WPF Textbox loses original values, even if the user doesn't udpate

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Hi,

I am having a very strange issue. I have a datagrid which is binding to an observable collection of type Person The selected item is bind to an Object Person. I have 2 textboxes firstname and lastname. When ever user selects an item from grid, the textbox values gets populated. user can edit the values and click submit button, values gets updated.

Source to Target works correctly - i.e. able to display from viewModel When I update the values gets updated.

Lets say user selected an item with firstname john, lastname smith The problem is user edits the firstname to johnny and he doesn't click submit button instead he selects a different item from datagrid, so when I go back to the original selected item. In the grid the selected item is shown as John smith, but in the textbox the value is shown as Johnny smith.

How to solve this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Retain DropDown,TextBox's previously selected values after redirected from another page.

 Hi People, How are you all doing?

I have 2 pages one is SearchPage & It has DropDowns, textboxes to specify the search criteria. From the search result the user is redirected to another page when he clicks the hyperlink in the search result  where he fills in the information and again redirected to SearchPage. Now the SearchPage is posted back with no state i just want to retain the search criteria and display when user comes back. Please give me some suggestion how to get this done. I've used ViewState to save the values and check them in Page_Load but they are null.

Thanks

Abid

 Update: I've come up with this code. But the problem is The values are being retained but the Button_Click event is not being handled properly. When i Check the code even after this "DropDownList1.SelectedValue = Session["Name"].ToString();" DownList1.SelectedValue is EMPTY"" samw with DropDownList2 . please Suggest something

    protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        if (IsControlsEmpty())
        {
            if (SessionExist())
            {
                DropDownList1.SelectedValue = Session["Name"].ToString()

Values in user control fields empty when AutoEventWireup=true ?

As a BizTalk developer I'm trying to build a ASP.NET website so some obvious things might be new to me (so please be gentle). I have a web form and I have a user control on it. This user control contains a panel with some user properties that are to be stored in a database. So far nothing fancy. The user control itself contains a panel and is working fine (all code to retrieve and store the values is working). I used the default settings of creating a user control and one of them was AutoEventWireup=true. This works fine because I also have some dropdown boxes (and other fields) that need to be filled with values from the database and that happens in the Page_load event. The panel specifies the 'DefaultButton' which calls a method when clicked to save the values after the user has changed them. On this click the code of the method is called, I confirmed that, but I found out that the values of my controls on the user control (for example the Textbox control) are empty. As a non-ASP.NET developer I couldn't figure out why. So I changed some settings like AutoEventWireup to false. Off course this resulted in my dropdown boxes no longer to be initially filled, but my surprise was big to find out my controls actually contained the values the user typed in. Logically I need both the values and th

Why does MVC2 reset my Context.User but MVC1 doesn't?

The question comes from a previous thread, but I would like to ask a more specific question from anyone in the know.Why does MVC2 reset my Context.User, discarding changes made in Application_AuthenticateRequest but MVC1 does not?Repro is pretty simple:Start an MVC1 and MVC2 new project. In both of them add the following code in global.asax: protected void Application_AuthenticateRequest(Object sender, EventArgs e) { if (Context.Request.IsAuthenticated) { FormsIdentity ident = (FormsIdentity)Context.User.Identity; Context.User = new System.Security.Principal.GenericPrincipal(ident, new[] { "FooAdmin" }); bool result = User.IsInRole("FooAdmin"); } } // break hereNow in both HomeController.cs files change the Index Action to: public ActionResult Index() { bool result = User.IsInRole("FooAdmin"); ViewData["Message"] = ""; // break here return View(); }Deploy to IIS, attach debugger on the "// break here" lines and then login to each site in turn.You should find that under MVC1 the result variable at both breakpoints is true, but in MVC2 it is false in the Index action.Anybody have any idea why? Is this a bug or by design? Any way around it?

User fills in the (different) values

Hello, I'm kinda new to this forum and Reporting Services. I wonder if it is possible to let the user fill in a value in a cell of a table. I'll explain some more. You have 3 columns in a report. One column shows numeric data, the second column is blank and the third column shows the sum of the first two colums. Now the user has to fill in the second column himself so that the third column gets calculated. Is this possible?    thx in advance

SSRS Report based on SSAS Cubes doesn't show NULL values correctly

I have a SSRS report which is based on an SSAS Cube. In the Cube the formating of numeric fields that NULL values are properly shown as NULL values. In the Cube Browser and Excel this is shown correctly. However when I design the report already the query against SSAS shows these fields as "0" instead of NULL. Is there a way to fix this or is this a bug ?

keep values in textbox in gridview whilst paging

Hi,   I have a gridview in my webpage which has paging enabled. There are around 5 textboxes in a row and when I enter some text and then move to another page and move back to the page I entered the values in, they are not lost. I have enabled the viewstate in the gridview. I have implemented a datatable to my grid which should hold the values in the viewstate. This worked before I added paging. Please can someone offer some advice as to how I can maintain the values in textboxes whilst moving between different pages? I have tried searching it but I can't seem to find any relevant info.   Thank you very much.

Custom Validator on DDL&Textbox values

I need to write a 2 custom validators that works as follows: I have a formview (Formview1) with an EditItemTemplate. The validators need to validate values in "DropDownList1" and a textbox called "EndUserGUIDTextBox" If the value in DDL1 is ("Assigned" or "Assigned to End User") and the value of EndUserGUIDTextBox is ("unassigned" or "pending" or NULL) then I need a validator to fire and return {"GUID must be assigned when status is" & DLL1 value}. If the value in DDL1 is ("In Stock" or "In Repair") and EndUserGUIDTextBox is NOT ("unassigned" or "pending" or NULL), then I need a validator to fire and return {"GUID must not be assigned when status is" & DLL1 Value}. The validators needs to run and show in the formview when the UpdateButton in my Formview is clicked. I'm doing this in VB. Real noobie here! All help appreciated. Thanks,

Validating Textbox for Numeric Values

I want to validate a textbox that only a numeric currency value can be put into it, for example 0.00. I thought the following code was correct but it doesnt seem to wrk, its causing an error on my page and when I remove it the page is fine, it doesn't actually give exact details of the error on the page just says "syntax error" in the browser that is all.<asp:CustomValidator runat="server" ErrorMessage="Please enter a numeric value for Night Rate in the format of 0.00" ID="NightRateNum" ControlToValidate="txtNightRate" Text="*" ClientValidationFunction="^\d+(\.\d\d)?$"></asp:CustomValidator>Would appreciate if any can tell me where I went wrong Thanks

Pass values between user controls on 2 different aspx pages

I have 2 user controls that is hosted by 2 different aspx pages.example: srcpage.aspx --> hosts the --> sourceusercontrol.ascxanddestpage.aspx --> hosts the --> destinationusercontrol.ascxI would like the values in the text fields of the sourceusercontrol.ascx to be passed on to the labels in the destinationusercontrol.ascx. I have gone through the MSDN ASP.Net examples and i was able to successfully pass values between two aspx page using the postback URL functionality, but cannot do the same thing with the usercontrols on 2 different aspx pages. Any suggestions would be helpfull....! Thanks..!

user control doesn't databind

I reference a user control in my ListView in this manner:<Prf:gradyr ID="GradYrE" runat="server" />This is the user control that's referenced:<asp:Panel ID="pnlGradYr" Visible="true" runat="server"> <div class="label"> <asp:Label ID="lblGradYr" Text="DNHS Grad Year:" runat="server" /> </div> <div class="ctrl"> <asp:TextBox ID="txtGradYr" Text='<%#Bind("GradYr")%>' TabIndex="5" runat="server" /> </div> <div class="req"> <asp:Label ID="lblGradYr_Req" Text="*" ForeColor="#FF0000" runat="server" /> </div> </asp:Panel> The problem is that the #Bind command doesn't update the database, but it does so when I paste the code directly into the aspx page (in other words, without the user control involved). Any suggestions?
