Full Farm Backup Fails on Windows Sharepoint Services Search Database

I am just now starting to us central administration to backup the entire sharepoint farm.  All content backups fine except for the Search Database.  In looking through the backup log, it appears that the search database may not exist.  How can I determine if the search database actually does exist and if it does not can it be recreated?

"Fields and Content Types for the Windows SharePoint Services Application Templates"

Installation of Server Admin "Fabulous 40" Templates -

I saw a new feature appear after the templates were installed by our farm administrator. I didn't see anything in the documentation about it, but it seems like I should activate it.

Should I activate the "Fields and Content Types for the Windows SharePoint Services Application Templates" feature?

Are there any drawbacks?

Any other words of wisdom?

But getting error:- Provision of service failed. Additional information: 1387.

Checked eventvwr and found below error log:-

An attempt to start/stop instance  of service Windows SharePoint Services Web Application on server <servername> did not succeed. Re-run the action via UI or command line on the specified server.

None of the sites are working and I cannot see anything in the IIS folder nor in the IIS manager. All application folders are missing. But, I can see all the sites & Content databasesin the Central Admin.

How to make Windows SharePoint Services use a preexisting database as the content database

From the link below. I am trying to find in Central Administration the following:

  • Replace each instance of AdminVsAppPoolIdentity in the query with the account that is the SharePoint Central Administration virtual server application pool identity. This account is also the database owner (dbo) of the database.
  • Replace each instance of ContentVsAppPoolIdentity in the query with the account that is the content virtual server application pool identity.

Where do I find the AdminVsAppPoolIdentity and ContentVsAppPoolIdentity ??

Windows Live Small Business and SharePoint Services Back-End Database

According to the Windows Live Small Business (WLSB) help content, there is a means to setup a survey that will allow you to use Sharepoint list data from the back-end of a WLSB web site to validate an entry from a front-end web site answer. If this is still possible, is there any current detail information that demonstrates a step by step approach to how it can be done. The usefullness of this solution would aid in web page development allowing for the developer to have a landing page in which a client or customer could fill out a survey, enter their client identification number, and then have the Sharepoint list data on the back-end validate the user's id so that if the id is not a valid pre-pitted id entry or storage of the survey entry could be declined.

Do any of you have knowledge that you could share in order to solve this solution delima?

Getting Started with Windows SharePoint Services

Of all of the capabilities of SharePoint, I thought I would start with the most basic installation - as a corporate intranet. It is likely that we will need to discuss some of the elements of SharePoint as we go along, so this also gives us the opportunity to review these elements for future reference.

Before going into too much detail, I would like to point out that you can try the core SharePoint framework (known as Windows SharePoint Services or WSS) for free. On Microsoft's Web site you can download a trial version of Virtual PC 2004 (VPC). Using VPC, you can install the Windows 2003 Evaluation Kit and the WSS add-on. This combination will give you 45 days to evaluate the setup.

Building a Searchable Phone Directory with Windows SharePoint Services

I want to continue to build out the intranet site we've started in our previous articles. A standard item in every intranet is a staff/employee list. Most companies implementing Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) are large enough to have a database that contains all employees. We will use the aggregation features of SharePoint to include data from this database into our intranet.

New Features in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3.0) is the next version of WSS 2.0, released on 2007, and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007) is built on top of this. Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 takes full advantage of Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 and the core Microsoft .NET 2.0 runtime. WSS 3.0 offers a lot of new features and programmability support. I have consolidated a list of new features and enhancements in the below section:

Take Control: Use SharePoint to Manage Your Windows Services

In this article, we show you how to integrate a Windows Services-based solution with SharePoint. The results enable you to provision, start, stop, and remove service instances through SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.

SharePoint: Add a Recycle Bin to Windows SharePoint Services for Easy Document Recovery

Windows SharePoint Services helps improve collaboration and workflow while protecting documents and intellectual property. But one feature is conspicuously missing - an easy way to back up and restore deleted files from document libraries. In this article, the authors take advantage of the extensibility of WSS and its server-side and client-side object models to build a restore feature that works like the Recycle Bin in Windows Explorer.

Web Parts: Use Windows SharePoint Services as a Platform for Building Collaborative Apps, Part 2

Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, which is part of the Office System, lets you create and manage virtual servers, site collections, sites, workspaces, and users. You can also use the Windows SharePoint Services object model to design and implement user-targeted applications. In the second part of a two part series, the authors take a look at the WSS and SPS object models, Web Part Page anatomy, creating and deploying Web Parts, and Web Part security. They also discuss Web Part infrastructure and how to create custom Web Parts.

SharePoint: Use Windows SharePoint Services as a Platform for Building Collaborative Applications

In this article the authors provide an in-depth examination of the architecture of SharePoint products and technologies: WSS and SPS. WSS provides the foundation for creating collaborative Web sites that support customization and personalization and SPS complements WSS by playing the role of a content aggregator. This article explains how.

How to upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010 after mistanely de

I need a detailed instruction on how to upgrade From Upgrading from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0  (SBS 2003 ) to SharePoint Foundation 2010.

    Background of the case:

I have all my databases (STS-database and STS_Config) saved but, I forgot to save my Virtual Site )Companyweb site) and I mistakenly re-installed IIS on the SBS 2003, hence  I lost the companyweb site. Is this an issue to migrate to Sharepoint foundation 2010. The Sharepoint foundation 2010 is running on a Microsoft HyperV Server 2008 R2
Also, I have created a Virtual 2003 SRV ENT with Sharepoint Services 3.0 running on it. I also have attached my Databases STS_Database and STS_Config)... how do I get it working like a regular website. I have modified the CNAME record to reflect the new server... http://companyweb - it take me to the new site but it loads a blank page. I did create a new CompanyWeb Virtual site on the VHD 2003 server.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your prompt response. Nelson
