Reports are not showing on management studio for SQL 2008 reporting services

I just did the side by side upgrade for reproting server from 2005 to 2008 and everything was fine. But when I login to the reporting server from management studio I am not able to see the report server folders like we do in SQL 2005. The only think i saw is jobs, security and shared schedules. I dont even see any jobs under this jobs folder. Do i need to do anything after the upgrade to be able to see the reports, subscriptions and data sources from the management studio? please let me know. Thanks!  kp

Reporting Services Reports Migration

Hi , Apart from the RSScripter is there any plans from microsoft to release a tool in the future which can be used to deploy reports/security etc from one report to another. This will be very useful for administration purposes. I believe BO also has a similar tool probably named as Life cycle manager.   Regards, Vikram

Convert from Number to Text- Exporting to Excel from SQL Reporting services 2000

I was trying to export a report which contains a number format. When I do that, all the numbers in excel will have a green small tag beside it saying "Convert from Number to Text". Is there anyway that I can change the format to a number when I export it to excel?

Integrating CSS with Reporting Services Reports?

Is it possible to deliver a reporting services report (built against an OLAP cube that was built off of a Dynamics AX 2009 database) using a web front end that will care about cascading style sheets? Our customers have individual web portals with their own look and feel and we want to emulate that with our OLAP reporting as well, which will be delivered through these same portals. I want to make the reports look and feel like the rest of the website, i.e., color schemes, company logo images, and other artifact like buttons so everything looks tightly integrated. The plan is to pass a URL to logo images and use an expression to resolve header logos. I’d like to do something similar with cascading style sheets to drive the report’s color scheme. Is that possible? These reports will never be accessed through the Report Manager, only by our web front end, so I’m not bound by reporting services internal style sheets (or am I?) I ran a sample report and viewed the source and it looks like a style tag is generated within the report HTML. Can I leverage that somehow perhaps?

Error while Rendering Reports(Reporting Services 2005) in .Net 1.1 web Application on IIS 6.0

I developed an ASP.net 1.1 web application that is written in VS2203 and I am using Reporting Services 2005 to render some reports in PDF Format. My problem was it is working fine in local (XP) and Production environment (Windows 2003 Server).fromo long back the solution was not working for my integration Server which has windows 2003 Server (1.1) and we installed the 2.0,3.5 frameworks. It is throwing an Object refernce error while render the report. Is there any permisions or  something missing.

I have wasted so much time in a finding a solution and I appreciate any help in that.

Merging Multiple Excel files (exports from Reporting Services)

So we have Office 2007 on our system and I'm trying to use Excel Interop to take a number of Excel files, which are exports from Reporting Services, and combine them into one large workbook.  I'm using the code below which works fine to get all the information from all the files into one workbook but the colors of things goes absolutely haywire.  Anyone know why my colors are getting all out of wack?

protected void MergeFiles(string destinationFile, string[] sourceFiles, string guid)
                //1. Validate folder,
                //2. Instantiate excel object
                //3. Loop through the files
                //4. Add sheets
                //5. Save and enjoy!

Reporting Services - Missing Data on Reports

I have a report that uses 3 different datasets to populate different parts of the RDL file.  All datasets are set up to use the same credentials.  The report is usually run via the Data Driven Subscriptions.

When you run the report manually for an individual site, all data on the report is populated and the report exports to PDF as expected.  However, when you run the report via the subscription in report Manager, only part of the data is actually populated.

Looking more closely, it only seems to be running one of the datasets.

I don't think this is a permissions or security issue as if it was, no data would be returned at all.

Any ideas please?

Thank you.

Rendering Reports in Reporting Services 2008 in Sharepoint Integrated Mode

I have created a site collection using the Report Center template. I successfully deployed my VS2008 Reporting Servivces project to the Sharepoint site. However, when I goto the reports library and attempt to run a report I get "unknown error" message"

Also, I can create a dashboard consisting of one of my reports. However, when I attempt to view the reports via the dashboard, I get the following error message:

An error occurred during client rendering.

The target location you specified is not supported by the report server. A report definition (.rdl), report model (.smdl), resource, or shared data source (.rsds) file must be located within a library or a folder within it.

symmetric key protected by a password

An alternative could be using a symmetric key protected by a password, as long as your application generates the CREATE SYMMETRIC KEY and OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY statements directly instead of calling them inside a SP (otherwise the password will still be passed as a parameter, and will be in clear in the profiler).

Integrate Reporting Services with Silverlight and RIA Services

One of the most wanted future features in Silverlight is the possibility to create business reports using Reporting Services. In this article, I will show how to use the existing Reporting Services technology with Silverlight and RIA Services combination.

Reporting Services SQL 2005 .Net 4 compatibility?

I've been working on my first asp.net application and for the most part it's been pretty smooth.  Right now I'm having trouble getting reporting services working under SQL Server 2005.  I developed the site with Visual Studio 2010 and didn't think about any of the .Net 4.0 compatibility issues that have arisen.  I'm having no problems with the site communicating with SQL Server 2005 for the regular database stuff.  The only problem I'm having is with setting up Reporting Services.  I have the .Net 4.0 framework installed on the server, however Reporting Services is still using 2.x.  I'm not sure if this is a problem with SSRS or with IIS.  When i go to localhost/Reports it's reading my web.config for my application and throwing an error: "Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'."  This is referring to a line in my web.config where targetFramework is set to 4.0.

Software that I'm using:

  • Visual Studio 2010
  • SQL Server 2005 Standard
  • IIS 7.0
  • .Net 4.0

Any suggestions?
