Creating custom ranking model for Extended sharepoint search

Howdy coders,

I am new to sharepoint search and i am trying to customize sharepoint search for my application using FullTextSqlQuery OM. i am able to fetch the results.i want to add  custom ranking model based on some managed properties which are added to the sharepoint list and document libraries. The search results page which i am designing should display the results based on users context, if the user is on first page then the search results relevant to first page should appear at the top of the search page. if the user trigger search from second page then the search results relevant to second page should display on top.

To achieve this i want to implement a custom ranking model, can any body help me with the steps for implementing a custom ranking model with some custom managed meta data properties

Thanks in advance.

Remote Debugging error while creating business data connectivity model

Hi Everyone,

I have a scenario where I have to get the data from two of the stored proc's in the SQL Server and create an assocation between those models.I cannot use Sharepoint designer as there is no relationship existing between those two entities. So,I have used visual studio business data connectivity model to fulfill this requirement.I created the model with filter descriptors, input parameters and all and related those as suggested by MSDN and used LINQ to SQL to pull the actual stored procedure into the readlist and readitem methods. My issue here is,when I debug this project,I am receiving an error message tht says "remote procedure cannot be debugged.this usually indicates debugging hasn't been enabled".Then I changed the debug entry in the web.config to true to solve this issue. But,still I received the same error...what do you think might be stopping me from going ahead..ur suggestions and tips helps me a lot..

Thanks all..

Is there a way of creating an Ado.Net Entity Data Model filtered on a Session variables (C#)

I'm trying to customize correct displaying of dropdownlists so information shown in comboboxes is relevant to the kind of user logged on (maintaining referential integrity at data level)

e.g.: I have a user already logged on and depending on his profile I'd like to display to this user only the portion of the database that he would be allowed to see. That would mean that he might have acces to an specific subset of data, e.g.: businesstype = "3", loging level = "2", etc.

Is there a way of creating an Ado.Net Entity Data Model filtered on a Session variables as to maintain proper referential integrity at data level? So it means that the filtering must apply to all entities contained in the .edmx model at once.

Best solution for reporting OLTP/OLAP?

I am not sure if this is the correct place for this question. We have a reporting requirement. The OLTP database is SQL Server 2008R2. Number of reports required is 6 and not sure about the number of users to provide access. On an average 20k records are added per day.  Now as the number of reports is just 6, is it worth to create a multi dimensional database (OLAP)? Are there any OLTP reporting tools ? Any help would be appreciated.

Creating your SharePoint Governance Plan

One of the most common questions that I get from prospects as I'm talking to them about the creation of a governance plan and process is what does it look like. In other words, there are materials available which describe what should be in a governance plan but there isn't a ton of guidance on what the process of creating a governance plan and process are.

Creating Paging for a Repeater Control

A common question is "How do I implement paging within a Repeater?" Although the beauty of the Repeater control is its flexibility, you're on your own for building most functions. ASP.NET 2.0 has included some new controls that provide paging, as does the DataGrid in ASP.NET 1.1. However, this tip shows you how to roll your own paging for a simple data viewer.

Creating an AJAX Repeater in ASP.NET MVC

The "TaskList" is a tried an true example of the most basic thing that you can do in any framework. Unfortunately, I had some problems finding a really good example of all the steps necessary to get a task list to work in ASP.NET MVC 1.0.

Creating a Generic Entity Framework 4.0 Repository

With .NET 4.0 right around the corner, I thought it would be cool to download Visual Studio 2010 beta 2 and start playing around with the next release of Entity Framework.

The initial release of Entity Framework came with a great deal of criticism. To make matters worse, there was a large uproar when it was rumored that Microsoft would be abandoning LINQ to SQL, in favor of Entity Framework. This was because, at the time, many developers felt Entity Framework was an inferior technology to LINQ to SQL. To set things right, Microsoft proactively moved forward with improving Entity Framework, in time for the 4.0 release of the .NET Framework. This is good news because my initial impressions, so far, have been nothing but positive.
