Can't generate the Wiki site from a customized wiki template

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I made a template with data from my Wiki site within an external sharepoint site.

Then, moved it to the internal sharepoint site, site templates. I was able to see the template in the custom tab during creation of the new wiki site.

I get this error:     The template you have chosen is invalid or cannot be found.

The settings is available.

Made changes to the master file to be same as the parent site. did not work

copy the master page to the site template. directly selected that file. did not work

restored the default. did not work.

I get error 404 when I access the wiki site.

any idea how should i restore a wiki site?

Adding a custom control to the SharePoint 2010 Team Site Wiki Page Template ( wkpstd.aspx ) programm

Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required   If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ <SharePoint:EmbeddedFormField ID="WikiField" FieldName="WikiField" ControlMode="Display" runat="server" /> We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor

Sharepoint 2007 - Wiki site - New Pages Not Inheriting Custom Master Page

I am working on a SP site (MOSS not WSS) which is heavily customised away from the OOTB layout. I need to create a Wiki site, which was going well - I've created a master page which displays the miniconsole (this was not visible with our customised layout), and made it the default master page for the site. This has been applied to the two standard pages that come with the Wiki site, however when a new page is created, it seems to inherit the default.master, rather than my custom master page - thus not showing the miniconsole.

When I have created a new page, I am able to use SharePoint Designer to attach my custom master page to it, which works perfectly, however this will not be a viable option going forward as end-users create their new wiki pages.

How can I get the new pages to inherit my master page when they are created?

SharePoint Wiki HowTo Template

was wondering if anyone has or has suggestion on the following:

we are contemplating creating a wiki type howto for our users which needs to be categoriesed into permission level (eg user, super user, admin).

We would quite like to have the ability to add content, and then link the relevent catories to it (done via a lookup at moment).

And relevent video (e.g embeded you tube).

The video part I am thinking of a library with a field type that allows embed (do you know of any?).  On the wiki page I quite like it if the video would show rather an having to navigate to them, but doubt this is possible.

I know wiki can't have a uniformed template due to the way they are produced and web parts have to be added manually.  Does this mean are idea would maybe be better as a publishing site with a custom template?

Wiki site categorization and isolation

Our business folks are looking to have enterprise Wiki site to categorize based on departments. Person from one department should not be able to contribute and/or create pages for other departement. What are the ways to implement this in SP2010? We would prefer out-of-box ways since we are too small team to mainatain much customization. Thanks, Hemlata

Issues with Enterprise Wiki Sites unavailable when create Intranet Team Site

I have created Enterprise Wiki Sites and have created an Extranet Team Site and was able to create an Enterprise Wiki Site as well with it but for some reason I do not have the ability or option to create an Enterprise Wiki Site or even page when I have a Team Site on an Intranet.  I have turned on all of the publishing features but the only wiki item available to me is the wiki library.

I'm assuming I must have to activate or deactivate some other feature but I have no idea which one.

Move a wiki library? (Save wiki as template/download wiki page)

Hi all,

I'm using SharePoint Foundation and there is no option to save a wiki library as a template, and the Download a copy control is disabled for the wiki pages. Is this normal? Is there anyway to save a wiki as a template?

Or, is there a different way to move an entire wiki library to a new site collection? The old, easy way was save it as a template and use that template in another site. Am I missing something?

Thanks for your time.

I cannot add a dynamic table inside a Wiki or import a template.

Hello, I Have created a Wiki inside a Sharepoint 2007 site and have created five pages inside this Wiki.   Now I am trying to use a template but there is nowhere that I can import a template. Also, when I attempt to create a dynamic table on one of my Wiki pages, the dialog box which comes up only asks me for the number of columns and rows.  The 'SharePoint How To' book that I am using as an instruction guide is telling me that a dialog box should come up with several parameters, including number of columns, rows, height, depth and formatting - I'm not getting this dialog box.

So, I'm wondering if someone can tell me why:

(a) I can't get a dynamic table into the site where users can add rows and columns.

(b) I can't import a template into the Wiki so we can use a solution that works.

(c) My functionality is restricted. Do I need to be using SharePoint Designer to get this level of functionality?

I'd really appreciate any references which would help me solve this problem.

Thanks for your help.

How to provision a WIKI site as a sub site in a custom Site definition?

Hi all,

I have a custom Site definition which is made up of team Site Template(STS). In that I have populated lists and content types according to my requirement. Now I need to provision a WIKI site as a sub site in that Definition. I have used Provision data attribute of Configuration element in webtemp file and defined structure for it. But my site is not being created. The same approach is working with default Publishing sites provided by MOSS 2007(Publishing and collaboration Portals). I suspect that Publishing feature needs to be activated in my template before using provisioning attribute. Is that true. If yes please throw some light on that process. if no, guide me through the next possible solution.

Can only edit a page in a Wiki site in raw HTML

A particular user can logon to SharePoint 2007 companyweb site Wiki and create a new page. However, when he tries to edit the page (or any page) it opens up the editor in raw HTML only. He cannot get the wysiwyg (rich text?) editor. He is using IE7 but the same happens in all browsers. Any ideas?? THanks!

Customized Sharepoint Wiki Library

Hi All,

I created a customized Sharepoint Wiki Page Library, with the Template type 1119. The Wiki Library is created fine but the HomePage and the How to use the Wiki Library pages are not created. I have checked in the Sharepoint Wiki Feature, even they don't provision any pages via feature. I see the pages provisioned only if you create a Wiki site. How does Sharepoint creating default pages from feature when a wiki library is creating.

Any Idea please help!

Thanks in advance

Wiki page customization

I am using a wiki library. I added one multiline field to this library and one date column.

1. How can i control number of lines entered in the multiline text box? By specifying the no. of lines only displays small textbox it doesn't stop us entering more.
2. When the user goes for edit i wanted the date column in the top. How do i acheive this ?

Custom tree view for navigating wiki pages

I'm creating an information resource on our intranet (WSS 3.0) using the wiki style format.  The only trick is, unlike a standard wiki, where all pages are directly under the parent, I want to be able to create a customizable tree view where some pages are nested underneath each other.  For example, this particular site talks about all of our different IT systems.  I'll have a wiki page for each system, then underneath each of those pages, there will be more pages for things like training, documentation, etc.  Even though all those pages are at the same level, I need to be able to nest them in a navigational tree view on the quick launch bar.  I suppose if there were also a way to nest the wiki pages themselves, I could just use the pre-packaged tree view.  Anyone have any ideas?

how to add a wiki page as a web part

Hi All,

I have created a feature that generates a page and adds a content editor web part, links web part (using elements.xml). Everything works fine but I would like to replace content editor web part with a wiki page that I am going to create.

For example, I copied an excerpt from elements.xml file that adds a content editor web part for the page.

<Module Path="Dependencies/Pages" Url="">
  <File Url="default.aspx" Type="Ghostable">
   <!-- Add the Rich Content Text Editor web part -->
   <AllUsersWebPart WebPartZoneID="Right" WebPartOrder="1">
          <WebPart xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WebPart/v2" xmlns:iwp="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WebPart/v2/ContentEditor">
            <Assembly>Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c</Assembly>
            <Title>Executive Summary</Title>

 Can someone tell me how I can add a wiki page using manifest (elements.xml) file or some other way?

publicly publish some data from wiki pages

We have internal sharepoint site for the staffs which also has wiki pages. We want that wiki pages as public; publish some data from wiki pages.

To do this, one of my friend suggest me to do this:

"For exposing stuff publicly from SharePoint, you can do it using the SOAP interface from SharePoint and using .NET to make an app to read it. "

I'm just beginner of the sharepoint and I'm unable to follow his suggestion. This is not the easy step.

Is anybody has some thoughts, ideas and some samples, if possible that would be great ?

I really appreciated. Thanks in advance.
