Multiple Copies for Same Record

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

My records have a field 'count'. Let's say I have

rec1: count=1
rec2: count=2

Currently, when generating a report each record will generate one page, i.e. 2 pages for the above. However, for each record I want to create as many identical pages as indicated by count. So in the above example I would get three pages of which two are identical (for rec2). Well, identical except for the page count which also needs to be on each page, i.e. page 1 of 3, page 2 of 3, page 3 of 3. How do I achieve this?

Insert Same Record Multiple Times.

I have a simple form that inserts a record into a SQL table. The fields are: SerialNumTagNumPONumLocationAddressDescription   This works great. However, I have now been asked to have the form insert x number of records at one time. They want to be able to fill out the following fields: PONumLocationAddressDescription and then have texbox where they can add a number and have that number of the same record inserted.    I hope this makes sense.

Caching multiple copies of a page

Hi Guys, I have  an aspx page that retrieves and processes an image based on a  query string. The whole operation takes about 2-3 seconds.  However as the nature of the images means they are quite static,a 5 min (or even 5 hour) delay in picking up an updated image is acceptable. Because of this delay I would like to cache the response and only do a proper refresh only periodically. I have added the following to the top of my aspx page.  <%@ OutputCache Location="Any" Duration="600" VaryByParam="*" %> Only the last request appears to be cached - i.e. f  I navigate to ../DisplayImage?ImageId=1Then the page is loaded and Image 1 displayed - subsequent requests are cached. If I navigate to ../DisplayImage?ImageId=2 subsequent requests are cached. However if I go image 1, image 2, image 1 then no caching occurs. I'm wondering if i'm missing something obvious or does IIS7 / ASP.NET just not support this type of caching.Any help would be greatly apreciated.Malachy

How to save a multiple user control to a few single record text?

I have a list with people pecker control that admits multiple users.
I like to have another list with one record for each user in the control that loaded before.
Is there any way in InfoPath or in a workflow to use something like FOR EACH to take one by one user in a control and write/update records after that?
Thank in advance

How to create a View to return all multiple child fields in one record?

Hello
I have an application where the users can define up to 5 extra fields for a particular table (e.g. tblMaster). The custom data is all held in one table (e.g. tblCustom) so there could be up to 5 records in tblCustom for each tblMaster record. In my application I build a select statement based on the number of custom fields so that I can get a single row of data for each tblMaster record (sample below). I am now adding new features to the application and I want to expose an SQL View to the users for a report writer that will achieve the same result but still cater for the variable number of custom fields. I realise this needs to use probably a RIGHT OUTER JOIN so that NULL is returned if there is no matching field but I can't work it out. If I had five separate files it would be easy as each one would be a RIGHT OUTER JOIN for each. I could build 6 views (e.g. with no custom fields, with one custom field, with two custom fields etc) but that is not very efficient. I don't particulaly want to restructure the database as there would be a lot of work and retesting.
Any help would be very welcome!

SSIS - load table from source text file with multiple record lengths

I have a text file that has mulitple records lengths that I need to load into a table.  The file has multiple record types and each record type detemines the length of the record.  Let me try to explain...the file has a balance line 1, multiple detail records, balance line 2, and a trailer record.

The first record is a balance line 1, which has a record length of 144.

Detail records with a record type of inv or crd, will have a record length of 147.  The remaining record types will have a length of 144.

The second to the last record is balance line 2, which has a a record length of 156.

And the trailer record, which has a record length of 162.

Here is a portion of my source file.  I have made each line bold where you can see the rec type.  The record starting with 9999 is the trailer.

cannot print multiple copies of a report using PCL6 driver

I have one particular SSRS2008 report that always prints just one copy even when tell it to print multiple copies after clicking the print button in the RSClientPrint control.  After some troubleshooting, I discovered that this report is able to print multiple copies when it is printed using a PCL5 print driver, but not with a PCL6 print driver.  Other reports are able to print multiple copies using the PCL6 driver.

All of the impacted machines are using the same HP Color LaserJet 2840 PCL6 print driver, though the same problem seems to occur with the drivers for at least a couple other HP LaserJet printers (i.e. it seems to work on any PCL5 driver and not on any PCL6 driver).  However, I've got about a hundred machines that are impacted by this, so simply switching to the PCL5 driver would not be my preferred solution, as I don't know what other impacts that may have on the systems - and it just doesn't seem like the "correct" solution, since all our other reports work just fine with the PCL6 driver.  I'm not very familiar with how the report was built, as I just support the OS and drivers, etc.  But does anyone have any suggestions for what might be wrong with this particular report, that I can pass on to the guy that built it?

Thanks in advance!

Cannot insert new record into multiple tables thru. sql 2005 View

I have a sql server 2005 database containing several tables: Orders, Shipping, and Planning.  They are joined together in the sql view V_Main.  I also have a ms access 2007 mdb that links to V_Main via odbc.  I created an access form using the view V_Main as the record source.  I cannot insert a new record into each of the 3 base tables using V_Main as the record source.  A new record is inserted into only one table.
I did find a suggestion in another forum that suggested copying the sql that creates the view into the record source, rather than the name of the view.  This does work, but adds another place to be updated manually should and other table be added to the view in the future.
I did verify that all tables have primary keys.
How can I add a new record for each of the 3 base tables using the view as the record source?  What is the code that could be placed in vb of the form?
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you.

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

I have also explained how to check for file type, file maximum size limit using jQuery & also using server side validation code.

GridView inline Master/Detail record display

This code drop is part of a smash and grab series. If you're in a rush, you can just grab this code and insert it into your application, no understanding is required. When you have some time (ya, right) you may want to review the source code.

Multiple Column Dropdownlist for the ASP.NET DataGrid

Based on my previous control "Multiple Column DropDownList for ASP.NET", I received many emails asking for the same control to be used in the DataGrid for web applications. Here we go.. This control can be used as the regular MS DropDownList in the DataGrid and also as a regular dropdownlist. It has all the properties, like DataTextField, DataValueField, DataSource, SelectedIndex etc. The download file contains the samples both in VB.NET and C#. In this sample, I have used the Northwind database of SQL Server.

ASP.NET Multiple Selection DropDownList with AJAX HoverMenuExtender

Recently, I was looking for a multiple selection dropdownlist control for my new project. After spending some time researching for it, I decided to put together all my finding in one web user control. This web user control consists of an ASP.NET AJAX HoverMenuExtender, JavaScript, StyleSheet and CheckBoxListExCtrl . The final product will work with or without a MasterPage and you can drag and drop more than one instances of the control on to the page.
