SharePoint 2007 - SharePoint deleting files and libraries

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

There was a process that ran overnight that randomly deleted document libraries and directories within some document libraries thoughout our sharePoint Site.  I do not have any archive jobs running and there was not rhyme or reason to why some were deleted and others were not.  Most of the items deleted were moved to the second recycle bin or stie recycle bin - deleted from end user recycle bin but it was done with the SharePoint administrator account.  I have looked at the logs for anything out of the ordinary but this has never happened in the 3 years since SharePoint was installed.  I have restored the items that were located but others were deleted completely

This deletion of items went through 21 of my site collections but did not delete items from 18 other site collections.

We are running SharePoint 2007 version 12.0.0.6421, MS SQL 2005, NO CUSTOMIZATION straight out of the box installation, 32 bit, 2 WFE's - one running application and one running search, central admin

Any help would be appreciated.

Unable to export/copy documents out of SharePoint 2007 libraries

Hi, A client had an issue a few months ago where their MOSS 2007 home site collection had to be restored after a major crash, it now works but they have loads of issues with the restored site(no need to go into) now I am trying to migrate the Data (files and folders only, no security or metadata) to a SharePoint 2010 installation, the problem is that I am unable to get any of the files out of SharePoint. I decided against an upgrade or any form of site migration as I might only be taking the problems with me. i am just trying to copy the files using the "Library - Actions - Open with Windows Explorer". The Explorer view window opens but if i select a file and move it into a folder on the server nothing happens, If I select a folder with files and folders in it then only the root folder is copied over but it is empty.  i don't want to repair any of the issues with the old site as it's only wasting time, can anybody think of a way to get all of the data out of Sharepoint 2007, without taking any of the lists or libraries or any other Sharepoint settings. I only need to keep the folder structure and files within them as i don't need any metadata and am recreating the security again seperately on the new SharePoint setup. Anybody have any ideas or know of free/trial products that i

Moving metadata and files together to Sharepoint 2007

Hello, The question is related to data migration (created using ASP application). I have metadata stored in SQL server 2008 and for each record there are few documents which are stored in windows file system(not in SQL server). I want to move to the metadata and the associated files to a SharePoint list ( the document should be stored as attachment, i think). Could you please suggest me a method to achieve this result?

Sharepoint Designer 2007 Not showing files in windows 7.

We have some machines running Win7 Pro and SP2007 for general web editing. We are having a problem when we go to insert pictures or browse for a dynamic template, or anything using an insert command. What happens is it brings up the insert window and shows the folder structure but we are unable to see the files in the folders. We have tried compatibility mode and run as administrator options and have had no luck.... If anyone has any ideas id be glad to hear them.

Sharepoint 2007 delay in files are not showing up in document library

When saving a file from ie. an email attachment into a sharepoint document library the files show up in explorer view of the document library but there is about a 20 minutes delay before they show up in the default view of the document library.  This is quite frustrating as because you can not see it there the users try to save as again.

This seems to work correctly in our test sharepoint environment.  Does anyone have any ideas as where to start looking.

Thanks

Deleting SQL log files killed SharePoint installation

our E: drive was full, and we were told it was all log files (_log.ldf), and that we could delete them or most of them, so I did. Most of the log files were too big to put in the recycle bin, so they were permanently deleted.

Now I get this error message trying to run any site in SharePoint 2010:
Cannot open database "SharePoint_Config" requested by the login. The login failed.

Any ideas on how to get this site back up and running, without a backup?

How to use form libraries in Bi-Lingual site in sharepoint 2007?

Hi All,

I have developed a bi-lingual (English/Arabic) portal using variations in sharepoint 2007. I am facing issues with infopath form libraries. Since infopath form library is not a publishing feature, it is created only in source site (English site). I am displaying the form library on a page as a web part and then publish the same page to make same web part available in Arabic site. But when I go to add new form in infopath form library from Arabic site, it goes to English locale. Please guide me on how to use common form/document libraries in multilinugal sites. I appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks,

Rahul Babar

Error saving Office 2010 files opened from SharePoint Server 2007

I have recently started testing Office 2010 and have found only 1 major issue - I cannot save any Office 2010 files opened from a SharePoint Server 2007 location.  Upon save I receive an error message saying "Upload Failed. This file wan not uploaded because the specified path was not found on the server." and the file is captured in the Microsoft Upload Center.  Using the Upload Center action 'Open Web Site' opens the site without problem; however, a all subsequent resolve actions fail.  Any ideas?

Environment:

  * MS Windows Server 2003 R2
  * MS SQL Server 2008 R2
  *Office SharePoint Server 2007

Display files (where we dont have access to) in Search Results- Sharepoint 2007

Hi,

Is there a way in which we can make the sharepoint search result display- files where we dont have access to ?

The requirement is that-

There are many files stored in document libraries which are either "Shared" or "Confidential"

Now normally The Confidential documents are not displayed in the search result of sharepoint search. (Since access to those files are denied)

Is There a way in which we make these files appear in the search result ? However when the user clicks on the URL/Title of the file the "Access Denied Page" is displayed (If the user doesnt have access).

This is because we dont want the files (Which are declared confidential) to be re-created.

Sharepoint 2007-Maximum document libraries that can be added to Linked Data Source

I have a requirement as below:

1. I need to create a web part which allows users to filter the document library columns based on their needs.

2. There are around 10 document libraries with around 11,000 files and I linked them using Linked Data Source.

3. I tried to create a DVWP. It inserted all the records thought but I am not able to apply the Data View properties like 'Filter', 'Sort' and 'Group'.

Is there a limit to the number of records that can be added to a linked data source. If so how many?

Is there any other way we can do it?

How to redirect to EditForm.aspx form after uploaded multiple files in SharePoint 2007

Hi all,

In the document library of SP2007, when we uploaded a single file then it will redirect us to EditForm.aspx to allow us to add some metadata for properties. However, when we used to upload multiple files, it doesn't allow us to do that. I would like to redirect to EditForm.aspx after I uploaded multiple files to manipulate something such as changing Title of per file item before back to AllItems.aspx page view. Anyone know a solution to solve it please give me an advise.

Thank you very very much!

Working with SharePoint document libraries

Document libraries are collections of files that you can share with team members on a Web based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. For example, you can create a library of common documents for a project, and team members can use their Web browsers to find the files, read them, and make comments. Users with Microsoft Office 2003 can check out and edit the files as if they resided on a local or network drive.

By default, your team Web site comes with a built-in document library named Shared Documents, which is listed on the Quick Launch bar as well as on the Documents and Lists page.

SharePoint Tutorial - Libraries

A library is a feature in SharePoint that stores files (documents). Think of a library as a folder on your file system. For example, a library can be created to store resumes in the human resources team site. A library is usually created for a specific type of file. Libraries can contain metadata to describe the particular file in more detail and to make it easier to find.

Write Custom WebParts for SharePoint 2007

The popularity of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 led Microsoft to tightly integrate the next SharePoint version, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, with its ASP.NET 2.0 WebPart framework. This tight integration enables the ASP.NET and SharePoint developer to do a number of things that previously weren't possible
