Design question in Report Manager?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
When you view/launch a report by clicking on it in Report Manager you get a "double arrow" on the right side of the window with the help text "Full screen". If you push that button the top area with links to for example "Site settings" disapears. Is there any way to make that the default setting when you view a report?

I cant find anything about this in my books, can anyone help me?

Make dynamic changes to ReportViewer Report design InteractiveSize property

Hello all,

Could someone share with me how to dynamically change the Report design InteractiveSize property?  I want to use a radiobutton list which has two options (complete list, paginated list) which changes the height of the Report display.  I wonder if I need to use the Report Parameters but how do I change and refresh to display the selected option.  Thank you.

How to diable the scrool bar on reports in Report Manager

I need a workflow triggered by a workflow...how do I design this? Beginner question

I've added the Approval workflow to a forms library and it generates the necessary tasks and emails for 2 levels (serial) of Approval on the form. When the form has been approved the 2nd time, I want it to trigger another workflow that notifies a 3rd person of the existence of the form and assigns her a separate non-approval task. I'm creating it in SharePoint Designer, and I can do most of it, but I'm not sure what field I'm looking for, at the beginning in order to start the workflow. Currently, there is no column for Approval Status in the form library, only a column that shows the status of the workflow (In Progress or Approved).  I tried If Workflow Status equals Approved then email.... but that didn't work. Any help is greatly appreciated.  I'm looking for the data source field and the list item field and value, I guess.

SSRS 2008 Custom Authentication works when using ReportServer url but not when report manager url is

Hi, I am using SSRS 2008 with Custom security extension for authentication. The extension is developed in c#. I have placed the dll under report server bin and report manager bin directory and the logon, login pages under appropriate directory. My reports manager url is http://localhost:port/Reports and my reports server url is http://localhost:port/ReportServer. When I try to login through reports manager url, I am getting 'login failed' error message from the dll. But when I try to login using reports server url, it works. I have also set 'FullTrust' named permission set in RSMgrPolicy.config . <CodeGroup class="FirstMatchCodeGroup" version="1" PermissionSetName="FullTrust" Description="This code group grants MyComputer code Execution permission. "> < IMembershipCondition class = " ZoneMembershipCondition " version = " 1 " Zone = " MyComputer " /> Any suggestions please!   Thanks!

multiple instances of report manager VS multiple users

Hello, I want multiple users to access same report or different reports through report manager for a report server. Will the scenario of opening multiple windows of report manager on same machine and execute reports from all windows simultaneously mean same as multiple users accessing the reports at the same time? If not, then how should I generate the scenario of multiple users? Regards.

Permission Errors for Users on Home Page only of SQL Server Reporting Services Report Manager

I have spent days now investigating this problem, so any help very much appreciated! I have a remote web server 2003 running SQL Server R2 Express Edition with Reporting Services installed. I use Report Builder 3.0 locally to build report. If I login via Internet to Report Manager Web Page as an administrator I can perform all the expected and required actions, creating new folders and assigning permissions for users etc. I have added a new user "ReportUser" as a Browser of a child folder. If ReportUser longs on to home page, he receives the all too familiar error: User 'XXXXXXXX\reportuser' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed. However, if the user starts at the child folder of home page, and then logs in, he sees the expected page, and can run the report!  This is not very satisfactory. How can I allow user to see home page, without an error message, but not be allowed to click on any folders to which he is not entitled? I am now aware that SQL Server R2 Express Edition has many limitations compared with full Editions (fixed roles, cannot manage Report Service from Management Studio etc) , and many of the "solutions" offered on the web just do not apply.   John Walton

Don't see tab and toolbar of the report manager application after installing sql server reporting s

Hello everyone: I have tried to install and configure Reporting Service. I found lots of  errors along the way. The first one was an error (500.23) from IIS7. I applied the suggested solution on the IIS screen which was migrating configuration using AppCmd ( %SystemRoot%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd migrate config "Default Web Site/"). Next problem was  : Request is not available in this context Stack Trace: [HttpException (0x80004005): Request is not available in this context] System.Web.HttpContext.get_Request() +3465893 Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI.Global.get_ConfigurationManager() +47 Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI.GlobalApp.Application_Start(Object sender, EventArgs e) +32  This error was caused by the fact that Report Server and Report Manager were configured to DefaultAppPool in the Reporting Service Configuration Manager. I have switched to Classic .Net AppPool  for both Report Server and Report Manager and it has fixed the problem. Now my problem is that the Report Manager Application ( http://localhost/reports/folders.aspx ) shows no tab, toolbar or folder. What I now have on the Report Manage Application page is the header with the title and [home] and [Help] button links on the top right corner. I have made a report to test the problem but no folder shows o

WCF and Entity Framework Design question

Should we be using Entity Framework entities as data contracts across the WCF Layer? If yes when why have the POCO support and code only been added to the Entity Framework? I was assuming it was with the purpose to remove the dependancy that the client will have on the database if the client depends on the Entities. If No, then does that mean we need to create Business Objects for each entity that exists in the entity framework model? Please advise. Thanks.Nilotpal

SQL 2008 External access returns wrong address for Report Manager

Hello, I have problems with the external access for report server. My report server is running in a local server on port 80, which can be accessed through http://servername/reports I have set up external access to the report server through http://servername.domain.com:8081/reports , so I set up a redirection from public port 8081 to port 80 on the local server. When I write the address http://servername.domain.com:8081/reports in a browser, I get asked for user authentication(Windows domain user), which is accepted, but after that I get an error because the URL automatically changes to http://servername.domain.com/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx (without the port 8081) If I write http://servername.domain.com:8081/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx , it works. I can see the report manager home page and browse through my reports. But there are some links in the page that are built improperly, since they still point to the wrong URL (without port 8081). These are e.g. the Help link, the Report Builder link, the Details view link.  So I think there is something wrong with the response the report server sends, when I write ".../Reports" and returns ".../Reports/Pages/Folders.aspx" I haven't found any configuration file or property where this response is specified, neither where the report

SSRS 2008 - report manager: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server

I have an instance of Reporting Services 2008 running on Windows 2003 server.  So, the webservice URL is running on port 801, and runs fine (I can browse reports from that directory, and upload / deploy new reports and overwrite existing reports. Report manager is set to use port 800 (IIS is also on that machine running port 80).  When I attempt to connect to report manager, I get the following error, with a link to "Home" in report manager (which brings me back to the existing error page):    Unable to connect to the remote server  In the logfiles for reporting services, the following error is there: " System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.   Any ideas? Windows Firewall is NOT running on this machine.   Thanks, Chrisrjp

User does not have required permissions to view Report Manager on SQL 2008 r2

Hi all, We are installing SQL Server 2008 r2 onto a server, and this installation includes Reporting Services. SSRS works, I can deploy reports, use Report Manager, Report Builder, etc., all using my admin privs. The problem is when NON-ADMIN users connect to \\server\reports.  They get the following error: User 'DOMAIN\user' does not have required permissions.  Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed. This error is resolved by giving the DOMAIN\user account local admin privs on the server. Granting admin privs is not a solution.  We have accountants and other non-technical people that will use Report Manager and Report Builder.  We can't just give every person admin privs on the production SQL server. I have done a lot of research on the web... I see a results involving earlier versions of SQL Server and Report Manager, but this is 2008 r2 - different webserver, etc. How can I resolve this issue?

Advanced HTML Report Design

Aside from using Reporting Services an such - I was wondering if there were any suggestions to this logic: * ASP.NET Repeaters to generate the output of the report - sortable columns. * Use SQL Stored Procedures to generate the data. My painful hurdle right now is sorting (eventually implement throttling with SQL paging). I really don't want to do stored procedure sorting nor do I want to call the stored procedure every time I want to sort. So my solutions I've came up with so far: 1. Store a datatable in session and do sorting on it and bind it to the repeater. 2. Store the datatable as xml form in a blob field in SQL database - when the user sorts, we retrive the xml, convert to datatable, then sort, rebind repeater. 3. Insert all the report data into a "temp" (a more permenant table used just for storing output) sql table, and just perform queries off of it with sorting. - I really don't like this option. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Is it the norm out there to use reporting services? I'm wondering what everyone else is doing when it comes to web based reporting without licensing other products. Thanks in advance,Reece
