3rd Party Administration

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

We are planning a new implementation of SharePoint 2010 which will eventually have ~4000 users. It has been suggested (by some prior MOSS2007 admins) that we purchase a 3rd party administration tool. I'm wondering if this is necessary with 2010 or if the out-of-the-box admin tools in 2010 would be sufficient. Any advice would be appreciated.

Intermittant error: "A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respon

Greetings,

I'm having a doozy of a problem, and can't find a solution.  I have a WFC Web Service installed to a pair of servers, and accessed through a load balancer.  I am accessing the service from an ASP.NET client app, also via WCF.  The Client is not load balanced.

I'm getting an intermittant error:

(Inner Most Exception) System.Net.Sockets.SocketException:  A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond x.x.x.x:80

(Middle Exception) System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server

(Outer Exception) System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException:  Could not connect to http://<MYSite>/<MYApp>/<MYService>.svc. TCP error code 10060: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond x.x.x.x:80.

I can reproduce this error with about 20% reliability if I execute the exact same page request on the client from 2 browsers at the same time.  When the problem occurs, the successful p

Security negotiation failed because the remote party did not send back a reply in a timely manner. T

Turning off Crawling the Central Administration site?

There are 2 places that "Search Visibility" can be set on WSS3 servers:

Default > Site Settings > Search Visibility

Central Administration > Site Settings > Search Visibility

What are the ramifications of "hiding" the Central Administration site from search?

Here is the situation , although I have SBS server 2008 I posted this same problem there , but I want here also to ask.

I followed link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd548330(WS.10).aspx and here are the  results.

In SBS console there is companyweb and it is marked as online. DNS also has entry for companyweb and nslookup works.  When I try to recreate internal website , which is described as 2nd step, my IIS server  is started, in IIS7 my website is running, but when I try to see in central administration if my site exist (web application list)  it isn't listed. So I tried to recreate it and I  followed directions from upper link in section repair user access to the internal website but when I want to delete web site , it is not listed. And after when I want to extend I cannot once again because it is not listed. Any suggestions and is there an

Hiiii

I am creating an application for bulk mailing. Its on my subdomain.

The functionality i require here is I need to copy an html file located in different subdomains on my production server to my bulk mailing application.

I am using HttpWebRequest for the purpose where I take the url of the page into a text box and create a HttpWebrRequest.

The code is as simple as follows.

HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest) WebRequest.Create("http://mydomainorsubdomain.com/dir1/page.html");

and this is working fine on my local development environment that is in VS2010

but when i put code to production server it is throwing following error.

3rd party cookies, proxies, and you.

I have an intranet site that is used to pull several other intranet applications/tools and database info to one place. One of the most popular features uses iFrames and jQuery tabs to give a broad overview of activities, signal etc in a network node.  Chrome and Firefox eat it up with no problems, IE will work if you override the cookie policies that restrict 3rd party cookies without a valid p3p (what a worthless standard).  IE also works if you already authenticated yourself on the individual sites and the session cookies are still valid. It's gaining popularity outside the original small intended audience, and I can't expect everyone to override their privacy settings or expect IT to push the sites out to exception lists on all PCs in the company. Before someone chimes in with "just add protected void Application_BeginRequest(object sender, EventArgs e) { HttpContext.Current.Response.AppendHeader("p3p", "CP=\"IDC DSP COR ADM DEVi TAIi PSA PSD IVAi IVDi CONi HIS OUR IND CNT\""); } to your global .asax", I have ZERO control of the child site., so regular 'ol p3p settings ain't gonna cut it.After wasting over two days with it and getting behind on more important matters, I figure my options at this point areSomehow inject p3p into the header of the child site just before iFrame renders. ASP.net Web Site Administration tool unable to connect ro my SQL DB

Hi, I am new to VWD and i am trying to use the Provider Configuration in the ASP.net Web Site Administration tool to configure my Web site management data. When ever i select the "Select a single provider for all site management data" there is only one provider "AspNetSqlProvider". When i select "test" it give me the following error message: "Could not establish a connection to the database. If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider." I have the aspnet_regsql to create a DB, my IIS is already installed and enable but the VWD ASP.net Web Site Administration tool refuse to connect to my SQL DB.What may be the problem and how can i rectify it.Thanks

Can Web Services be blocked by Central administration ?

I am a Site Collection administrator. I am thinking of using Web Services (_vti_bin/Lists.asmx etc.,) and display some data regarding Lists, Permissions, SubSites on some pages. My question is whether accessing these web services at site level can be blocked by central administration or not. If they cannot be blocked, then I would like to go forward on what I have mentioned above. Can anyone please clarify. Thanks.

Central Administration no longer accessible by any account after changing Farm Account in SharePoint

I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. I was running installation of Sharepoint 2010 Server with administrative account ImTheAdmin, who is a Domain Admin in the MYDOMAIN domain. Using ImTheAdmin I installed Sharepoint 2010 on one of the Windows 2008 R2 member servers. Besides that, I made ImTheAdmin the primary administrator of the Sharepoint. ImTheAdmin became the only user of this Sharepoint 2010 server after installation.  I installed everything on one box with default installation settings. I used builtin SQL server, not Standard or Enterprise. What then happened is: Using ImTheAdmin account, I opened Central Administration Website, and it said, that I need to change the Farm Account, as the account for Farm was the default one (I think it was network service). So I created a regular domain user in AD Users and Computers called MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount. Then using IE, I went to the Central Administration Website page, which is meant for changing farm account usernames. I put in MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pressed Change. Browser worked for a while, and after that nothing seemed to work. Neither my Sharepoint, nor Central Administration website. When going to Central Administra

Failed to change Farm Account in Sharepoint 2010 server, now Central Administration is not accessibl

Hello, I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. So I created a regular domain user MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount. The account name was too long to be as a Windows 2000 name, so it showed there without last 't', e.g. MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccoun. I thought, Windows 2000 is long gone, so I didn't pay much attention, I think everywhere the account SID is important. I don't know if that is the real problem with my failure later, but it might be one of the reasons. I put MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pre

Claims to windows token service wont start in Central administration

Not sure if this is a bug or some setting I just dont understand but I cannot get the claims to windows token service from manage services to show as started. When I click start I get this error in the event viewer: An attempt to start/stop instance of service Claims to Windows Token Service on server <SERVERNAME> did not succeed. Re-run the action via UI or command line on the specified server. Additional information is below. c2wts (DOMAIN\sp_farm) I have searched and searched for an answer. This thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/6b865ead-970b-4460-9dcf-1cc6d6d8530b talks about needing a connection to the internet, but my server is connected to the internet so i think i can rule that out. Also I have read that c2wts depends on the crypto service. I have run this command with no success: sc config c2wts depend= cryptsvc I can start the c2wts service through services.msc and it is succesful. But central administration still shows it is stopped. I have also re-run the installer in repair mode, and re-run the initial configuration wizard, maintaining all of the same settings as the previous installation. That didn't help. Basically, I'm out of ideas and I cant find much about this on the web. Any ideas?

Search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component

I encounter the error above when trying to set up Sharepoint Server Search. I have tried both setting up search manually through Central admin (just selecting default for everything) as well as through Powershell (using this: http://stsadm.blogspot.com/2009/12/creating-sharepoint-2010-enterprise.html). I'm using the farm admin as Search account as well as account for Application pools, so I guess permissions should not be the issue.Creating new Search service application seems to be successful, but when going to Searchadministration after creation, then System status displays the error above. Event log does add any info and just displays same error message ("SearchApi.cs throws exception:The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component 'db397ab0-d9b0-46c4-9077-dc8be62bf586' in search application 'TNS Enterprise Search Service Application' is in a good state and try again."). I have found this http://blog.fpweb.net/sharepoint-2010-server-search-troubleshooting/ stating that the solution is not to use MSDN version of Windows 2008, but does give any explanation why.Any ideas would be appriciated.Best regardsThomas

Central Administration Could not retrieve ISAPI filters

I am having trouble with CA. When I try to open it errors pops up in event viewer  - Could not load all ISAPI filters for site 'SHAREPOINT CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION V3'.  Therefore site startup aborted. - The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed. Fix the errors and try the update again. Context: Application 'Search', Catalog 'index file on the search server Search' SO I wanted to add those filters and I went to ISAPI filters of CA but whe I try to open ISAPI , I receive following error  Filename \\?\C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config , line number 3155 Cannot add duplicate collection entry of type 'filter' with unique key attribute 'name' set to 'ASP.Net_2.0.50727'  Config Source:  <isapiFilters>                 <filter name="ASP.NET_2.0.50727.0"  path="C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_filter.dll"  enableCache="true" preCondition="bitness32"/> <filter name="ASP.NET_2.0.50727.0"  path="C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_filter.dll"  enableCache="true" preCondition="bitness64"/>             </isapiFilters>
