SSIS on a fail-over cluster

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I recently upgraded to SQL 2008. I am working with a clustered environment. The installation on node1 worked out fine. However, SSIS did not install on node2, but everything else did. What would I need to do, to install SSIS on the second node? Is it as simple as re-running the installation and selecting repair, or should I run add/remove features?

Thank you for your time...

How to make SSIS Package Fail when something goes wrong

Hello, Is there any way I can make the package (SSIS 2005) fail when something happen? Like: if some value become zero I will to make the package fail from with in the SSIS, so that the AgentJOB  that started this package will know? Thanks, Prabhat Nath

Hosting WCF Services (NetTcp and WS-HTTP) on a windows MCSC fail over cluster

Hi I have a set of WCF Services that use the above protocols. How do i host these in a MCSC Cluster and expose them to the clients ? When hosting the service which is the IP i should use ? The Virtual IP of the Cluster ?

SSIS on Cluster also 2005 packages and 2008 db connections and jobs?

Hi, multipart questions.

We have a SQL 2008 Cluster where we do not want to install SSIS.  We have a SQL 2005 SSIS instance on another server  for packages.

here goes

1. Can we configure jobs on the SQL 2008 custer to point to the 2005 SSIS instance? and do we need SSIS installed on the SQL 2008 cluster to do this?

2. Can we run jobs on a SQL 2005 instance, pointing to a SQL 2005 SSIS instance/packages on a third server that connect to a SQL 2008 DB instance . I know that sounds crazy, but where exactly is the CPU and memory load in that design.. job on one server, package a seperate server and db on a third server.?

3. As mentioned, I have SQL 2005 SSIS instance.  I have local admin on that server and can connect to the ssis instance from my sql 2005 sql client on my desktop.  I added a new user to the server and added them to the SSIS and users group. I also made sure they could write to the folder where they will deploy packages. However, they get some kind of access denied while trying to connect, unless I give them local admin on the server.  What more access do they need than to be in the users and SSIS group and have write access to an SSIS deployment folders?

Many Thanks.

Savng SSIS package might fail with "Library not registered" after you install SQL Server 2005 SP2

sql 2005 cluster ssis not installed passive node

I am doing an SQL Server 2005 Cluster install. The install appeared to go
okay. On the active node everything installed fine. However, when we looked
at the other node only the configuration tools got installed. SQL Server
Management Studio did not get installed. Would anyone know what caused this
and how to install the SQL Server 2005 on a cluser correctly? I understand
that that the management tools only get installed on the primary node.
Should I run setup on the secondary node to install the tools?

I also went through the summary log for the install and  noticed that almost
everything that was installed on the active node was  also installed on the
passive node. The products that did not get installed  on the passive node

- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Integration Services
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Notification Services
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools

Should not these have been installed on the passive node as well?

Cluster Fail-over - Failed to bring secondary node online ??

Server : Windows server 2008

DB Server : SQL Server 2008 (SP1)

Here are the series of events which happened.

1.) Event ID: 1135

Cluster node 'XYZ' was removed from the active failover cluster membership. The Cluster service on this node may have stopped. This could also be due to the node having lost communication with other active nodes in the failover cluster. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapters on this node. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.

SQL Server 2005 cluster install with SSRS and SSIS - best approach for installs and migration?

I just installed SQLServer 2005 STD edition SP3 on an active/passive 2 node cluster, Intended to replace a SQLServer 2005 sp3 EE install (not clustered) that is in production now using SSIS and SSRS.  I would need to migrate the databases, reporting, and Integration Services over to the new server cluster.

1.    Does it make sense to run on a SQL Server 2005 on a cluster if SSIS and SSRS are not cluster aware? This is my 1st time adm

Database mirroring with multi instance fail over cluster

Hi Guys

I have a Question about setting up database mirroring on database. This database is on an instance on Active-Active fail over cluster. I want to make this instance as primary Server in Database mirroring.

Will it possible to mirror this database to unclustered server ? What would happen if there is fail over and the primary instance moves to the other node What would the effect on database mirroring ? Any ideas....

Execute PowerShell Script to get Cluster Information from SSIS - Am I crazy?

I created an few scripts that calls cmdlets that gets information from our clusters. The idea is to run the process once and get the information from our clusters into one single place. This is important after outage/patch weekends so we can check the state of our clusters in one single place.

I have never worked with PowerShell scripts before, and I'm doing this after getting inspired by some really clever folks I had the pleasure of seeing at SQL PASS.

I wanted to leverage SSIS so I can take advantage of the the ForEachLoop container and perform the same checks across my 13 clusters.

Have you guys done this before?
Am I on the right path?
Should I use WMI instead or PowerShell?
Any suggestions on how to execute PowerShell scripts from SSIS?
Any other suggestions?

RAISERROR does not cause OLE DB Source Task to fail in SSIS 2008?

I have a stored procedure with a TRY / CATCH block.  In the catch block I capture information about the error.  And then use RAISERROR to "rethrow" the exception so that it will be available to SSIS.

I notice that there is a defect reported which is about Execute SQL Task. "Execute SQL Task not signalling failure on a Raiserror." https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=276828&wa=wsignin1.0

It was fixed in SSIS 2008. But I found that RAISERROR still cannot fail a data flow source task. The stored procedure is executed in OLE DB Source task. The RAISERROR is justed omitted by OLE DB Source task and the task box turns green. But if there is any exception throw by system (eg. 1/0), it would fail the task.

Here are the two stored procedures I tried.

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[GenerateErrorA]
  Select 1/0 AS A
  RAISERROR('Error Raised', 16, 1)

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[GenerateErrorB]
 Select 1/0 AS A

Only stored proce

SSIS problem on sql server 2005 cluster

I have asked one question about the ssis service on sqlserver 2005 cluster.

the content is as belowing:

i installed ssis service on each node, and modify the ssis configuration file on each node also.
here is two format, but i don't know which one is right.\

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<DtsServiceConfiguration xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">

Using Conditional Split data Transfer in SSIS 2008

This article uses the Integration Services Conditional Split Data Transformation element to filter and transfer data from a set of flat text files to SQL Server database table. The concept can be easily extended to apply to any other source or destination such as Microsoft Excel. This scenario is useful in creating denormalized database tables in a reporting and analysis situation.

URL Rewrite causes AppSettings to Fail?

Hi there,

I just implemented basic URL rewriting to change a page from, for example, /member.aspx?id=123 to /member.aspx/erik.  That works and I'm happy with it.  However, I am now getting an error message that states "the connectionstring property has not been initialized".  Normally, I've been storing the connectionstring in web.config, and I access it with:

Dim Connect As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection
Dim ConnectString As String
ConnectString = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("linktomysite")
Connect.ConnectionString = ConnectString

This is what I do on every other page of the site and it works fine.  The only way it will work on the page where I'm URL re-writing, however, is if I replace "ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("linktomysite")" with the actual connection string itself.  For security reasons, obviously I would prefer to keep that info out of the page.  What can I do?
