silverlight Class Library and added all the business entities to that Silverlight Class Library as linked files.  I changed the name space to be the same.

So I have the following assembly / namespaces

Company.Project.Dal.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (.net 4 class library)

Company.Project.Entities.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (SL4 class library)

With this architecture I was able to share my business entities with my SL enabled web services, my asp.net projects, my silverlight projects.  Really it's a beautiful thing.

Once this was done I added "message" classes to Company.Project.Dal and again shared them with the other entites using linked files.  These messages are things like MyObjectRequest; they are class

Include a Crystal Report in .NET Web Service for Dynamic In-Memory-Only DataSet

I would like to use Crystal Reports in a .NET web service.  Ultimately I would like to convert my report document to a PDF and then return the PDF as a byte array.

My .NET DataSet is generated dynamically at run-time.  It consists of four related tables.  Since my DataSet does not have a physical datasource, I created an XML Schema file.  I then added the XML Schema file to the web service project with Add Existing Item.

A solution for working with a dynamic in-memory DataSet exists for ASP.NET web sites and client-based forms.  I tried to use this method as it is published.  When that didn't work I tried creating the report and XML Schema directly in the web service project, but that also didn't work.

The problem is apparent when you try to set the datasource.......the code bombs on the call to SetDataSource(DataSet) with the message
ex = {"The data source object is invalid."}

Crystal Reports would save me a lot

Multiple services in REST Collection WCF Service?

After I create a "REST Collection WCF Service" project, it contains one service "service.svc". Can I add multiple services to this project? There must be a way to do so. Otherwise, it does not make sense to create one project for each service.

My question is how to add a new service to an existing "REST Collection WCF Service" project?

Thanks a lot.

Multiple statements in SSCE 3.5 SP2?

Hi all, I'm just wondering whether it's possible at all to execute multiple statements & multiple heterogeneous statements using the semicolon (";") separator.  SSCE balks at it right now if I issue via ADO.NET command text similar to the following (line separator is your typical \r\n): insert into Foo (id, name) values (1, 'foo1'); insert into Bar (id, name) values (1, 'bar1'); update Goo g set g.name = 'Goo1', g.fooId = 1, g.barId = 1 where id = 1; SQL Server Management Studio executes it just fine, which led me to believe that I could do it via ADO.NET. Can someone who knows please clarify?  What do I have to do in order to batch commands to ADO.NET? Thanks, Matthew

Cannot get service reference for Net.tcp service hosted in IIS7

HiI've got a service that I want to host in IIS7. The service runs over net.tcp (currently without security), but I am unable to create a service reference to it, or call it, using the net.tcp protocol. My event log is populated with lots of errors related to ASP.NET and System.ServiceModel, relevant services are installed and running (net.tcp port sharing service and net.tcp listener adapter).O/S : Window7 RTMDevStudio: 2008I publish the webservice to IIS7 and I get a valid page when navigating to the published .svc file (which tells me to use svtutil.exe and point it at the net.tcp endpoint).For that, I get this error :    The message could not be dispatched because the service at the endpoint address 'net.tcp://gedm-desktop.profiledc01.appdevelop.local/ManageAVMEP/ManageAVMAgent.svc/mex' is unavailable for the protocol of the address.Googling the problem leads me down several blind alleys :(I cannot determine what is causing the net.tcp listener to keep stopping? Everything is fine if I use the wsHttpBinding.Any tips or pointers to a course of action would be appreciated.ThanksGed My event log is full of errors (here is a sample) :-------An error occurred while trying to listen for the URL '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT/ManageAVMEP'. working with multiple data sets

i am new to ssrs and looking for guidance : i need to develop a report based on multiple tables: general ledger, customer ledger and customer master... the purpose of report is to have customer segment wise sales and expense information.... for given month and YTD. customer segments are defined in customer master, sales is in customer ledger and expenses are in general ledger.. the problem i am facing are: 1. I need to display all customer segments, and if no sales /expenese for any segment, then show 0 values.. .however, if i join tables and apply WHERE clause for date..i am missing some segments due to lack of data within where condition 2. i believe having subqueries is expensive when u r dealing with millon records. further i want to know how to have a calculated field based on two different dataset fields.

WCF Service not working with ToolkitScriptManager

Back in the "old days" one would use the <asp:ScriptManager></asp:ScriptManager> and <asp:ServiceReferenc /> to allow for WCF Service integration into javascript on web forms.  Example: <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server">     <Services>         <asp:ServiceReference Path="~/Services/Service1.svc" />     </Services> </asp:ScriptManager> Now we are to use the <AjaxControlToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager></AjaxControlToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager> to accomplish the same task, but this doesn't seem to be working. Example: <AjaxControlToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager ID="ToolkitScriptManager1" runat="server">     <Services>        <asp:ServiceReference Path="~/Services/Service1.svc" />     </Services> </AjaxControlToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager> The former works. while the latter does not. Any suggestions? Exposing WCF Service for multiple clients with the feature of multiple database support

Sharepoint Search and Secure Store Service not working

Hi There I am having issues with a few Sharepoint Services When I try to search for a document on any SharePoint site, I recieve an "Internal Server Error Exception". However when I checked the log files, I couldn't find any error messages matching with the given correlation ID. The search was working 2-3 weeks ago. Also 2 weeks ago, I started receiving warnings in the Health Analyzer saying “The Security token service is not available”. I am wondering if the security token service breaking down is related to the search issues, and if so what suggestions I could try to fix this issue. I am also unable to access the secure store service. In Central Administration->Application Management->Manage Service Applications, I try to click on the Secure Store Service, but there is no Proxy attached to the service, and I receive a message “No Secure Store Service Application Proxy ID was found”. When I check the Logfile, I receive these errors: 08/10/2010 11:11:32.94               w3wp.exe (0x18E4)                                      0x0ADC SharePoint Foundation     &nb

Multiple sql-statements in one transaction

Hi - I've two sql-statements - two inserts statements.The first one creates a person and the next creates an entry in another table with the person id as reference - everything works fine but I've been looking at my code and would like to know how I should wrap it up before firing the statements.I keep it all in one transaction - if the creating of the person fails or the other operation I need to rollbackMy question is:Should I use the same SqlCommand object to fire both statements? At this point I create a new instance for each statement - but isn't it possibly to use the same SqlCommand object, the same SqlConnection and wrap it into the same SqlTransaction?What is best practise in situations like this?

ScriptManager CompositeScript Error: A script reference cannot be included multiple times in composi

I am getting the following error using the CompositeScript feature of the ScriptManager.  I have ScriptManagerProxy in several different usercontrols that use CompositeScript to add whatever JS files they need.  Sometimes there are duplicates which would get removed by the script manager, but that is not happening with the Composite Scripts.  Looking at the stack trace, it calls RemoveDuplicates but for some reason it doesn't do so.  Is this a bug?  Is there a workaround or a hotfix? Thanks! A script reference cannot be included multiple times in composite script references.
